Not just the review - the product has gone again...
Ha ha you're right, it was there a few minutes ago when I searched the product on the site, a panic in the backroom?

>If it had found an alternate showing one still would not want it to record half an episode.
Indeed

>All it seems to offer is to delete both or all three of the programs that cause the clash.

>This dialogue box does not scroll the text so you cannot see the names of all the programs it will delete.

I think this is dialog box shall be completely redesigned.

>My other planned non series link recordings are still on the box this morning so not sure when they vanish. Perhaps the channel line-up change?
No clue at all. If it happens, please let me know the details.

Ok, mine has arrived and in the first few minutes had several problems already. When setting up choosing screen res just turns the picture to a digital snowstorm, changing TV input and then back again sorts it out, no audio at all via hdmi to TV or amp, had to use optical. No Dolby Digital until I turned off audio description which was on by default. Not done much else yet. I have a Philips plasma and a Sony STR-DA2400ES amp

Yes, same problem with my Sony amp and perhaps any other Amp.

If you set on the AMP HDMI sound output to TV to on I bet it will work.

You then have to turn the TV volume down.

This mornings "The Saint" on ITV 4 had the end cut off and I have had my first playback issue.

On CBS Drama after using the Jump x 1 minute four times I got normal sound but the picture was like a series of stills and 16:9 rather than 4:3.

Stop and resume fixed.

Yes that worked, I don't use the TV sound anyway but it was just an observation.

So far what I do like is that box is quite responsive and not too sluggish, also the SD picture quality is miles better than my Sky+HD box and it's also nice to get 4:3 pillar box mode again.

Welcome to the bug club

None of my other devices has that HDMI audio issue so it would seem it is just another thing that they got wrong and failed to test.

How about something positive about this box?

I really like how when watching a recording and it comes to the end a message pops up asking if you want to delete. So simple and handy, in fact this box handles deleting in general so much better than the HDR.

Neither do any of mine, the Sky box, BD player and Revo (for XBMC) have no audio issues over hdmi (or digital snowstorm)

I expected there to be bugs but from what you have discovered so far this is an unfinished product. I have put in a couple of recordings to start at 11am, one on BBC1 HD and another on channel 5, I just want to see if I get the BBC1 NI feature

There are lots of cool things about this box - which is what makes it such a shame its such a mess.

I'm still using the Sky HD until it expires, so no feeds in apart from for playing, but we watched something on the media player side last night - 720p content (30fps I think) and it gradually lost lip sync until about 5 mins when the sound started breaking up - and then 30 seconds later lip sync was ok again.

Happened every 5-10 mins or so - as if the audio was either ahead of the picture, or wasn't keeping up.

Similar to the playback issues on recordings I guess?

Just noticed that since changing the amp settings, I have audio through both amp and TV but there is no Dolby Digital from the HD channels sent to the amp only Linear PCM, I have had to go back to optical to get DD.

Is it possible that, since this Samsung box and the Echostar have been released at about the same time, it may have been rushed to market without the intended firmware? Optimistically, the initial firmware release addressing some of these issues might be in development or testing right now.

Realistically, if they are serious about entering this market, Samsung must surely react to a high level of reported faults... and a high returns rate.

You should get DD, I do.

My Samsung settings are as follows...

It may also be worth power cycling the Samsung.

I was just about to make a similar point, we don't know how long ago these units were manufactured, the firmware installed at the factory may well be an early unfinished version which could be the case if development was behind and they didn't meet the deadline for implementing a finished version for manufacture. Hopefully Samsung have been continuing development since then, for their sake I hope this is the case and a more stable update is imminent.

I have the settings the same as you but only get Linear PCM on HD channels, no problems with optical, hmmm.

Recorded 'Britains empty homes' from BBC1 HD at 11am and it recorded from the correct channel and didn't choose another region, does this happen under certain circumstances or does it appear to be pretty random at this stage?

Random, sometimes I have got HD but other times Northern Ireland.

The choice of BBC regions it records series links from also seems random and the choices change in the to-do list changes randomly also.

Automan - just a thought is it choosing vertical polarisation channels over horizontal or vice versa ?. Is it perhaps lower frequency rather than higher or vice versa ?

Amazon are saying it's not even released yet. Maybe this was all a big balls up at Samsung with somebody releasing a batch to manufacturing by mistake, before they finalised the software.

Amazon do say 2012 though. Gives them plenty of time to get it sorted!

Comet/Laskys keep pushing the delivery date back so it may be that Samsung have put a hold on further units going out for the time being.

Laskys emailed today to say they have 30 in stock. Comet and Laskys are both matching the Currys/Dixons price now,

Laskys cancelled my order yesterday afternoon and said they had no idea when they were going to get any stock

Someone has given a good review.

http://www.latestgadgets.co.uk/home-...800-freesat-hd

They also think it is wi-fi enabled which it is not.

Samsung has definitively produced a winner with its first Freesat+HD PVR.
