thats a shame, i was hoping 117r was totally reliable, hopefully it was just a one off, please let us know how you get on. if i have any problems i will be sure to post them, i am sure echostar read these forums, well if they are interested in what people think of their product and the competition they will.

That could be a broadcaster issue. So many seem to forget to series link, change the time and not update the epg info. Or the series link.
Channel 5 also like to reuse series links so if the programme is repeated, and you want to only series link the repeat, the next episode will record not the repeat you selected!

Sounds like this box has potential and it RECORDS the buffer.
*Just out of interest will it give you alternatives of the same program to record if you get a clash. I do find this feature very useful on the Humax. *

Aye, it does. However it doesn't do the washing up, yet!

It was across all channels, including many programmes that I didn't set to record, and alternate programme flags.

Possibly the Echostar got some data without the series link info, and never updated it's cache. But without any question, the guide data being used / presented was incorrect, and resetting the device retrieved correct data.

In that case is can you check that you are receiving the freesat data stream correctly. Some of those issues could be that you are receiving the data intermittently . 28.2°E Eurobird 1 11426.00 H 27500 2/3.

If your signal is intermittent, then its your installation. If not report all the issues to Echostar.

I can well believe that my data stream isn't 100% reliable - it is using my 'old' satellite dish whilst I have it running in parallel with the Humax. However, the feed is good most of the time, it just drops off a cliff very quickly in poor weather.

But in this case, I don't think it should make a difference - after all, it did have the guide correctly filled out with all the programmes for 7 days. Even if it missed part of the data, it:

a) shouldn't have affected all the recordings (and many more guide entries) over a full 7 days.

b) it should update the data regularly, in which case it would have at least managed to get some of the series links corrected.

If it can't manage that, then I stand by my assessment that it's not ready for prime time. Comparing the two, I would say that whilst I prefer the guide display of the Echostar and the Sling functionality is a big plus, the Humax is more realiable and useful in regular use.

had mine 10 days now running 117r and still working faultlessly, this really is a good pvr, so easy to use.

well i wish i had never made the above post, since i made it i have had nothing but recording problems. over the last few days i have set about 20 recordings, i would estimate 40% have not recorded at all, 40% have either the beginning or end cut off and 20% are ok. almost all the recordings have been from the various itv channels, some during the day and some during the night, is it possible itv send out a lot of duff crids (i think thats whet you call them) or have i got a faulty box, i have done at least three factory resets.

i have just set some recordings from the bbc channels for tonight to see if it makes any difference.

anyone else having similar problems?

tried some bbc recordings tonight, out of six recordings, two failed, three were ok and one missed the beginning.

i have sent an email to echostar to let them know.

Echostar are very engaging over the issues, and they are working on them.

I do think that some, but not all, of the timer issues are due to broadcasters, who badly manage their auto record flags.

have you been having recording problems as well?

if so have you been on to them and what did they say?

i also thought it might be down to the broadcasters so i set my sky hd box back up last night and set nine recordings to record during the night while i was in bed, that was the time i was getting most failures with the echostar. i have just checked and all programmes have recorded properly except for one which missed the beginning off, so not bad at all considering they were all done in the early hours of the morning.

i know that sky and freesat use the same satellite but do they use the same recording info as each other as well or do sky use their own?

No sky and freesat use different technological systems. You can't compare the accuracy that way. You have to do it between freesat boxes.

Echostar are aware

ok thanks.

you don't give much away do you.

i am still in my 30 day money back guarantee, but i hope echostar sort it before then, i don't want to have to return another box.

That's a pity, but they have promised an update this month so let's hope they get it sorted for that.

Has anyone had any experience of the remote managing of the recording schedule. Does it do the job?

Its just your normal tv schedule through the internet via the sling function.

Sorry I'm not being evasive, I'm not able to disclose any information.

Thanks. I've hot had a chance to play with one of these yet, so does that mean if I'm fiddling around with the guide/schedules etc remotely that this would also be shown on the screen at home?

That's not an issue (for me!) but it's handy to know how it works in practice.

i still haven't had a reply to my email i sent to echostar yet, its only been two days but i would have thought they would have replied by now to such an important issue, other members have reported getting replies to their emails the following day.

the first time they started having problems they posted on their website and let people know there was a software update coming, this time they haven't posted anything. i hope they release the new software update by next week so i can get it down loaded and tested before my 30 day money back guarantee runs out, i don't want to end up in a situation where i cant return it and i am still having recording problems, just incase they cant sort them out. so hopefully the next update will work, i hope so because i really like this box, but its no good if it cant record what i tell it to.

Is there an iPlayer app under the apps menu or do you load iPlayer by hitting the red button?

At the moment, the usual red button route or via the on demand menu in the guide.

Ok cool, thought I was missing something

How about DLNA support? The spec sheet says it's supported but I can't see how to access any settings on the box.

Argh, now I see. That was a pre-production leaflet. As with most other material before launch, this should be taken an an intention.

The current one is at http://www.myechostar.co.uk/~/media/...e%2011311.ashx

Note the availability of features changed.

The product launched fairly recently, so, as with similar electronics, features tend to be added later on.

At the moment, you can view the recordings and live television, on the box, through the sling media website.

Does that answer your query?

Yep, just wish that we had DLNA support out of the box too, hope it gets added soon
