It's fixed, Barry said it was and also that the new boot loader was not required. Both correct so he does know more than a Humax employee. What's the point of this ?
I was only stating that Bob_Cat has always said a bootloader update would be required (not might). The fact it does not was either a genuine error (i.e. Bob_Cat got his facts wrong) or they found a better (still correct) way of fixing it that did not require an update to the boot loader or they fudged it. Regardless of which way they did it as long as it works and doesn't cause any problems elsewhere then we shouldn't really care

If you gave me two statements and said that one statement was from the Chief Technologist at Humax (i.e. Bob_Cat) and the other one was from a non-employee who knows the Humax management (i.e. Barry) I would tend to believe the Chief Technologist statement would be more accurate. In this case it was not and I accept that.

Bear in mind that Bob-Cat's opinion was probably made before the software engineers had even looked at the problem, whereas Barry's factual statement was made after the work was complete. Wonderful tool - hindsight.

Wow. I just popped out for a paper, come back and the toys are all over the floor!

It's true that I was (am still) ignorant of some of the history here, and I had no intention of offending anyone, just offering a view. But I'd imagine that any forum will involve people with various levels of knowledge, rather than simply those with all the facts and those with none. I'm here because I want to learn, and because my view or experience may at some point contribute something useful / help someone else.

The standpoint I'm coming from is that H have made a great product, and a complete pig's ear of things like the manual, communication with customers, and specifically here, correcting faults that shouldn't have been there at launch. Some slightly more organised mfrs would take note of user feedback, hell, they might even notice the faults themselves in the first month or two, assuming they use their own products. They would be concerned about the effect of word of mouth on new sales and about repeat sales to existing customers. They might even feel obliged to correct unarguable faults anyway.

What they would be quite unlikely to do would be to start feeding info out about what they might be doing (or might not) via the back door. What on earth does that achieve, apart from driving an amount of posting on this forum and others? It doesn't help owners - most just want to know that a fix has been made. Beta testing is very valid, of course, but it needs to be clearly announced, organised and monitored. Can we say that about this performance, the way it emerged, the confusion over the loader, the feedback form that neither covers or even explains what all the mods are? Surely no, on each count.

That's how I see the 'real situation' and why I certainly wasn't commenting in "absolute ignorance." I'd politely ask who here does really understand why the delays, why the promises, why the hints? If anyone can explain this clearly, without referring to hints or suggestions from B, B or anyone else, but purely with facts, please . . . go ahead.

So the Sony has "Live pause" and the Humax has "Live rewind"
Right and I'm guessing then, that the Sony implemented its version of "Pause" before the Freeview+** spec was firmed up... ('cause it never actually sported an official "Freeview+" sticker..)

** I also believe that the official Freeview+ spec requires it to be of the form of "Live Rewind" or am I wrong? Whilst I am at it, does anyone know what the official Freesat+ spec is or can point me to it?

Ouch thats a bit harsh. In the "Hummy.org is back" thread (in the announcements section over on Hummy) Mike explains the problems he has had and he asks that if you feel the need to slag him off then please do it on his own site.
I don't think it's harsh, I believe it's factual. If you were a regular visitor to the site I think you would realize that Mike was very much the 'absent landlord' long before the time he had his 'problems'. Barry and the other admins there 'were' hummy.org.uk. Mike contributed absolutely nothing during the year+ I was a member there. Barry, and the other admins tried their utmost to communicate with him only to get zero response. They were more than willing to take on the responsibilities of administering the site, and for Mike to accuse them later of wanting more 'power' was a travesty. They went the extra mile to try and provide the support that was needed and were completely ignored. Little wonder they were aggrieved. I have every sympathy for Mike and his more recent problems, but to try and blame it all on that is a twist on the facts in order to gain sympathy, and it's not being fair on those who's only motive was to provide for the members there.

That's nice. I assume he'll resume posting in these forums as and when.

Bob is back in the Humax fold]
Lurking far more than posting I have been impressed with Bob's expertise and ability to explain at the required level. His knowledge and insight into both platform and major manufacturer's practices were a welcome addition to this, and other fora. Hopefully this will continue.

Proper job, Bob!

@Bob_cat, Could you get the remaining bugs fixed for the HDR now you are back please?
Subtitles on live pause,
long delay after pressing guide,
live playback ending when scheduled record ends
Recording from buffer to the start of the current programme

Forget playing with future products like youview, you do not have anything else on the market at the moment, please consider one last release to keep your customers happy.
