I think this is more "afternoon telly" as was "The Coroner," and "Dr. Blake."
The plot was ludicrous, as if the MOD would have held on to a village in a rural area surrounded by all the other "Midsomers," for seventy years. The strategically placed ammunition boxes and jerry cans reminded me of the props used in Strictly Come Dancing. Still it was harmless entertainment,...of a sort. Neil Dudgeon should get back to chauffeuring, the limit of his acting capabilities. Still, there are 13 series of Tom and family to watch when I feel like watching a MM! |

Because they're there? Why would you go to all the trouble of getting a whole load of different extras for every episode when they're going to go unnoticed and unremarked upon. It's entirely normal for extras to appear in several episodes of something not least because scenes are often shot out of sequence not just within an episode but across a series. If you're shooting a particular location you get it all out of the way in one session. You don't keep popping back. So you use the extras you've got on the day. A friend of mine from Oxford student days appears in 3 different episodes of Morse, for example, out of a single day's shooting.
My son is a movie actor, and I worked as an extra on many films back in my days. But I did not know about the use of extras in series. |

Sadly, the series continues to disappoint. Keep watching every new episode in the increasingly vain hope that things will improve but ....
Dudgeon is still a very effective remedy for insomnia, works every time. Still the pointless and irrelevant inclusion of a pointless canine. And, worse, allowing very young children and animals to get so close. Are they desperate to fill time or to cover up the paucity of the acting and weakness of the storyline? For me, like others on here, "old" Barnaby is still the best. |

Maybe you weren't concentrated enough when watching and reading, but Paddy is the dog. He did not go to school, that is correct. But he also did not attend the police course.
That course was strictly non-canine. Woof! On the other question you asked about Dogs around small children. I thought the same and i am a dog lover. When first introducing a strange dog that you don't now how they will behave. So i would have done it differently. When my nephew plays with my dog he is ten i am always with them. |

I love the ludicrous nature of MM and therefore still love it, as it's got even more ludicrous IMO. I'm also probably in the minority in liking ND's Barnaby too lol

I used to love MM, it was so quintessentially eccentric, with shades of marple and old fashioned whodunnits.
This new series, seems to be trying far too hard to be modern and politically correct, shoehorning in characters just for the sake of it, and storylines which just do not fit with the original concept. |

I liked this better when it included Joyce and Cully,
"The two best actors, with opportunities for rise taking, for their unnecessary inclusion in the plots " |

A few people get killed, lots of people get suspected, Barnaby nabs the culprit. Where and how has the storyline deviated from that?

I'm probably putting my foot in it, but they seem to have quite a lot of people from ethnic minorities for such a remote village !

He also reminds me of a young Tom Hanks.Wherever they film this it is beautiful. |

I loved MM with John Nettles (bought the 13 series he did on DVD) but I just can't get into it with ND. I start watching an episode, but I can never make it through to the end! So I don't bother watching at all now.

I watched the first five minutes of this and then said to myself, "I can't....... I really can't" and deleted my recording.
