Hi,
I just recorded 1 hour of tv on my
panasonic dvd recorder
I used an RW disc.

At the end i hit the eject disc,
I saw a notice about finalize disc, but
anyway the disc ejected.

Realized I want to finalize to play on another dvd

Put the disc back in but cant find the finalize option, all I can see is the format option

Have I messed up big time here ?
Have you got to finalize before ejecting or you lose the option ?

Try this
Insert disc press stop, press functions button should bring up 2 options,(1.name the disc 2. finalize the disc.)Press enter on finalize.
It will say it will only be available for playback hit ok.
Thats it finalizing should take approx 5 minutes and full playback be available.

thanks for the tip, boysteve, but no, that did nt do it.

Finally solved it though, I knew there were a few mins left on the disc so I recorded again for about 10 seconds.

At end of the recording it said...
create a top menu for playback in other machines.

so I went to the top menu...
hit a couple of numbers and
it said
create top menu this will take 3 mins.

At the end I took the disc to another dvd player and bingo , it worked !
finally got there

Moral of the story.... finalize the dvd RW at the end of recording when the finalize option comes up.

You can finalize the RW disc but later you can re- format the disc and use it to record again !

xxtimbo, your model is probably the DMR-EH60DEB (or of that range) and is about 5 or 6 years old? I know on the Panasonics of the last couple of years the 'finalising' is done automatically. Saves a bit of farting around, I guess.

YOU D think in that DVD management there would
be a "finalize " option
instead of confusing everyone with this top menu jargon !

anyway, panic over....... I finally did it !

I thought RW discs did not need to be finalised? It is a non sequiter.

-RW discs need to be finalised to be playable on other players (with the exception of a few Pioneer players and one or two others).

+RW discs are not supposed to require finalisation, and in most cases don't, to be playable on compatible players. But, some players will not actually play a +RW disc recorded on another machine without finalising either, even though playing an unfinalised +RW is supposed to be part of their spec.
