Confirmed: No Flying In Final
ABCZYX
21-03-2011
I've just had a look at Robin Cousins' Twitter page and he has said to someone:

Quote:
“no flying this year. Something new and it'll be good fun for our finalists”

And a few minutes earlier:

Quote:
“Think we'll have a great final. you think we've seen some new twists? Well there's some great things happening for the final 3. Stay tuned!”

Sooo pease about this. I am not a Sam fan at all but the flying does favour the girls & it's not what the show is about - it's Dancing On Ice not flying in the air.

We'll be trying to guess all week now

Can't think of anything else just now

EDIT: I can't quote your quotes

If you press 'QUOTE' to reply, the stuff that is already in quote tags doesn't come up in the box, that's why it hasn't showed up in your post.

You can put it back in manually by copying and pasting the original quote and putting quote tags round it, ie

(QUOTE) at the start and (/QUOTE) at the end - in each case replacing round brackets with square ones - but it's a bit fiddly.

TFFT. I have Peter Pan on DVD if I want to watch that kind of thing.

I'm none too keen on props week either.

Solo skate was very good idea.

Great news, lets hope they put on more solo skating instead of the flying.....yeah

Thank god - it's the one thing in DOI I've always loathed. Lets hope we never, ever see it again!

Hoo-ray. Can't believe they stuck with that pointless load of nonsense as long as they did.

So it's a showcase routine rather than the flying is it? How sensible

Mind you, I don't know how it'll work in practice - when you've been fed choreography for eight weeks, will you feel confident enough to make up your own routines as a pair? How much input witll T&D have? How much will the finalists ask them to have? Will a routine that's had more T&D input be better than one that hasn't? Or not?

Either way, lots to think about and look forward to. Mystic LL's prediction would be that this plays right into Sam's hands, but I'm looking forward to being proved wrong

Think the flying was one of the least favourite things on doi - could it be possible that the producers have listened for once to viewers? (Probably not!!)

Must admit I wasn't listening too carefully when the showcase was mentioned, so not sure how they are working a it. They already have to choreograph the bolero themselves, so think choreographing a showcase themselves as well might be too much. Could they be using the other pros as backing skaters to create the "show" aspect? That would be good.

Does that mean they'd be doing those big T&D interval-style routines? That sounds more interesting than the flying but I hope they get more time on the ice for it and don't get swamped by all the production.

I agree on the solo skating. But I will add, they should have had the solo skating long before now. I think we would see a different line up if they would have had to done it earlier.
I doubt Chole would have made it this far if that was the case.

They did have the ultimate skills test earlier in the series which again helped to sort the wheat from the chaff (that was when we finally got rid of Kerry). The semis is the right time to do it - I wouldn't want to sit through some of the dross doing a full 1 minute solo routine which would happen if you put it too early in the competition.

I agree about putting the solo skate in earlier in the series - about week 6 perhaps? - but not sure if it would make a lot fo difference in the line up as viewers would still vote for the ones they want to save regardless of what they could or couldn't do!!

I actually think it was in about the right place. By the time you get down to the semi-final, you want to watch the people who can really skate and produce a watchable performance on their own. What better way to make your mind up on that than watch them skate without the help of a partner?

Plus, the skills test was a similar concept designed to test people's skating ability, and I think that was a better yardstick in terms of separating strong from weak at that stage than a solo skate would have been.

I think 'solo week' could be the new 'props week' in terms of a target for the better skaters

I think Chloe has long been one of the better skaters, and even though she had some problems in her solo routine, she still skated well in most ways and was moving quickly over the ice (by DOI stabndards).

Good points, all three.

And I am so glad to see the end of the 'flying'.

And it only took them 6 series to work out how useless it was.

Like most on here, I have always loathed the 'flying' part of the final.
It seems to me to have little to do with skating anyway.
The only advantage to it this year, as far as I am concerned, was the fact that it gave Laura and Chloe a slight advantage over the ungainly. but supremely confident, Sam.

I don't know who you're watching, but 'ungainly' would be a long way down the list of reasons for me to criticise Sam's skating. The man's a dancer, he knows how to work those limbs. If anything, you'd think he'd be better off-ice where the skates can't trip him up.

I'd have feared for Chloe in a flying routine because she still struggles a little with the placement of her arms and legs for perfect lines.

However, it's all a moot point and this way we really do get to see the best of everyone
