My Humax Freesat+ box randomly reboots itself a couple of times a week, is this a know fault.

I have tried to search for software update, it says there aren't any.

Had mine since launch month (so well over 2 years) and never suffered a reboot - unless you count issuing a "reboot" command via a telnet login (whoops)

My Humax HDR FOX-T2 (Freeview PVR) is a different matter however

I have found if you are looking at the guide at the same time a recording should start it will reboot.

I have had that happen. Have you noticed if it happens when using the Guide button or using the Schedule -> Red buttons which take you to the stored guide?

I had one funny a week or two ago. I glanced at the box and the display was blank but blue illuminated. It stayed that way for ten minutes and wouldn't respond to the remote so I eventually power cycled it. I've no idea what it was trying to do. I was using my Sky HD box at the time so the Humax should have been idle or recording. If it was recording it would be a red illumination and as far as I know I haven't lost anything.

Try unplugging it for 1 min and reconnect.

Mines done it about 3 times since Nov 2008, it's very hard to pin down the exact circumstances but it does seem to relate to a change of running status on either a set up recording or the channel you are watching. The box reboots itself and if it had terminated a recording required a manual instant recording.

And mine has done it a couple of times in the last three months. Not too fussed about it though.

This sounds very similar to what my box is doing - I wonder if I've got a faulty box - If I put mine into standby (or let it go into standby) it won't respond to the remote's power button or the front panel button - it has a blank screen and blue light. I end up having to power cycle it. I've left it 'on' for the time being.
It's a 'new to me' manager's special that I've had for less than a fortnight.
I've emailed Humax tech support but am less than impressed with the response I've had. I won't be able to speak to them until I get a day off - but I think the box's power supply is borked!

It's happened to me twice in about the past two weeks but not in the nearly two years I've had it before then. Both times have been at a change in recording. First time I had a conflict. Nothing special the second time. However, the subsequent recording failed.

I had mine well over 12 months now and never had that problem. The only time its ever froze was when someone else was using it and going down the guide page like the clappers and the box froze up.

Just happened to me today whilst using temporary 19inch to view ..BUT very first time using HDMI.. possibly not relevant?!
Seemingly I had set up a clash for Emmerdale and the offering to close one was on screen..
I chose and touched OK..
Janet was very upset as it then switched off and rebooted ever so slowly..
First time in 18months..

Dread the new TV coming tomorrow!

Yep, it does that. For me it is not quite so frequent and it tends to coincide with a recording starting, i.e. the very worst time it can happen - and it doesn't even resume the recording when it reboots!

No there hasn't been an update to the software for a long, long time.

That's another well known but different issue. Those who live with the box get used to waiting for it to respond to each remote command, those who aren't familiar with it naively expect it to actually work and keep up.

I've not had another 'funny'. To be honest the only glitch I'm aware of is the slightly sluggish remote control and I've known worse. On the other hand I am only using it as a backup for my Sky HD box so aren't using it especially heavily. It probably records one or two hours most evenings and gets used to play back recordings a couple of times a week.

Still - overall I'd say it's as reliable as the Sky box - ie;has almost never let me down.
