I love Neil Dudgeon in the role. In my opinion he's breathed life into what had become a tired old series.

Hope we get lots more episodes, preferably quite soon.

I'm afraid that I wasn't a major JN fan either, although I liked the series enough to watch it on a regular basis. I love Neil Dudgeon's new character, and the fact that he is very easy on the eye helps! Admittedly I am a ND fan and love most of his work ... so I just have to say I like the new direction and the new Barnaby
So I take it you didn't grow up watching Bergerac?

My biggest problem with this new series is not any comparison of John Nettles vs Neil Dudgeon, but the fact that the scriptwriters seem to have completely mislaid about 90% of Jones' brains. In the previous series Jones was a good foil for his boss, but in this one he seems to have degenerated into the stupid side-kick who needs to have everything explained to him...

Looks like ITV could be about to commission Series 15 of Midsomer Murders. I knew Neil would nail it!

Judging by the 'BENTLEY LOC' and 'BENTLEY BASE' signs cable-tied to lamp posts that were in evidence around Beaconsfield area last week, there's a new episode being shot right now. Of course Bentley must do other things, but it's always been a good sign in the past.

What on earth's happened to the new series of Midsomer murders? I know they made way for the football on a Wednesday, but I've only seen about 3 episodes so far. Any more due back soon?

I think more people watch LOR than would admit to it. Ratings are always very good. It maybe crap to you but certainly not to me and not to the 4-5 million people that watch each series.

Obviously in an actors career not everything they do is going to be a run away success. You could pick a role for every actor in the world that wasn't popular. That doesn't make them a crap actor.

If it was that bad then the BBC wouldn't keep commissioning more series would they? Although as I have said in The Life of Riley thread having seen it filmed live the editing is bad because they take out alot of the bits that the audience really laughed at. It's alot more funny recorded live than the edited TV version. Annoying very!

But anyway back to MM......

Just how many cults have made their HQs in Midsomer? I've lost count the number of MM storylines that centre around some cult or other.

I'm surprised nobody's commented on his shower scene.

I believe its "despite " Neil , ( the comedy actor playing a detective in another run of the mill detective drama. )

I believe if you re watch tonight ...MIDSOMER is never mentioned.

ITS No longer Midsomer Murders ....sorry folks ...its just another detective drama.

I think that's why Mrs Barnaby gave a wistful look as her 'baby' was left at the dog walkers. Sykes is a child substitute.

Three out of the four nubarnabees have a climax where he is in peril. Will Jones be able to save the day again?

Oh I don't know, weird cult in a big house. I'm just surprised that Joyce didn't return as a member. She joined everything else.

Judging the last scene where Bullard complemented Barnaby the impression I got was that he was retiring, he mentioned Tom as well, and I also got the impression it was just a holiday, so does anyone know what the situation is ie is the actor leaving?
