I really enjoyed last nights episode. Edward Fox was fab as the batty old bloke.
![]() ![]() I enjoyed last night's too and have been surprised how quickly I've got used to and relaxed with the new John Barnaby. The slower build up and lesser body head count makes it more realistic, imo. it was bugging me where I knew "Selina" from - of course, "Suze!" in Gimme Gimme. |

I think Neil Dudgeon looks extremely like DC and I think they're both gorgeous! Though I think Our Beloved Leader has the advantage.
I also thought there was just a hint of the Samantha about his wife, and wondered if perchance it had been done on purpose, slightly tongue in cheek. I must say I like his style so far, though I wish Jones hadn't turned into a totally different character, if they wanted to do that, they would have been better to actually have a different character. I'm sorry but who are you referring to? It's probably very obvious and I'm about to look a right eejit, but I have to ask

I'm enjoying the new series and find John refreshing in comparison to Tom Barnaby. The dry one-liners make the show more comedic and let's be honest, we are not talking about a mimicked real life drama here. It's just a bit of fun TV where you don't have to think too hard. Would like more suspects and more murders though! As for Jones? I feel I've learned more about him in 2 weeks than I ever have in all the series he's been part off. Wonderfully heroic in saving the day from bonkers Mr Fox... Loving it.

I thought they'd sorted it out at the end of the first episode, with John saying that Tom had, in effect, praised Jones (I can't remember exactly what he said) and so he knew Jones was "a good 'un", and Jones joked that he wouldn't mention having saved John, provided his carear path went well (or words to that effect). So it looked like they had got over the awkwardness between them, and would have a comfortable, relaxed and jokey relationship - which I hope they will. However, by this week, Jones is still a bit stupid, and still resents NewBarnaby. A pity. |

Shurely shome mishtake as Private Eye would say Joely B does, though, it seems. |

I was replying to a few people upthread who said he did, and actually, if you google for the press surrounding the new series, a few places refer to him as 'David Cameron lookalike'
![]() And apologies to Espresso, I do live in a little world of my own, happily abbreviating things and so on, don't know what I'm talking about myself half the time. |

The programme gave me some 'lol' moments. I like that they recycle the guests into different characters. Neil Dudgeon's Barnaby is a huge improvement on John Nettles, who'd really begun to irritate me by the end of his 'reign'. I don't miss Joyce or Cully either. |

I can't see it either. I really like the new Barnaby and this week was definitely better than last.

Many thanks, inkblot.
![]() But, as you say, why kill the social services man in the first place? Funny how most of this cast were all from that very funny sitcom about a newspaper. Haydn Gwynne was excellent, as usual. ![]() I just caught up with the episode tonight and was pleasantly surprised..really enjoyed it. Excellent supporting cast, and a lot more tongue-in-cheek humour. As others have said, Neil Dudgeon's Barnaby is a huge improvement on John Nettles. But to be fair, John Nettles didn't look in the best of health in the last series, he often appeared short of breath and seemed to have difficulty walking..is he ok ? |

Yes, it was like a "Drop the Dead Donkey" reunion.

For anyone interested, the Daily Mirror has an article and photos about Sykes in today's paper.

I like dogs, and some have that something special that you see on first sight, so much so that you want to take them home. Forget pedigrees and all that snobby nonsense, give me a lovable, full-of -character pooch any time.

Finally got round to watching this episode tonight - liked it again. I like the humour much better in this series. And I wonder is the "cartoon" ending going to feature in every episode - it is good fun - I was calling him "Indiana" by the end!! Will look forward to seeing if the casting is part of the joke in each episode too - it has been so far with the St Trinians girl as the ridiculously aged schoolgirl and the Drop the Dead Donkey reunion tonight. You just have to take the ridiculous holes in the plot as part of the fun too - as if Selina wouldn't have known her adored sister
Bet Edward Fox had a ball making that - he was brill as usual

The new Barnaby definitely has that look of David Comeron about him.
Must I add, it doesn't work. Bring back the old Barnaby. This new guy doesn't fit it right. |
