There was a house with a bridge in Lewis but it was a much bigger house and bridge.

I thought this too, I have definitely seen the house in another programme.

The dog is ace, the whole point of his wife and the the dog is to provide a light hearted moment between the main story. If you don't like the dog, woof woof.

The actual story/characters etc was crap this week though. Chess moves left on victims, you couldn't make it up.

They've always used him to various degrees as the "thicko" policeman to make both Barney Bees look more intelligent.

I see that he's off to "pastures new" err.. do I understand that's the same character in a pilot season in the USA?

Have any of those who played the sergeant gone on to "greater things?"

This is a real opportunity to dispel the accusations of racism that have dogged the show - wonder if we'll have a hyper-intelligent Asian woman as the next sergeant with parents that were disappointed she never became a doctor or a burly black man with an eye for the ladies (anyone notice that two shows in a row the young black guy was known for his exploits with women?).

When he goes the programme will go to the dogs.

Oh, it has already started.

The appeal of this show is the "rose tinted glasses effect" as it mostly reflects the country as we'd like to see it.
Dragging it any further into the 21st century, with more PC content, might be perceived to harm the ratings.

I think "ethnicity" is well represented in other TV detective programmes.

Possibly but it depends on who replaces him

You've missed out the Eastern Europeans and the Daily Mail readers?

Presumably you are not interested in the 25 or so Guardian readers. There again, are they actually representative of anyone or anything in real life?

Even more so in this series.

I really love Jonesy and will miss him. sometimes he has all the right moves but sadly he doesn't get them in the right order. I would like him to leave with a lovely lady on his arm. Perhaps the one he had a bit of a fling with but then put the job first. Bless him he is so sweet

I think he is referring to the season in the USA when they do pilots for prospective series, so I assume he will try and get a part or already has a part in one of them.

There is a Miss Marple drama on north of the border.

(STV don't the rights to ITV's FA Cup coverage)

I'll miss Jones. I thought his character if better written had some potential - maybe even to carry the series on like Lewis.

The sidekicks in MM have never had their own "life" outside the job, it's always been about the main man. I know some writers gave Jones a girl friend (the fit fire fighting one, what happened to her?)

I do hope they don't just drop him like DS Scott.

The PC content is very low. Barnaby & Jones seem to solve everything themselves.

That has to be one of the worst exits ever.

In "The House in the Woods", Barnaby describes Scott as having called him to say he was ill and thus unable to come to work. Barnaby invites Ben Jones to assist him on that case. After this incident, no more is heard from Scott, and Jones becomes the new deputy.

On the subject of exits, what happened to Constable Gail Stephens?
