"Fox still wins the night, and beats the NCAA tournament (watched over four networks) in total viewers."

On a night where overall TV viewing was low, and a basketball tournament was on offer, American Idol still managed to be the most rated show, with 19 million viewers.

St. Patrick's day. On a Thursday. Meaning many people probably took friday off and therefore were out all night.

On top of March Madness.

And still number 1

#1 or not #1, the drop in American Idol's audience was 4% higher than the overall drop. Not a great sign. In fact a terrible sign.

No surprise though. People aren't buying the overblown comments about a bunch of previous rejects and poor impersonators of previous contestants and this week's show was the worst of the series so far so I wouldn't be surprised if many lost interest when it came to the results.

Candy Store why do torture yourself with this show?

You can watch other shows.

The Basketball had 17 million viewers and took a large chunk out of the ratings.

Far from being torture, I'm finding the show this year quite hilarious.

There was no contest in the Wednesday ratings. “American Idol” pulled in 23.5 million viewers over two hours. Fox won the night in total viewers and in young adults by wide margins.

According to early ratings, “Idol” averaged 21.7 million viewers in the 8 p.m. hour. The audience climbed to 25.2 million in the second hour, giving the later singers the chance to reach more potential voters. In the final half-hour, “Idol” reached 26.1 million viewers.

The only reason Idol is slower in the first hour is because Survivor is another ratings monster.
It will take another hit tonight because the basketball finals are still on.

The slow first hour and the low viewers for last week's results show and more than likely this week, and comparatively low for the top 24 (no idea why the blip/glitch/bump in top 13 week) suggests that most viewers aren't bothered about any particular contestant/s and whether they miss their performances and whether or not they get through.
