Also my slingcatcher seems incompatible as well...........surely this isnt the case?

My sling catcher worked fine but some of the functions on the remote were different, are both up to date software wise?

Got mine yesterday.

Not keen when recording two channels at the same time you cant flick between the two using up/down buttons, you have to go through the guide and select each one.

Not keen when you press guide, you have to select all channels to see bbc1 bbc2 etc, an option to remove the genre selection would be good, like the humax has.

Also the box when in standby, makes a noise, a buzzing, like the hard drive is turning, not good if you use it in your bedroom.

I'd forgotten this thread, but I found this the other day while looking for something else on placeshiftingenthusiasts...

http://placeshiftingenthusiasts.com/...ith-hds-600rs/

http://placeshiftingenthusiasts.com/...-600-commands/

So, while Echostar say the Sling Catcher isn't supported (the auto set up won't set up your router to let it connect to the Sling Catcher outside your home), people have made the old Sling Catcher boxes work with the HDS600 by changing their router settings manually (instructions in the first thread above), and have mapped the remote control buttons correctly manually (instructions in the second thread above).

Sorry if this advice comes too late. I didn't even know that placeshiftingenthusiasts.com existed when the question was first asked.

Cheers,
David.

Another thing, lip sync, seems miles out, hard to adjust it

That's one thing I noticed - it's not as quiet as the Humax when you first switch it off.

After a while (not sure how long), the HDS600 goes into a deeper sleep and gets quieter.

More importantly, both the Humax and Echostar STBs let you choose different stand by modes - the Humax is set to the "almost dead" standby mode by default, while the Echostar is set to the "easily woken" standby mode by default. I think the Echostar has an "almost dead" standby mode too, but you can't wake it up from it over Sling in this mode, and it takes longer to boot (like the Humax).

I left my relatives Echostar box in the "easily woken" standby mode because her hearing isn't perfect, and it's nice that it can wake up so quickly in this mode. There was no "buzzing" noise, just a very quiet hum of the HDD spinning (which went to sleep eventually). It was sat directly on a glass shelf under the TV. Check whatever you're sitting it on isn't vibrating, and especially that the cables from the STB aren't carrying vibration to something else.

In this state, I still happily slept next to it. (I was kipping on a mattress on the living room floor after installing it!).

Cheers,
David.

Thanks will give it a go.

The lip sync issue is bugging me big time, tried altering it, doesnt seem to make a difference, hearing voice before the lips move, using hdmi to my tv.

Just got my box today, having the same issue on certain channels.

I have set up back to back recordings to test it out and had a message at 8pm saying "unable to record You've Been Framed" due to a lack of resources. Would this be due to another programme on an other channel overrunning? Surely the machine is intelligent enough to just start recording when a prior recording has ended?

On the plus side, very impressed by the Sling functionality.

Edit: Just made the box crash for the second time trying out the iPlayer.

It does do some odd things, i was watching and recording the alan titchmarsh show at 3pm this afternoon, id set it to record countdown a few mins later.

It said the same thing about rescources, then switched to channel 4, it does do some odd things.

Been in states for last 3 weeks and my box has performed perfectly.

GF very impressed shes not missed an episode of Eastenders or Corrie.

Myself have been able to keep in contact with local news.

The sling fuctionality is superb - pic is very very nearly broadcast quality hdmi'd from my laptop to a 60" hdtv here in sunny florida.

Is it possible to use a Humax FoxSat HDR and this Echostar unit at the same time, with a quad LNB connected to a fixed dish (formerly Sky) - with two cables to each unit?

The reason I ask is that the echostar does not support DiSEqC switching. Is this at all relevant if one does not have a motorised dish?

Humax supports it and Echostar does not. Not sure what its purpose is with Freesat, if any.

I am thinking of replacing my remaining Sky+ box with the echostar, whilst keeping my existing Humax.

1. Yes.
2. Yes if you have multiple LNB's pointed at different sats.
3. To view non freesat channels.
4. Why not - you could also keep the Sky box to view FTA progs and use the Humax to record.

I've seen this too, but oddly seems to manifest itself on the ITV channels, particularly ITV1 HD. Other channels are fine, e.g. BBC1 HD.

This is great news ... I think! Downloaded and installed.

I have a seperate motorised dish with a sperate Technomate TM1500 with passthru. I guess the Technomate controls the motorised bit and the passthru goes to the Echostar but from then on I cannot make any sense of the instructions and how I mate them together and make these work together.

I guess that the Technomate leaves the motorised dish parked at Astra 2 for normal life ..... but what else can I now do and how do I do it?!

Anyone able to talk slowly and loudly?!

Got my box from Amazon last Friday. There was a very noticeable rattle from the right hand side of the unit so contacted both Amazon and Echostar who said this was likly to be a fault so got it exchanged.

The replacement arrived this morning and still has a rattle although not quite so bad. The original unit was working fine but I am concerned by the rattling.

Anyone else had this?

Not a bad update, front panel brightness adjust is great, something i wanted on the humax from day 1 !

Also , a red line going down on the program guide, showing current time.

And new icons, in the library for new recorded things.

Shame, you cant turn the genre off !

I also thought the daily recording schedule useful.

My first box had this and it was faulty. Replacement box worked fine with no rattle.

my first box had this as well, it was coming from the fan area at the back right hand side, if i stuck a bit of very thin plastic between the metal casing and the black plastic casing around the fan area it stopped it. i think it might have been the fan loose and causing vibration, but the box went back anyway for a different reason and my second box was silent.

Is it just me or when you record two programs at once, you cant rewind or fast forward them?

Why can't you pick up the recordings from the media list and play them back in chasing playback. I don't have the box but I guess it must have chasing playback.
