Yup. Obviously nothing's been confirmed, but it's pretty much a given that there will be a fifth iPhone this summer (whether it's called "iPhone 5" is another matter though).
Apple loves annual product cycles, and as KieranDS has pointed out it has released a new iPhone every summer since 2007. Typically, the new iPhone is announced at the Apple WWDC in early June, and then released a few weeks later. iPhone: Announced on the 9th of January 2007, at Macworld, and released on the 29th of June 2007. iPhone 3G: Announced on the 9th of June 2008, at the WWDC, and released on the 11th of July 2008. iPhone 3GS: Announced on the 8th of June 2009, at the WWDC, and released on the 19th of June 2009. iPhone 4: Announced on the 7th of June 2010, at the WWDC, and released on the 24th of June 2010. As it doesn't officially exist, no features have been confirmed. However, it would seem logical that it would at least feature the new dual-core "Apple A5" used in the iPad 2. |

I dont think there has been a recent apple product that has not been replaced after a year. Ipods/Phones/Pads. Phone is just as likely to be revamped causing all the apple fans shell out more money.
On the plus side, if you are patient you should be able to pick up an Iphone 4 bargain when the new one draws closer. |

There will be a price drop on the 4 when the 5 is released.
What is likely to happen: 3GS Dropped 4 moves to 3GS's price point 5 comes in at 4's price point. It's what has happened in the last three incarnations and as Apple like tradition, will probably happen this year too. http://store.apple.com/uk/browse/hom...co=MTAyNTQzMjI |

I seriously doubt that, when a new iphone has been released in the past, they have not reduced the price of the previous version too much, what they tend to do is drop the model that was out before the previous one, i,e when the iphone 4 came out, they dropped the iphone 3g, so would imagine when the iphone 5(or whatever it will be called) does arrive, the 3gs will get dropped, they do this to stop overflooding the market and to keep the price of the previous model(in this case iphone 4) as high as possible

No iPhone 5 release this June, apparently it will be at end of September now according to some reports.

I'd be surprised if we see an all-new iPhone this year.
At a guess Apple will want to harness the significantly improved GPU performance in the A5 so I can see a lower clocked (and therefore lower power usage) model of the A5 being put into the iPhone. They may decide to consolidate their CDMA2000 model into the same package so they don't have to make two different models of iPhone any more too. (Although saying that if it was relatively easy to do they would have done it with the iPad 2.) I reckon they'll do an interim model with some improvements similar to the move from 3G to 3GS and then an all-new model next year. |

It will be June or September. No one knows for certain but it will more likely be June (release date 20th june).
The iphone 5 will be offered in both black and white and some are speculating Black June and White September. |

The "rumours" state that iOS5 will be delayed, but the iPhone 5 will be more than capable of running iOS4 in the interim. Again what is likely to happen is that Apple will announce/release the iPhone 5 with either the version of iOS4 that is around at that time, a modified version of iOS4 or indeed a flavour of iOS5 which will only be available to the iPhone 5 until its general release. |

Rumours suggest that the iPhone 5 wont be released till September to coincide with iOS5. Make of that what you will.

The MacRumors Buyers' Guide recommends holding off purchase of the iPhone as an update is expected "soon", but they're probably applying the same logic as everyone else on this thread.

I'd wait, esp. if you have a 3GS, it's more than likely to be June knowing Apple, but if it's Sept then it's only a few more months!

http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/28/n...oks-from-here/ http://www.reghardware.com/2011/03/2..._ios_5_launch/ What they've failed to notice is that last year's WWDC announcement also didn't mention new hardware, and yet the iPhone 4 was announced. It's all rumour and speculation. The only people who know for certain are Apple, and they're very very secretive. It's a simple case of wait and see. |

iOS 5 is going to get a complete overhaul and by all accounts be more tightly integrated with OS X, we will get a preview of that at WWDC but no iPhone announcement, But by all accounts it seems to be a fall launch for the iPhone 5

I really do love my iPhone so I don't want to start a bashing war against Apple here. But it does worry me slightly that the iPhone will start to get ever-so-more out of date unless they implement some grand features on the next iPhone if it really is due to come out at the end of 2011.
I'm reading about smartphones now with better screens, better cameras, faster processing power - aren't there even 3D smartphones appearing now? I think I will be sticking with the iPhone for the foreseeable future, but if other manufacturers are faster at adopting new technology at a much faster rate, I feel the iPhone may start to get left behind. To make it clearer, I want the next iPhones to have more than slight tweaks! |
