I use the installed email client for my Gmail. I also have the Gmail app installed which can't be removed but seems to have been configured at the same time when I first turned my phone on.

I have set my LG email client to check for new email every 5 minutes, which it did do, but now for some reason, it doesn't retrieve them straight away. I use a mixture of 3G and Wi-Fi but shouldn't think that makes a difference.

Sometimes if I click 'refresh' new emails come through. Any ideas?
