I enjoyed it and I'm glad they're showing what, 3 episodes in a row. Usually the show is given to us in dribs and drabs over the course of the year.

Goodness, I can't say how much I enjoyed this.
I have never really watched Midsomer before - caught the odd episode but it never really grabbed me. But this I really enjoyed. It was just really entertaining. A good old-fashioned whodunnit with nice settings and an engaging detective duo plus lots of red herrings and dodgy dealings..... Great to see top actors such as Harriet Walter, Sinead Cusack and Henry Goodman. And Neil Dudgeon was having a whale of time. I liked the humour and the interplay between the characters. The denouement wasn't great but isn't that often the case with whodunnits? This made me want to tune in to the following two stories. Excellent.

Mm
I usually enjoy and laugh along with MM and Neil D is fine. However last night's was drivel and what a waste of fine actors. How on earth did they keep straight faces!! Come on Itv a tad more reality but not too much!

I do miss dear old Cully, driving a mobile library, bringing yet another boyfriend home, getting a small part in the local dramatic club etc , etc. As much as I liked Joyce I have to admit that the new Mrs B is quite hot.
And I can't help wondering that the real life Cully is a very similar character to the one she played in MM |

I have watched MM from the beginning, enjoyed some eps but found it a bit hit and miss TBH, not always getting in to some of the stories BUT have to say I LOVE the chemistry and banter between ND and BJ far better than JN and BJ IMO. I always thought JN worked better with Troy (can't remember his real name) back in the day and had great chemistry with him. Also thought JN was getting tired towards the end of his run. Anyway let the 'good times roll' with Barnaby 2 and Jones

One of the best Midsomer Murders ever certainly the best since Neil took over the tension was amazing throughout after last week's dull, boring episode this was definitely a return the good old days of murder mystery and suspense.

I wonder that too. Although she was a recognisable character in MM, she dosen't seem to have made it big in any other roles or in films?

I really enjoyed tonight's show. I think it was telegraphed to us about 25 minutes into the show who the culprit was (it may be predictably, but I thoroughly love it when my hunches pay off).
I really love Sykes! That dog should be on BGT! He's far more entertaining than Pudsey! |

I really enjoyed tonight's episode - and, more to the point, I GOT THE MURDERER RIGHT!

I wish they had some kids though. I guess having really young kids when there are loads of murders going on locally, would not be great for the plotline. But maybe they could have a teenager or two or even one in their 20s. I don't know how old Barnaby is meant to be?

The acting in this was quite competent, particularly the primary female characters, pity the plot didn't live up to it.
Jones once more was reduced to "village idiot" status. When he was locked in the cellar, he passed a fire alarm point. If he'd smashed the glass on that, the alarm would have gone off and the location of source of the alarm being raised, would have been shown on an indicator board where relevant personnel would notice it and an immediate response would have been forthcoming as it was a hospital. As a police officer he should have been aware of that. A word of praise for the writer of the theme and the background music, Jim Parker. The theme has passed the test of time and the background music is used sparingly and is unobtrusive. Poor old Jim doesn't even get a mention. Not so Barrington Pheloung, who's responsible for the monotonous noodling dirges that never seem to cease in Lewis. He's mentioned even in the opening naffin' credits. Once again, Sykes upstaged everyone. |

Going against the grain here, but I thought the ending of that was a complete pile of smelly stuff - although my opinion might also be slightly down to the fact I was really tired last night and it was an effort to stay awake.
I don't watch MM for gritty stuff obviously, but there was just so much that had me going 'WTF' near the end (Finn in captivity and darkness for year and only suffering a dodgy hairdo and loosing all the buttons on his shirt for a start) that I felt very |

Last night's ending was ridiculous and have to agree that the half caste boy looked rather well for someone been chained in a cellar for a year.....looks like we're going to get at least one non white character an episode to please the pc brigade.

Wasn't the house where the girl lived the same house that was in an episode of Lewis last year?
I'm sure that entrance to the house via a bridge over a river was familiar. |

I may have drifted off during last night's episode (or perhaps I'm just being a bit dim), but was it explained why the two people were bumped off?

Cully should have her own show - set in a surreal Midsomer village or town and all about her attempts at finding lurrrve and getting on as an actor perhaps doing a bit of sleuthing on the side. Sykes could be in it, too.

Still cant get past ND pausing , striking a facial pose , then saying his lines all the time.
He just doesnt seem to connect with the rest of the cast. Everyone else is conversational, ND......seems to walk in..... pause , look ponderously and STATE a line. ( which on reflection always seems to be his line ... a statement . ) He either doesnt act or over acts ( his facial expressions are priceless) Sorry but I can see behind the mask Last night was an odd one, but spoilt by another guest star appearance giving the game away. By the time It got to the Jones in the hospital scene and with 20 minutes to go and ND in a stand off .....I turned over. Way to over the top. Really miss the old MM self parody not so serious warmth. This has strayed into Lewis , Morse territory and taking itself waaay to seriously. See Sykes was giving a nod to his advert role with friend.
