Last week I purchased a TX-L37V20B it soon became clear that it did not come up to my Pana. of 2007 that it was to replace.
The white level was impossible to get anywhere near where it should be, also on dark pictures the four corners in particular the bottom ones were lit up as if by search lights.
I have put this down to the led back lighting, so yesterday it went back and I got my money back.
My dear other half has put is foot down now so I will have to keep a low profile for a while before I can upgrade again
I suppose I could have got a " Friday " night set one good point was the iplayer loaded a lot quicker with it but I could not live with the picture.

I've not experienced an LED lit large tv yet, but have just repaired a small 7" LED lit tv.

Personally I think it's a "new" technology for the sake of it and I wouldn't bother.

You have found the illumination to be wanting, and I can't say I am surprised.

The little 7" set I had was just the same, brighter at the edges. Not surprising as all the LED's are at the edge of the screen. Whereas the ccfl tubes in a conventional LCD screen are spread over the whole screen so you would expect more uniform illumination.

But my big concern is reliability. To get high brightness from an LED you have to run it at close to it's maximum ratings. This little set I had, had blown all it's LED's, so I can only hope the big LED lit sets are built better and are more reliable than this little one.

Stick with your old set if I were you.

Not so unfortunately, the company I work for supply Sharp 40 & 46" LED backlit sets and we have had many panel failures due to LED problems. Also I agree with the OP, the uniformity of illumination on dark scenes on LED models is appalling.
My four year old Panasonic 37PX70 knocks spots off the stuff that I see in our workshop.
