can you believe jone a det sgt would think it was a suicide & not have the area cordoned off til it was no longer a crime scene of some sort & for the mother & here aged daughter (clara paget aged 25 in real life from what i can find) to be able to clean the car is a joke....very poor episode
I was convinced from her looks that she must be related to Simon or Sophie Ward, but it turns out that she's the daughter of the Earl of Uxbridge!… http://www.thepeerage.com/p5563.htm… http://www.thenotebookmagazine.com/i...olgirls-aloud/ |

Re: the car in the barn at the start. I thought the hay bales looked remarkably fresh for not having been moved for 45 years!

Why are the two schoolgirls Welsh, and I think the debt collector sounded a bit Welsh as does Jones. I thought this was in Berkshire.

Really didn't enjoy that. Why was David Cameron playing DI Barnaby?
Such poor acting all round, a rotten story, and none of the feel of previous series at all. Bring back Scott - at least he was pleasant to look at. However, I wouldn't agree witht hte bad acting thing... Not a great storyline, but good bits of humour, it will be good I guess!!!! |

I thought it was a poor episode to start with. At least it can only get better. No doubt John Nettles is pleased he didn't take part in it.
How come Jones has had a complete makeover? Expert on old cars, knows the whole world and his dog. Finally, what's happened to DC Gail Stephens? |

Why is it that whichever Barney Bee it is and whoever their assistant may be, the latter always has to be written as being a bit stupid on occasions?
Jones was supposed to be involved in the restoration of a racing car. Why did he not realise as any viewer would, the difficulty in turning over the engine of a car with the starting handle when it was in gear, even with the plugs out? I mean, how many dozen times over the years has the film "Ice Cold in Alex" been shown on TV? |

I don't think Neil Dudgeon looks like David Cameron but then I don't think Cameron is "an ugly bugger" neither do I think Dudgeon is particularly gorgeous. lilsaz's obsession with "Dudge" is a bit scary LOL.

I am a massive MM fan so was really looking forward to last nights episode. For me it was a bit hit and miss but overall I am feeling positive on the basis that last nights episode was mainly scene setting for future episodes.
1) Why use Windsor for town shots. Half the world recognises the castle - of course it wasn't Caulston 2) Jones character - was very odd but willing to see what happens there - old DS Scott used to be a bit handy with his fists to there is a precedent for this in MM. 3) Blond bint - waaay to old to be a school girl 4) 2 welsh girls - annoyed me at first but quiet liked them by the end. 5) Story line - weak but not unusual for MM 6) New Barnaby and dog - bloody brilliant - loved them both. looking forward to next weeks. |

Enjoyed this. Wasn't a big Midsomer fan before - watched some of them, but I felt they never got the balance right before - when they tried to be funny they missed by a mile and it was neither serious enough to be enjoyable or funny enough to be, well, funny.
This however I thought got it spot on if you take it as a jolly hockey (or lacrosse!) sticks self-parodying "caper". I thought Neil Dudgeon was great with his reception of the locals, and his dry wit. I was probably at an advantage in that I didn't really know what the Jones character was like previously. The funniest scene for me was the corpse being carried away with the starting handle still sticking in it - hilarious ![]() Didn't realise the schoolgirl was in the St Trinian's film - if I had I would have taken that as another deliberate joke too. And the "dangly" bit at the end was as someone else has said pure cartoon - but it worked in that sense. Kept waiting to be told that the solicitor was another child of the deceased - thought he looked so like him that I wondered if it was the same actor and was waiting for this to be another subplot, but seemingly not. Only one thing annoyed me though - the absolute star of the show didn't even get a credit at the end. Why????? Harvey/Sykes/whoever did steal the whole thing - maybe he'll be the new producer of the next series

Loved Harvey practically drooling at the lemon drizzle cake that Barnaby was cutting for him!

I've been be a fan of Neil for 17 years and waited all that time to see him in a decent lead role that he so rightly deserves. In my excitement I may go over the top but I am happy for him that is all.

In the last episode that John Nettles appeared in, right at the end when the phone went and John Barnaby was called away to a case (vicar hanged himself in Badger's Drift) Jones, George and the WPC went off with him so they had already worked together. In last night's episode we were meant to believe it was the first time.

Didn't mean to offend. I also think he's a great actor, it was just the way you kept on gushing about him in your posts. Maybe I should substitute the word "scary" for "amusing". He was very good in last night's episode, to me he is a much better actor than John Nettles.
