Windows Phone 7 “NoDo” update now available

No message on my phone yet, I will have to check with Zune software when I get back home...

Apparently it's unbranded phones first. Most operators will be rolling out over next couple of weeks now that it is released. My phone is unlocked but not debranded so it seems like I'll be using my HD7 on Three but waiting for O2 to release update :/

My phone is similar, unlocked, branded for another network I actually use

Maybe this'll help with getting NoDo early. It only works on HTC phones and you need to have your phone dev unlocked.

Thanks for the link, I may use it if I get bored waiting for my operator. In the meantime I'll have a look what it entails to have the phone dev-unlocked...

The network operators should start rolling it out from next week according to The Guardian. Windows Phone 7 update to roll out next week

Well, I did try that, my phone is now dev unlocked, no NoDo But at least now I can upload custom ringtones to it, which was more fun to do than it should have been

I did it the stupid way. I have a few app ideas, so I subscribed to the App Hub programme, costs $99 per year. I spend more on more stupid things in a week (like food and such ), so I told myself why not. I had to send them a copy of my passport to verify my identity for once I start submitting the apps for publishing and that's it. I got a bit angry already, a bloody listbox does not have a mouse doubleclick event, WTF OK, no mouse, but I can manage double tapping

ETA: I think there was a way to dev-unlock the device just by installing some certificate, but I guess now they check if you have an App Hub account as well or that the phone is linked to such an account.

Have you tried using your HTC as a modem?

I do not see such an option, do I need a special application?

I googled the tethering for WP7, there is quite a simple solution for Samsung phones with diagnostic menus, does not work with HTC though. There's quite a complicated procedure for HTC (DFRouter) which I am not going to try as I do not need the tethering, I just wanted to try it and it seems as too much hassle.

I'm fairly sure I saw a method for HTC phones on the net pretty much the same as the samsung method. Diagnostic menus put the phone into modem mode. It needs a dev-unlocked phone which you now have.

I only found this http://wmpoweruser.com/hackstetherin...r-wp7-devices/

BTW as for custom ringtones I noticed that all that has to be done is to copy the ringtone files (WMA format 48kHz sampling rate) into My Documents/My Ringtones folder on the device and it's done. But since the file system is not exposed you need an app for it to do that for you. But this means MS can add the ringtones with an update of a PC Zune SW, no device update necessary. I wonder why they haven't done it yet.

I have just connected my phone to the PC, wanted to deploy some simple application I am writing and got the 'March update available' message, I am installing it now... I did that trick with debranding, only it did not work immediately so I do not know if this is the update for unbranded phones or it was finally OKed by the operator.

O2 is expected to start rolling out NoDo (Or "March Update") today for HD7 users. If you have flashed an unbranded ROM then you should have it already.

Chris Walsh, one of the guys responsible for the Dev unlocked hack for non-devs released a tool yesterday for those people who do not want to wait for it any longer. You don't need an unbranded device, you don't need a developer unlocked device either...

Instructions are here:

P.S. this will work with every single WP7 device out there. Just as long as the language is supported by Walsh's program.

I did it though I should have waited for the O2 one today. Once it's unlocked by O2 (today), you can get it straight away by plugging into Zune and checking for the update. The roll out over few weeks is only if you wait to get the message on your phone.

Looks like I could have waited with coughing up $99 on dev-unlock I am getting those support tools anyway.

I manage to update a couple hours ago & step 8 took so long that I thought that it had crashed . Once it had finally finished & rebooted, I found that the OS is much more smoother & the copy n paste function is really good as well. .
