The Foxsat HDR 500gb is a larger disc version of the 320gb
they are for use on the Freesat platform.

The Fox T2 is for receiving Freeview.

Both their posts say that they use the humax It will be the foxsat as like me they use Freesat. No you cannot record freeview on it .They are two different platforms,Freesat being via satellite, and Freeview is terrestrial via an ariel.

If you want to record Freesat you need a freesat+ pvr connected to a dish (the same dish and satellites used for Sky) I second the Foxsat-HDR

If you want to record Freeview you need a Freeview+ pvr connected to a normal uhf aerial. There's a lot more choice with Freeview+ kit because SD (Standard Definition) kit has been around for years, but if you want to record High Definition then the Humax Fox-hdr T2 is probably the best option currently available.

If you want to record both you need a freesat+ box and a dish plus a freeview+ box and an aerial.

Most channels are on Freeview and Freesat but there are some differences.

If buying only one pvr you can only record Freeview OR Freesat - not both.

With the Foxsat you need twin outputs from you satellite dish for the PVR and then will be unable to use the TV satellite tuner.

I have a 37" Panasonic like you and bought the Freeview recorder. You can record 2 programs at once with watching a third from Freesat. I watch the TV via its tuners and use the pvr only for recording.

There are minor niggles.

The Panasonic EPG is a dog

The Freeview box will not do RF loopthrough unless you turn OFF the power saving mode in Standby - I bypass this as my PSU for the mastheap amp has a twin output so I feed the TV direct.

The Humax does not switch automatically between SD and HD settings on playback - or something of this nature. This has been mentioned elsewhere on the Forum.

I think this is the cause of a problem I have watching recorded football highlights where the "long view" of players appears blurred. Not had time to play about with the TV settings. Not had any other playback problems.

Happy to stand corrected.

I'm sure I read somewhere on this forum of switching problems but I've had a look through and can't find anything. Perhaps I was thinking of which piece of kit "up-scales" the picture to HD.

Must find time to review the SD recording I have of football to see if it has the image blurring I've seen before.

Yes you can, if you bring in a third feed from the dish.

With respect please make sure of your facts before offering advice on these forums.
I too have the panasonic set up and agree totally with excollier regarding set up.
I personally don't find the Panny EPG a dog,you do but you should make clear that thats your personal opinion!!

Some Panasonic TVs can perform basic PVR functionality on the internal tuners if you connect a compatible USB hard drive:
http://panasonic.jp/support/global/c...usb/index.html

Note this locks the tuners whilst the recording is in progress, but you can switch to an external source I believe. (I have one of these TVs but have yet to hook it up to a drive, otherwise I would check specifically how it works.)

So this may be useful if the OP has a compatible set and wished to have a separate Freeview PVR, and the option to record Freesat. The drive is around £50 from Amazon IIRC.

It wouldn't work for me, a few software upgrades ago - you are forced to either watch it, or put it on standby. I haven't tried it recently, so it may have changed.

I have the Panasonic G20B and a Seagate 1TB USB hard disk attached. It acts fine as a single tuner PVR although with 2 Humax boxes I just use it for live TV time shifting. When it is recording from the Freeview or Freesat side of the TV you can switch to any of the other external inputs but note that you cannot switch to Freesat if you are recording a Freeview channel (and vice-versa).

One minor oddity is that the power management feature of the Seagate hard drive confuses the TV sometimes. So if you have been watching via an external input and the hard disk has powered down (and in sleep mode) then switching the TV back to one if its tuners sometimes causes the TV to hang with a blank screen for about 20 seconds until the hard disk wakes up.

I have the Goodmans version as i didnt like the idea of waiting an hour every time you press a button on the humax. We need some second gen ones to come out that iron out the bugs these machines have though.

We have Humax 9150 Freeview PVR, SCART RGB connection, and Foxsat HDR PVR HDMi connection, with a Panasonic 42" Freesat/Freeview plasma TV but still prefer the 9150 because:-
1. The remote does not have to be 'pointed' so much.
2. The picture is so good with 9150 and upscaling by the TV that and find there is little improvement of the few channels in HD on TV or Foxsat HD tuners.
3. The responses/delete time is quicker.
4. Imo the epg and interface is better.
5. Already with BCC iplayer and recording from freesat from the TV, imo the higher cost of Foxsat box and additional satellite wiring may not be worth it.
