I'll miss Jones. I thought his character if better written had some potential - maybe even to carry the series on like Lewis.

The sidekicks in MM have never had their own "life" outside the job, it's always been about the main man. I know some writers gave Jones a girl friend (the fit fire fighting one, what happened to her?)

I do hope they don't just drop him like DS Scott.
Must admit I thought they were grooming him to replace Tom ,not as dopey as Troy often quite insightful. I thought they might have had him marry Cully then decide to adopt the Barnaby surname to keep it going (and thus satisfy the French name of the show Inspectuer Barnaby). Since the new Barnaby though he changed into the mainly incompetent buffoon,

That has to be one of the worst exits ever.

In "The House in the Woods", Barnaby describes Scott as having called him to say he was ill and thus unable to come to work. Barnaby invites Ben Jones to assist him on that case. After this incident, no more is heard from Scott, and Jones becomes the new deputy.

On the subject of exits, what happened to Constable Gail Stephens?
Not a good exit for Scott (Very different to Troy, quite liked him). As to Gail Stephens, i thought she was quite a good addition and as you say suddenly disappeared.

And yet again tonight, Midsomer is replaced with football

I have to admit - even that accursed mongrel would be more entertaining than football.

Indeed, is football intended to be entertaining at all?

Sad news. Jones is my favourite character in the show

Although I know he has had some 'off' episodes lately - the most memorable was that first episode after John Nettles left where Jones kicked that suspect in a block of flats somewhere - I thought I was watching 'The Bill' all of a sudden

It will be interesting to see how the show moves forward because Jones is the only character that links the show to the 'Tom' years. There's no George now, no Cully or Joyce.

I really hope they don't change the show too much because the relationship between the DCI and the younger deputy has always been good imo.

Bump up for tonight's Midsomer and Jones' finale... how do you think he will go? Definietly won't be murdered...then again you never know it is Midsomer after all.

Am looking forward to this - am just in the right mood for slouching in front of the telly for a couple of hours.

I hope they don't kill him off

Lol.

The starey eyed corpse.

Big role for McCutcheon though, killed off in 60 seconds.

Favourite Jones episode?

Joyce asking Ben to join the local choir after hearing him singing in the shower was a memorable one

Dudgeon ....PLEASE

stop ...Pausing ...after the other person speaks , pulling an odd expression and then delivering a unconnected unflowing statement .

other person speaks......Pause ....look away ...statement.

other person speaks...pause ...look away .....statement.

FFS

hes sh*t.

totally disconnected from cast, no flow and no atmosphere

Well, there's nothing about Jones and possibly leaving to do other things (like getting a job as Inspector) so I'm thinking he might be for the chop
