That's one thing I noticed - it's not as quiet as the Humax when you first switch it off.
After a while (not sure how long), the HDS600 goes into a deeper sleep and gets quieter.
More importantly, both the Humax and Echostar STBs let you choose different stand by modes - the Humax is set to the "almost dead" standby mode by default, while the Echostar is set to the "easily woken" standby mode by default. I think the Echostar has an "almost dead" standby mode too, but you can't wake it up from it over Sling in this mode, and it takes longer to boot (like the Humax).
I left my relatives Echostar box in the "easily woken" standby mode because her hearing isn't perfect, and it's nice that it can wake up so quickly in this mode.
There was no "buzzing" noise, just a very quiet hum of the HDD spinning (which went to sleep eventually). It was sat directly on a glass shelf under the TV. Check whatever you're sitting it on isn't vibrating, and especially that the cables from the STB aren't carrying vibration to something else.
In this state, I still happily slept next to it. (I was kipping on a mattress on the living room floor after installing it!).
Cheers,
David.
