Have you checked your connection some of these issues could be related to signal?

None of the issues you report have been expressed by other forum members. What sw version are you on? These were issues solved by the current sw and previous sw, as such no users are reporting the type of senarios you express.

I would advise you to do what other users have done, which is contact echostar support direct. This box has its own website and other forum members have expressed how echostar are engaging, in taking them through any issues. As reported by these users all the issues reported have been worked on by echostar.

Hi, as I said the connections, signal etc seem to be fine and I am on the latest firmware. I have been in contact with Echostar and they do seem very helpful so I will get in touch again on Monday.

Right then. Exchange the box! Sorry to read about your issues. It is really good and noone is reporting those issues here, a one off. I know your first experience wasn't good, but you will love the box.
So many have commented on how good and easy to use the UI is and the sling functions. I beleive you will really like the current functions once you have exchanged the box. The fact other forum members have reported how helpful echostar are is a good siign they are receptive, engaging and thoughtful to customer issues. unlike other makers

I'm actually enjoying using the box and love the features it has, if I can get a working box then i'll be a happy man. I have sent support an email so will take it from there.

I've just had a reply from Echostar, they are sending out a replacement box so *hopefully* that will be the end of my problems.

Good news on getting a new 600 HDS, wouldn't expect anything less though. Echostar seem to be fairly customer friendly, unlike some other manufacturers. Humax simply were'nt interested when my Foxsat HDR packed in after 2 years use. Good luck with your new box

The end of my SKY subscription happened on Monday, so I now been living with my echostar for 4 nights, and I just want to say

I don't know if i'm missing something, but is there an easier way of accessing the non-freesat channels other than deep into the menus. I would love to favourite non-freesat channels with the freesat, is it possible?

T.P.- I'm not sure about putting non-freesat channels into favourites, don't think its possible. What you can do is watch non freesat while recording 1 channel in Freesat mode tho, something i couldn't do with my Humax.

I bought one of these today with the 500GB drive from Maplin using the "DISCOUNT7" code, using reserve+collect, via topcashback.com so hopefully it's cost me about £165. I was pleasantly surprised to find an HDMI cable in the box as I was expecting to have to order one. The 2m network cable was useful too.

Everything so far is good in terms of being a DVR. I use a PS3 with PlayTV too, so I chose this echostar on the basis of people's comments on the UI, and it works very well, looks good on a 1080p TV - much nicer than my Panasonic Plasma Freesat (also 1080p), and in some ways better than PlayTV's as it uses the whole screen, but looks a little bit cluttered compared to PlayTV.

My problem is that I can't get the Sling feature to work. I registered online, and added the slingbox OK, and the sling accounts page shows it. I set a PIN and a password on the slingbox. When I go to the sling website and click the watch tab, I get asked for the admin password over and over. I have tried the admin password I put in the box, as well as password from my sling web login, and also the device pin in desperation, and nothing worked.
I have ensured that the udp port that the echostar is listening on is port-mapped on my router/firewall. I see no logs indicating blocked traffic. Does anyone have any ideas please?

With a new sling box, all you need to do is connect it to your home network, then using a PC that's also connected to your home network go to watch.slingbox.com, register for a new slingbox.com account, and then click on watch.

That's it. Don't introduce any extra steps! Don't go to "slingbox set up". Don't change the STB password. Don't manually configure your router.

Though maybe you need to enable slinging on that STB? I don't remember if it's on or off by default. I know the ultra low power mode disables Slinging when the STB is switched off, but that's not the default mode.

I would like to know has any one whit one of these use it on Astra1 at 19.2 and set it up quite easy the free to air channels.

The latest sw allows this in nonfreesat mode, with full access the the 7 days epgs via the now and next

Both are compatible.

The router at your home needs to have TCP selected and manually set Port Forwarding to 5101. Every router is different but find the instructions online- it isn't too difficult. Use www.logmein.com and access someone's PC on the home network if you can't get there.

The only problems I had was setting the Catcher coloured buttons to mirror those on the Echostat HDS. You have to go to the Guide on the HDS and try all the programmable functions on the catcher then allocate the right command to the right colored button. It's accessed by pressing OPT on the Catcher remote.

As for the old SlingPlater you need an older version so try and download it here:

Search your pc for SlingPlayer.ini It is buried away under application data folder, but is in different locations depending on you running xp or 7. But the file name is the same. You need to enable search for hidden files in order to find it.

Edit this file using notepad (not a word processor) and you will see a line that says "checkforupdatesonstart=1". Change the 1 to a 0. Save the file. Next time you run the slingplayer, it will not look for updates.The updates would stop it working with the HDS.

thanks for that. something's definitely gone wrong as I have used tcpdump on my router/firewall and I am not seeing the network traffic I would expect when I try and login in remotely.

For anyone interested the Echostar600 HDS is available for under £180 now inc p+p with a 2 year warranty from www.Satbuyer.com. Also noticed the Humax Foxsat HDR has lowered in price too, i believe a new version is planned this year?

Just an update on my box. I got the replacement 2 weeks ago and all has been fine, no missed recordings, just missed the end of a few Channel 4 shows though.

Is it better to have recordings on auto or padded?

My only trouble now is Sky have sent me a tempting 75% comeback offer which I am considering but I am happy with Freesat at present.

Fixed! I can now watch my slingbox over the local network, I'll be able to check from work tomorrow.

Following suggestions found elsewhere I did a factory reset (which doesn't erase your library of recordings, but does lose scheduled recordings), re-entered all the appropriate settings, re-added it to my slingbox account, and now it works.

This is a broadcaster issue: C4 send a signal for accurate recording (ac) of programmes start and finnish. Occasionally they much this up and the start and end and clip off the start or end of programmes.

Auto is better in case of schedule changes (live sport etc). I only set programmes on 5's channels, as timer 3 minutes either side, as they are always out. The BBC, ITV and C4 seem to be fine.


Not a box issue blame the broadcaster!

Good news on getting a replacement, personally i set timers of 2mins before and 3mins after a scheduled recording. Makes sense to me.

Well, I've ditched Sky ( a lot less painful than i thought it would be) and am very tempted with the Echostar
