Hey guys just wondering whats the best solution for my problem. I've had the iPhone since november and everything seemed OK however about a month in I noticed on a rare occasion that the speaker would crackle really loudly out of the blue and last about 2 seconds. However I have noticed it's gotten worse over the past 2 weeks, whenever I record a video the crackling is constant, when I answer phone calls its on in the background and the only way to stop it is to tap the back of the phone hard. Obviously it's a speaker issue.

However do I take it into 3 and say there is problems or do I take it to an Apple store? I didn't take any insurance out so am not covered that way. But it's not really something that I've damaged anyway and it's never been dropped or anything.

I'm a bit confused as to what to do or how much its gonna cost to fix.

Make a genius bar appointment with your nearest apple store, using this link

http://www.apple.com/uk/retail/geniusbar/

They will generally replace your handset there and then

IIRC they don't do physical repairs in store.

Was it a result of an accident/are obvious signs of damage on the phone.

If so, they will send it off to repair, elsewhere with an estimate cost of repair.

If it is a hardware fault, they normally swap it there and then.

Hi, thanks for the reply, no accident I took the phone out if my pocket today and wondered why it felt different then when I looked at it I noticed the little clear round lens cover missing. It's a pity they don't repair instore as I don't want the phone sending away for just that little cover?!

It won't hurt to ask Apple. They might sort it out for you if the phone doesn't look otherwise damaged.

Alternatively the lens cover is only a few quid on Ebay. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CAMERA-MODULE-...62d752ffdcdad8

Chances are if it's still in warranty (which is must be) and they agree it wasn't caused by accidental damage, they'll just give you a new handset and send your old one back for reconditioning. So it's probably a good idea to back up everything before you go just to be on the safe side.
