A totally ridiculous episode and fo what it's worth I must admit to quite enjoying it. Jones was better this time.

I still prefer the older series though
That is certainly true, in the earlier episodes of this series he was only half a step step above the village idot at times. I suppose it was to show us that new Barnaby was a clever chap but holy smoke they made him out to be a complete dolt.

Glad to see he's being allowed to have some credibilty, now.

I really enjoyed it, I found it hilarious escapism.

This is the only series of Midsommers that I have watched and enjoyed every episode from beginning to end. I'm certainly not missing the wooden acting of John Nettles & co.
I agree that it was a very enjoyable episode.

As for all the people who found it too far fetched, what on earth are they talking about? Every single episode of MM has been set in a place bearing no resemblance at all to anywhere on earth; populated by characters who you will never find anywhere; with murder investigations unlike any that has ever happened on this planet.

To criticise an episode of MM for lack of realism is crazy.

Ha! You wouldn't say that if you'd spent 25 years living in a deeply rural Wiltshire village...

Not one episode has ever stretched reality that much. It was patherically unrealistic. The whole stag thing was apparently men can go and rape girls and it's fine.

oi! I can assure you that my Am-Dram group is better than the shite this has become.
Sorry did not mean to diss any Am Dram societies.

Quite the reverse.

MM last night was a masterclass in what not to do in every aspect of a production.

PLease can your AM Dram group get together and take over this abismal new MM and rid us of Neil "DRUDGE" ON and his " I will make a statement to camera " style of non integration with the cast school of acting.

I miss Cully , Joyce and the Barneby sub plot of his family and the warmth of everyone. Midsummer a quaint peaceful place to be yet juxtposed the endless murders, intrigueing back stories and charmimg humour.

This is just soulless drivel cut n pasted from MM samples to produce a "factory manufactured" programme.

You can put together all the key ingredients ....but it still is missing the essence of the recipe.

I agree entirely. What has the new Barnaby's wife added to the storys so far? absolutely nothing. The dog has contributed more and, to be truthful, he hasn't done much other than look sorry for himself. Perhaps he's regretting being part of the cast.

Don't worry I wasn't really I forgot to add a besides some do actually deserve the reputation they have.
Anywhoooo... interesting idea... we actually do Musical Theatre (donchaknow!) rather than drama but I reckon a musical version of MM would breathe new life into the series
BIB is spot on.. all the right bits but somehow the finished product just hasn't come out right. 'tis a shame TBH.
In fairness I don't really think its the fault of the actors, they can only really play it the way they're directed... directors are not known for allowing the actors free rein and they can only use the script they're given.
No, the blame falls squarely on the shoulders of the production team.
I didn't actually watch this episode (it was on the TV in the background tho') but it sounds like a hoot. Perhaps if we stop thinking of it as MM we'll enjoy it more?

There's blossom on the branches, it's the first week in May, and yet they have boxes and boxes of "our apples" - and all looking very fresh considering they must have been sitting round since the previous autumn.

If stored properly they can do.

I have found that in the last 2 series the clues aren't really there for the viewer to solve the mystery. This is probably because the writing isn't as good. It tends to meander along then they suddenly solve it and the reasons aren't believable. Perhaps people will say that this has always been the case though.

No it's not the case. In other series there were clubs, not always obvious but there.

Though I did by already guess it was Warren Clark, but that was purely on process of elimination and not any set clues.

Bump - I thought someone would've already done so. Have DS Midsomer fans deserted the show?

I thought tonights 'A Sacred Trust' was like the MM of old. A very enjoyable episode that was well written, acted and directed.

It was better than the last one, but it wasn't very interesting.

The relationship between Jones and John Barnaby is more engaging than the one between Jones and Tom Barnaby. BTW - I love MM old and new.

Not for me. I much preferred Tom/Jones dynamic. I find John a bit of a sarcastic git.

Good grief - so I missed a great deal - when I switched over (for David Attenborough..) the father was simply slightly irritated at having a teenager son. Apologies to other posters - but, briefly, why did he kill the nun (and the proest) ?

A big improvement on the last episode. The Africa connection was a bit obscure and came out of the blue, as a previous poster said the clues are not really there for the viewer to solve. Now if we could actually have an episode with no religion at all in it that would be even better.
