Let's be frank, the reason why this show still exists is because of the international market. If I'm not mistaken, there are few countries around the world who have actually seen the 'new' Barnaby yet, so I guess the future of the show is still undecided.
John Nettles actually wanted to leave after Series 10, but was persuaded (money?) by the producers to go on a little longer. Funnily enough the ratings went way downhill since that series, so perhaps they should have just realized that the series had run its course back then and focus on one final special to end the series. Instead, they just kept dragging it on, producing weak and boring scripts, making it more unwatchable year after year. The show has become a shadow of what it used to be, and both the producers and writers are to blame for this. Even a fine actor like Neil Dudgeon can't save a sinking ship. |

I also have to admit that I haven't read all the pages on this thread but I agree with DocMartinLover, Neil is a fine actor and also he's a decent bloke. Sadly I think he hasn't had the best storylines since taking on the part of John Barnaby. The writing on this new series has been a bit disappointing ...
I'll hold my hands up and say that I am a ND fan and will stick with it through the rough and the smooth. MM is like a national tradition and one that I'd like to see continue! Lilsaz, that was nice of Neil to agree to this!

Looking forward to tonights episode.
Unlike many who think Jones has become dumb - I find at least he is used more since Neil took over. Back in the Nettles era he was up and down like a spare part with little to say. At least that's how I saw it. |

I must have missed the episode in the new series where Jones had his lobotomy.

3o minutes in and im cringing at the dreadful acting . the timing is spaced and stillted.
The scene where he tasted the honey was .....poor. Seems like he is talking to someone in another world The rest seem to be gelling together. Not really getting a good vibe from this series. still it may improve over the next 90 minutes.

If Jones wanted to check where the photo copying came from, shouldn't he have given her a blank sheet? The sheet she did the copying on should show the ink stain in the top left hand corner.

Not the best episode by a long shot. But watchable.
The murderer isn't obvious in this. Though everything is completely unrealistic. |

Is this The Wickerman?
At least the others had a grasp on reality with a sinister tone, this is just absurd. |
