Sound Problem
Hi,
I have my Stereo connected to some speakers, I have then connected the Stereo to the Headphone port on my monitor/TV for sound, When I play video games and watch TV the sound is fine but when I use the PC it only comes out of one speaker. Does anyone have any idea of why it might do this? |

How is the PC connected to the TV? Presumably via a VGA lead and separate audio lead?
First thing to check. Is there stereo sound coming out of the PC. The way to check this is to unplug the lead from the TV headphone socket and plug it into the Line/Speaker out on the PC. If you only get sound from one channel then the PC is at fault. If you get sound from both speakers then suspect the lead you use from PC to TV. Second check if the PC is OK is that the lead from PC to TV is properly plugged in. It is quite possible with mini-jack plugs to have them pull out a little and lose connection to one channel. So make sure the plugs are fully pushed in. If they are properly connected than try another lead if you have one. If the sound direct from the PC is only on one channel then open the sound mixer application on the PC. Some sources have balance controls that vary the relative volume of left and right channels. Make sure that any such controls are centred. If all seems normal but you still get only one channel then it could be a mechanical fault with the socket on the PC. Possibly one of the contacts broken. Replacing the socket might be a bit of a pain, especially if it's the motherboard sockets rather than a separate sound card. It might be easier in some cases to get a new sound card! |
