Zzzzzz who watches this rubbish. Wish they'd put something exciting on. A few gun chases, car chases. Every dramas the same on ITV especially. Its cops/murders/police but safely done, no excitement ever happens.

But thats whats good about Midsomer murders. Every other detective show these days has guns, car chases, CSI/ forensics, horrific rape scenes, torture etc. and this one dosen't, so its different.

Sorry, I can't take Neil Dudgeon seriously in Midsomer. On tonights case I just didn't find him plausible when he suddenly came out with these leaps of deduction to solve the mystery. They should of killed the series when Bergerac retired!

I would have said it was the other way round the atmosphere void of central heating being replaced by a roaring warm pub fire.
I have it on very good authority that ITV will be commissioning another series of Midsomer so it's popularity is still clearly there so I suggest instead of flipping moaning about it you simply don't watch it. Anyone would think your being forced too.
Steady on! It was lacklustre, also any plot which requires 5 minutes of exposition is not a good one.
The ad breaks don't help any mystery thats chopped into 15 min chunks is going to suffer.

According to this Barry Jackson was going to quit but changed his mind he got the hump on because he wasn't featured enough in the show.
I find it amusing he thinks he's been moved upto third of course you third now there's no Joyce and Cully... he seems to think he's more than the show really needs.

Hubby and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The new Barnaby is like a breath of fresh air. We have watched MM sice the first episode and it was getting a bit tired in our opinion. Mind you, if they had got rid of Joyce and Cully, it would have improved the original no end. Can't say I'm sorry to see the back of George either

I've been saying that on various programme threads for ages. I can never, never understand why anyone watches a programme they don't like then posts on here that it's rubbish. Why not just turn off?
Anyway....I enjoyed it tonight. Jones seemed more like his old self, the story was interesting.
I like new Barnaby, but as a wife I preferred Joyce.
Sorry, but I'm not taking to this new Mrs B. She has no interesting hobbies. And I felt so sorry for poor Sykes being left with ultra strict dog-minding woman!

Seen them around this area too - and the pub last night was definitely in Long Crendon, I've been in it!
In my opinion, Joyce and Cully were included in the old series to make Nettle's character less one dimensional.
I guess the dog and the wife are for the same purpose with this one.
It's an enjoyable programme, though I've never thought they've handled a "new age" storyline without it looking a bit silly.
One in the previous series had a character wearing an obvious long haired wig and a gaudy striped robe, ludicrous.
I'm just wondering on what sort of course Jones had been. Was it a "Stupidity Consolidation Course?" as he's always unnecessarily portrayed as being a bit thick.

I could not agree more. It started to pall towards the end of the Tom Barnaby series and now seems to be in its final death throes. It has lost something and I am not sure what. I tried to watch the last one and gave up after half an hour, I find the new Barnaby extremely annoying and supercilious. Jones's personality seems to have changed completely and all the other characters are neither amusing or remotely interesting. Such a shame as I really used to look forward to Midsomer. I will not be watching again.

Exactly, if I want to watch a serious police drama I watch whatever BBC4 are showing on a Saturday night. MM on the other hand is a harmless piece of fun with no pretence of being anything else.
All this fuss about "the new Barnaby is rubbish" is just like what happens in the Doctor Who forums when he regenerates
Overall I thought it was a pretty poor episode. I still prefer the old repeats on ITV in the afternoon.

I agree that it was always useful as a bit of "chewing gum" for the eyes but I just cannot get lost in this series the same way I could in the previous ones.
I think its a shame.
Well I recorded it, partly because of The Apprentice and partly to skip the adverts.
After having watched the first ten minutes of this episode so far, I'm more and more inclined to skip the bits with Neil Dudgeon in. What did the lengthy, boring, scene of him walking the dog and meeting other dogs on the way (as you do) add to the plot? And then that business of meeting forensic chappie's sister.
Perhaps I'll go back and watch the rest, even if only to find out what the initial scene was all about - that's if I don't expire first of terminal boredom.
