Last night's episode was rubbish. Les Dennis was just miss-casted.

Despite being set at Christmas, last night's episode was clearly filmed in the height of summer. Despite there being a filter on the camera, you tell by the amount of light in all the external scenes, and the obvious lack of any cold.

I've noticed exactly the same, but I loved the episode nonetheless. |

Normally MM episodes are brilliantly lit, but the latest episode was spoilt by the dull picture throughout, presumably achieved with a blue filter on the camera lens. I found it distracting: it is a practice that is spoiling many programmes, including the latest series of Foyle's War. If they don't want colour they might as well make the shows in black and white!

It was just about OK... I guessed the killer in the first five minutes and I was not disappointed!
Agree with the previous posters, it was filmed in the summer quite obvious from the trees and amount of light. New Sarge a bit awkward so far but that will hopefully iron itself out in the future. |

Loved it and now really looking forward to the new series. Even our puppy Betty enjoyed it every time Sykes barked or moved she went nuts trying to get into the TV
Was quite entertaining.

I thought Barnaby was a bit old to be having a baby, surely he would have a string of kids by now. The new sgt looks a scruff.

I guess this was another pathetic attempt to add more "atmosphere" to a drama, in this case because of the storyline. It's used so often unnecessarily, that it becomes both obvious and irritating. You can imagine the conversation between the director and the producer. "This looks dog rough." "Try a blue or green filter." |

Unfortunately the Woman who plays his wife got herself knocked up after a one night fling...tut tut missus, so I suppose they were forced into this, as the schedules are usually planned well in advance
![]() I've tried and tried to get into MM without Tom and his family but I just can't! I don't mind Neil Dudgeon but I just can't get into him in this programme. And funnily enough I was thinking earlier that he must be around the same age as Tom was in his early years yet he's about to have a baby, while Cully was about 18 when the show started. And for some reason, that jars with me. |

Oh, the irony of atheist John Barnaby putting an angel on the top of the Christmas tree at the end. That was very awkward. Re-watch episodes like "Death in the Slow Lane" and you'll see that he's vocal about not believing in God, so it was a tad ironic how he and his wife went for all the bells and whistles with their Christmas in this episode.
Still glad to have another Christmas episode though. I had very mixed feelings about the previous one with Jones ("Days of Misrule") and the one with Scott was the better of those two ("Ghosts of Christmas Past") but still had some slow bits. If nothing else, this one had Sykes. And I really like Charlie Nelson so far - I hope there'll be more on his slightly nervous side in future episodes.

Yes - a very boring episode. They all acted as if on auto-pilot with no real feeling or interest, just as long as the pay check came in at the end of the month. |

I got round to watching this last night....
This is one of those shows that I *really* want to like but I just find it very tedious since the new team took over.... sadly this episode was no different, I found that by the second ad break, I really didn't care who was killed, who was going to be killed and who was killing them. I found myself playing with my mobey rather than paying attention. Another poor effort.

He was only doing what thousands of other non-believers and non-Christians do at this time of year. Don't see what the problem is - what did Tom Barnaby have to top his tree?
I was only pointing out the obvious religious symbolism of the angel on the Christmas tree, something which I thought atheists and non-believers didn't buy into - so it was a bit rich to see John with the angel. It's a bit like a Christian having a buddha statue in their front room. But I'm not at all saying that non-believers can't enjoy the season too, like we saw at the end of this episode. I hope you didn't think I meant that. |

I dislike the entire cast now...Jones was the only character I could stand. Not worth watching at all now, for me.

I assumed I'd be buying the new Barnaby episodes as well, seeing as it's the same programme. But I won't cos it's not. Bring back Tom, Joyce and Cully! |

Add me to the list too! Just not the same, the humour is different/lacking
A absolutely love dogs, but that dog just riles me, cos it's so out of place. It's like Barbaby's home life is a comedy plot, cos of the dog. I was a late viewer to MM. I didn't start watching til Tom's 8th series, I think it was, but I loved it instantly so I bought all the back series'! I still love watching the old ones, and I'd certainly sooner watch one of those than these new ones. |
