Its the first time I've seen the new MM and I think its really good. The old one had got a bit tired. I did think his wife seemed to have a very passive role and they could have used her a bit more. Has it been like that all along?

Blindingly obvious whodunnit

Did the landlord and landlady serve any purpose whatsoever plot-wise???

Not really, but you could argue that about all the other characters who weren't the killer or victims! I liked the fact that the big 'names' on the cast list - Pam Ferris, Kacey Ainsworth, Lee Boardman - were not the killer. You can usually bank on the biggest name being the killer.

No. The wife didn't actually appear until Dudgeon's second episode, and she was shown in that episode to be rather assertive. She just didn't get a huge amount of screen time last night. At least she's not a simpering wifey/psychotic evil genius like Joyce 'The Butcher' Barnaby.

In this episode, I found it very easy to work out "who dunnit" quite quickly.

Not always so when Barney Bee was in charge.

He always seemed to be sent some "divine information" in the last ten minutes of the episode totally unknown to the viewer.

The Peeping Tom Landlord did stop Jo becoming a victim of the murderer by raising the alarm. He also supplied Barnaby with some cup hooks.

Other than that they contributed nothing whatsoever.

How could it be blindingly obvious, unless there was some cast iron clue we missed, you just had a guess and been right, the writer(s) could have made anyone of them killer and then everyone who thought it was them from the start could say it blindingly obvious it was him/her

Slow build up, but it got more captivating as it went on. They certainly piled up the red herrings, with every character either having a thing about weddings, or some kind of bitter grudge about relationships/marriage.

I wondered if the lipstick writing was going to be a clue, because they used lowercase letter e in amongst the caps with the first murder, and other times not. Were there any more bloopers? I spotted one, when Barnaby said to Jo - "it's okay to go into the bathroom, we've removed the body" after we'd already seen Jo looking sadly out the window at them taking the bodybag out to the van.

"Call me picky" but given the message on the mirror was quite long and all in the same shade, wouldn't it have taken a fair few lipsticks to complete the message, given the consistency of lipsticks?

The landlord wasn't the peeping tom - the owner of the hardware shop was. The pub landlord was a nasty bit of work.

There is obviously some history there, him being an ex bobby. Im wondering if they will appear in future episodes to give Jones some grief.

Utter Garbage.

Drawn out and analytical ( dumbing down again).

Overly dark and graphc.

No real warmth.

No merry banter and self effacing humour.

This new one is just another detective series but branded under the Midsomer banner. It has no connection with Midsomer and the quintissential english village.

They could call it Frost, or Lewis, or Barnaby ........its NOT Midsomer any more.

Sorry but last nights episode was sh*te. They way they took the last 10 minutes to drag out a " sherlock Holmes style plot " was dull diumbing down.

Do the viewers of Midsomer like people to sit down with them and explain a joke to them after you have stopped laughing ? Most people do not like points being laboured.( Im self aware of my own irony on this posting )

Jolly Tom is TRUELY missed. This is just dreary.

I mightn't quite word it like this but I have to agree.

I do like the new Barnaby but this isn't MM.

The "warmth" isn't there anymore.

I started to watch this and was interrupted by one of my numerous kids throwing up. Husband watched it and told me it was garbage. Came here and read it was garbage. I evidently didn't miss much and I don't like the new Barnaby. He isn't as pleasant to his Sergeant either as the old Barnaby.

I spotted Stan too! Loved this episode, saw a bit more of Harvey/Spike too. Isn't it nice to watch MM without the irritating Joyce and Cully?

Eeeerm ......No

Never found them irritating ( but loved the theory that they were the murderers and Barnaby was covering for them.....well they were always at the scene of a murder LOL )

A trick dog is for Britains Got Talent ...not a quaint quintessential crime series which has turned into a cold charmless, predictible, over produced same old same old detective series.

Barnaby, Joyce and Cully were a family in a village, not a distant wife and a trick dog in a disorganised series of screen shots.

P.S. I did alert all my pals to Harvey in his ad which I thought cool, but now detracts from the originality of MM.

maybe i am weird. but i liked the old MM. and i like the new MM. I like that jones and the pathologist bloke 'george' have changed personalities a bit and are on their toes a bit, it would be like that in real life if a new boss swanned in.... everyone changes personalities a bit with new situations and new people. i am interested in Psychology so i like that the new barnaby has a degree and they are all a bit jealous or huffy or feel that they are being analysed. people always get a bit twitchy when you mention anything about psychology... and i like his wife looking bored out of her head eating her curry while he gave her a sweeping history of weird murders and murderers throughout history.... loads of funny bits in it. i keep saying bits i need a thausarus. and a dictionary i cant spell!!!
