To think Laura almost did not make the show

Was not a fan of the primary round with the public vote. Because no one knew Laura she was so close to going out before making it on to the show proper. Even from then she looked liked someone that could win. Hope they dont repeat it next year. If she wins on Sunday it beggers belief to think she was in the bottom two first week before the judges started scoring and the show started properly.

Wouldn't be the first time its happened Gaynor Faye was in the skate off in the first show in series one and went on to win it. Gary Lucy was in the skate off in his first show last year and went on to take second place.

Even going on the normal format its possible Laura could still have been in the skate off in her first week and gone on to be saved by the judges in the skate off and then been in the final as she is now as even normally its still the public that decide the bottom two. Just in this case they had the final say overall.

Series 2 Clare Buckfield was in the skate off more than once and made the final but she was beaten by Kyran. She was robbed.

I know. We were SO close to a Laura-free DOI. Shame.

Guess a Laura-free DOI would have given Chloe a better chance.

Never mind, Sunday will show whether talent (Laura) prevails over ... erm I'm not sure what (Chloe).

Robbed is an exaggeration and a half. Kyran could skate at least as well as Clare and while his performance might not have been as elegant and finished, he'd come a hell of a long way. Clare started at a higher level (in terms of score) than anyone else in history of the programme. If anyone else got close or caught her (and Kyran did) she was always going to suffer. Unlucky? Almost certainly. Robbed? Cobblers - the result was a toss up .

*gets on soapbox*

From the very first show, the judges and T&D were calling Laura one of the strongest competitors - I remember watching the skate-off and all of them mentioning how shocked they were that she found herself in that position.

Chloe also came in for a lot of positive comments right from the very first skate she did, which immediately won her a lot of fans.

Both the girls have done a stunning job to get to where they are, but to pretend (as just about every thread on here seems to) that they've transformed themselves from no-hopers into realistic prospects is a VEEEEEEERY long stretch. They were always good. They just weren't always as good as Sam.

So this is not a surprise final and one of the girls winning would not be a surprise result. End of.

I think there was a backlash against Laura being one of those so-called celebrities no-one had ever heard about. Colin was new so she couldn't rely on him picking up votes for her in the way that Dan or Matt would.

Thankfully all that soon changed and they're very worthy finalists. Colin's got himself his own fanbase now which will help his partner next year (assuming he's back, of course. Oh please let him be back! )

Agreed. I get a little irritated when people throw around the 'robbed' word when their favourite doesn't win. At the end of the day provided a good skater wins that's all that matters to me & Kyran was most certainly that. Clare would certainly have been a worthy winner too but the public preferred Kyran, simple as. A lot of people throw around the r word with regards to Chris too. IMO he is undoubtedly the best skater never to win the show but Suzanne again improved a lot over the course of the series & was fantastic in the final so she deserved her victory too.

I certainly feel the show would have been weaker if Laura had been eliminated in the early rounds. Skating wise I wouldn't think there is much to choose between Laura and Sam (though skating experts who know technique might disagree) I felt on their real test - i.e. the solo round - Laura was by far the better to watch, I liked her cheekiness and the fact she has great personality.

Laura does have a great personality, I agree and it shows on the ice.
