Well I recorded it, partly because of The Apprentice and partly to skip the adverts.

After having watched the first ten minutes of this episode so far, I'm more and more inclined to skip the bits with Neil Dudgeon in. What did the lengthy, boring, scene of him walking the dog and meeting other dogs on the way (as you do) add to the plot? And then that business of meeting forensic chappie's sister.

Perhaps I'll go back and watch the rest, even if only to find out what the initial scene was all about - that's if I don't expire first of terminal boredom.
It's funny, I'd completely forgot about the opening scene until it reappeared at the end. When it was on, it seemed very Morse-like,with the music, and I promptly forgot all about it.

They're trying to establish Dudgeon's character as, "likeable."

John Nettles was popular with the viewers as he was perceived as "family man" with Cully and Joyce breezing in and out to reinforce the image, it helped too, to disguise his wooden acting.

Many people watch TV programmes as much to see people they like, as to watch the content of the programme.

Most noticeable of this fact are the "Who's your favourite presenter?" threads on here.

But this programme will be popular for a number of reasons, including the locations and the "if only we could all live such a wonderfully idylic country life" (give or take a few murders).

I also recorded it, it doesn't look like it is worth watching though

It is worth watching. Decent enough episode.

Is that the last episode this series?

I would have said it was the other way round the atmosphere void of central heating being replaced by a roaring warm pub fire.

I have it on very good authority that ITV will be commissioning another series of Midsomer so it's popularity is still clearly there so I suggest instead of flipping moaning about it you simply don't watch it. Anyone would think your being forced too.

Starting to run out of patience with MM now.

Silly side story about the dog, daft love interest for Jones.

Am I right, and George is being sidelined?. The final scene seemed to be hinting it, but this may be my "take" on it.

Maybe, (and this is only wild guessing) the producers are looking to do a shake up, and George is their first casualty?....

Read my post from last night (#434) and the link Barry Jackson said in an interview in March he was going to quit but changed his mind he felt he wasn't featured in the show enough.

This wasn't bad but I'd prefer another series of "Lewis" first.

Yes a discussion thread not a continous moaning 'like your being held at knife point to see every episode' thread!

If people don't like MM that's fine but personally if I didn't like something I wouldn't waste my time watching every episode and then slagging it off on a forum.

helpful hint: you each put the other in your Ignore list, that way you won't get to see each other's posts and can get on with your lives without having to be aware of posts that disagree with you.

From the FAQ:
Ignore lists are used for those people whose messages you wish not to read. By adding someone to your ignore list, those messages posted by these individuals will be hidden when you read a thread.

Have a brilliant day!

When is the next episode on?
According to imdb.com 8 August, but that's an ordinary Monday so they've obviously made a mistake as there wouldn't be space in the schedule.

ITS A DISCUSSION FORUM......

People watch thier favourite or any programme and discuss it ...good or bad.

Just because everyone is not extoling the virtues of your obsession does not a bad person make.

As for "why watch "?

What part of, I have been watching MM for years ," a great programme about midsomer " , which has now been transformed into "just another anonymous detective drama " do you not comprehend.

"Midsommer " was barely mentioned last episode.

How do I know ?

Coz i watched it.

Why did I watch it?

To see if it was going to be any good.

ergo

If I could see into the future and know i would not like it, i would , but until then I will have to watch it first ...then comment later .

It's often the same.

Many people post their opinions on programmes, be they think it good, or less so.

It's the ones who think a programme is "good" that often have a go at those who think otherwise. Rarely vice-versa.

If I criticise a programme for particular reasons, I don't mind if someone likes it for exactly the same reasons, why should it bother me, or anyone for that matter?

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but some think it their job to "protect" a programme they enjoyed.

Whatever has happened to this programme? I like ND and he is a much better actor than JN so was quite prepared to see him take over but the whole atmosphere of the programme has vanished. Where are the lovely old villages, the eccentric characters, the homely village pubs....does John Barnaby live in a different county to his cousin? I've stuck with it so far, mainly for Sykes I must admit, but it seems to have changed character completely. If Sykes was to go it wouldn't be worth watching any more.

I think they're trying to attract a younger audience, many of the viewers of the old "Barney Bee" series are "of a certain age" and many can remember when things in the countryside seemed more idylic.

Most networks have this "thing" about re-vamping a popular series and trying to focus on a younger age group. It's been happening for decades. Think about the changes thet made to "The Avengers."

Trouble is, they can "throw the baby out with the bathwater" in this way.

Since when has sticking up for your fave actor and show an obsession? I take massive offensive to being labelled obsessed. You don't know me and have no right to label me anything.

All the comments I have read from you have been negative so the natural thought is why continue to watch a show you don't like? Other posts have agreed it's not just me.

Not sure how I feel about last weeks episode yet. It was good but nowhere near as good as EOTD. The acting from all actors was very good so I think for me it was the writing that wasn't great in this epsiode There was no suspense at the end like there was in EOTD. I was waiting for it and it never came.

Probably the best one of the new ones, possibly due to there being a lot of Jones, although too much Sykes for my liking. I'm now sat watching Vixens Run with John Nettles, it's infinitely better than the new episodes. The new ones don't require much brain power, the old ones did. As mentioned above, the newer one's are no different to any other detective programs now. The older ones had the dry humour, twee countryside and detailed plots.

To be fair as I've mentioned before, on Midsomer threads, the cases were solved because Barney Bee had access to information that had neither we, nor other members of the cast. Usually revealed within a few minutes of the conclusion of each episode.
It was none the worse for that.
