This is the second time this week i've had to charge my phone because anderoid has been using up the battery life.

Is there a way to stop the battery life going so quickly?

Android is an OS used on a lot of phones, we need more info like what phone you actually have before anyone can suggest anything

I have the Samsung Galaxy Apollo. I do use the webnwalk browser as i have unlimited internet and i do often check my emails on my phone but apart from that, i don't play many games on there or anything like that.

I don't know of the phone myself but I suggest you make sure wifi/bluetooth is turned off. Also make sure that the phone isn't checking for email often, I have mine set to every hour.

Can I ask, on a full charge how long into the day does it get too?

I have an Android phone and its a pain in the backside because I have to charge every 36 hours.

However if you download the Advanced Task Killer from the Android market then it helps.

Smartphones use a lot of battery, so I charge my phone overnight.
Compared with CPUs and RAM/ROM, battery technology has not changed a great deal. You just have to get used to a shorter recharge cycle.

It's funny you say that as I was speaking to someone the other day saying the same thing. Phones are getting more powerful yet there doesn't seem to be as much advancement with the batteries sadly.

If someone were to release a decent spec phone with a battery that could last 48 hours under a fair amount of usage it would be a major seller.

Personally the battery issue on most new phones doesn't bother me.

I mean i just stick it on charge when i go to bed. Don't see why charging it daily is an issue.

Why dont you just look at the battery settings on the phone and see what is using up all your battery

Me too and I agree. But it would be nice if I could use my phone throughout the day doing various tasks without the fear of the battery draining quickly.

Plus I just seen that the OP said he has charged it twice this week, I read it quickly and thought he meant he has changed his phone twice this week.

If that is the case, OP there is nothing wrong with your phone that's normal for all smartphones.

I have a HTC Wildfire. I love it as phone but the battery life is absolutely shocking. It has to be charged every night and on heavy use it won't survive the day.

I have a BB Torch as my work phone. That gets heavy use too but I find I only have to charge it every 3 days or so. The big difference on BB is that you can set it to automatically shutdown overnight.

No it doesn't. Don't use a task killer.

I'm intrigued, why? I use the ATK to close stuff I don't want running in the background, therefore stopping them from eating more battery life. I've had my HTC Hero since Nov 09 and ATK makes a difference.

Also, turn off mobile internet/wifi when you don't need them and put the screen brightness on auto or a low setting as that can rinse the battery, too...

I am not so sure about that. The size and weight of the battery would play a big part. I think making a battery big enough to last 48 hours would make it too big and heavy.

I dont see a problem with charging every night. Its what I do. If your going to have a smartphone, then you had better get used to charging every night.

I have a Desire HD, with a MIUI rom, with a battery fix in it. Last night I got a 14% drain on battery over a 9hr period. The phone was in standby all this time, with the wifi being activated every 30mins for updates (via juice defender). Thats not bad going. Other people have commented they get around a 1% drain per hour.

Agree with this, task killers are a big no no on android phones. The OS is clever enough to manage its resources.

That might be right after Android 2.1, when better task management was implemented, but on earlier versions everyone promoted the use of task managers as necessary. I'm only going off what I've read on guides and from programmers/users, though.

EDIT: hmm, just read this; http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...98#post6426198 might give it a go...

Yep your right, you may need them on pre 2.1. Since I am on 2.2, I think everyone is.

You are missing the point which is the lack of development around battery technology. Red arrow was alluding to my post about the development of batteries compared with the advancement of the actual sw/hw of the phones.
If a technological leap could be made, then whoever had the best battery life would likely get the market share.

Only on 2.1 here, not sure Orange have done a 2.2 update for the Hero. Ditching ATK for Watchdog, though, to see how it goes...
