Poor Joyce we all know she was Britain's answer to Jessica Fletcher and was an accessory in all the murders herself, maybe she could be brought back for a one off episode when Tom and her go on a killing spree across Midsomer and near the end of the episode she shows her true colours and starts screaming, shouting and throwing things and they string her up at the end of the episode for being an accessory to all 250 murders. Tom and Cully as accessories to her crimes and they have the first British execution for 50 years on a village green with Morris Dancers and a cricket match.

Sykes should have a spin-off series.

I've never watched Midsomer Murders, but my friend that gives me a lift to work in the morning does and let's put it this way, Harvey 1 Everything Else 0.

I enjoyed it. Especially as there was no Joyce or Cully - although I do miss Cully's husband!

I like it. Especially the dog
![]() From my perspective....BTM has tried to maintain the philosophy whilst at the same time changing the "Barnaby" role. Looks like the new Barnaby is going to solve all the cases in the background whilst Jones does the legwork and gets it wrong. I think the point of that was that Jones was supposed to be showing Barnaby the ropes and was allowed to take the lead whilst Barnaby was adjusting to the place. Barnaby took over when Jones clearly couldn't cope very well. I doubt that'll be the case in any future episodes. |

No, I meant more like Rep, or a sketch show. A small group of actors playing different roles each week. We already accept such as Samantha Bond reappearing in different roles. Why not have her, and a core of other popular actors, in every episode? The Rainbird son (Richard Cant?) could come back. Some weeks they'd be victims, some weeks they'd be the killer and some weeks they'd just be a suspect. Regardless of which role, they'd of course be very eccentric and heavily involved in adultery, blackmail or whatever the 'sin of the week' was. I expect that a lot of viewers could accept this and quite enjoy the joke. It could even be a Unique Selling Point for the series. How do I go about pitching this?

Not so unique as something similar happened in this series
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Nero_Wolfe_Mystery I've only ever seen a handful of Nero Wolfes, but never realised that the same actors kept re-appearing. |

Someone else here that hopes Jones goes back to being Jones. A cross between a bumbling Troy and a hard man Scott is how he came across, totally out of character, so I hope it's just for the introduction episode. Also the "Town" shots of Windsor seemed strange, although there were some of Thame too. Episode was not one of the best plot wise either. but I'm happy to stick with it, as I'm sure it will improve through familiarity, let's hope it's tongue will continue to push into it's cheek and not out at us though.

Never been a big fan of Midsummer Murders, but from watching a few over the past year or so, I've taken a liking to them, so will be strange not to see John Nettles at the helm, but the advert for the new Barnaby and his family looks good, so I shall be tuning in. Loving the dog already!

I hope that was just a joke. Nothing wrong with depicting an English Village for what it actually is in most villages. If the PC brigade don't like it then watch something else and get a life

Anyone notice that the cute dog is the same dog that's in the 'Introducing Harvey' advert?

Yes it was pointed out to me and it must be Harvey, he 's done really well since he left the dogs home.

Harvey was absolutely the best thing in it!
Total star! ![]() ![]() I absolutely loved Harvey, or didn't I hear him called Clive or Clyde ? Not sure which........By the way he is Black and white ![]() does that count ?No doubt when the current producer bows out at the end of this season we will get an influx of foreign faces, perhaps just to be extra P.C.the new chief inspector of the nick will be black or Asian, seems to be a favourite theme on TV nowadays, (as well as real life). I'll enjoy it until then.

I like Neil Dudgeon. He seems a lot more competent than Nettles ever did. I stopped watching ages ago but now it's like a breath of fresh air. Love the dog also. Sykes?

Why is it that whichever Barney Bee it is and whoever their assistant may be, the latter always has to be written as being a bit stupid on occasions?
Jones was supposed to be involved in the restoration of a racing car. Why did he not realise as any viewer would, the difficulty in turning over the engine of a car with the starting handle when it was in gear, even with the plugs out? I mean, how many dozen times over the years has the film "Ice Cold in Alex" been shown on TV? |

On the car front. You would retard the ignition to start the engine not advance it as was stated in the programme (twice)

Its lost all its humour,
lost its self effacing charm. No village. The calm serenity of John Nettles and his "fatherly " mentor rapport with his sergeants. Basically it has lost its light hearted Cosy Family village feel. Its now just another detective series where (it appears ) without a dog, is characterless

Sykes stole the show for me....
Frankly, I would have taken the departure of John Nettles as an excuse to freshen up the hired help, and promote the ever helpful PC Stevens, instead of trying to make ole Jones look like a tough guy. And are we that bereft of actresses in the UK, that Samantha Bond had to be dragged back again?. |

The one thing that ruined the whole episode for me was being expected to believe that Clara Paget (unsure of date of birth but clearly in her twenties) was a schoolgirl. Even if she was meant to be 18 was stretching it! |

I quite like the new Mrs Barnaby. It looks like they could be a fun pair of characters.
