Sorry, but the only people you can talk to on the phones at Sky know absolutely nothing, and just make things up.

Something Sky boxes have done for ages. Until last week I was convinced the Sky EPG on HD boxes was old fashioned and slow... and buggy. But maybe they do get some things right.

Could the Sky box offer to record all episodes or change to the HD version?
Automan. But they did record the right programme ![]() I am sure that once Samsung get this sorted we are going to get a cracking good box that is far superior to the sky box. The features that don't work look great. I know it will take them a while to sort it - but what annoys me more is that it doesn't take a long time to tell people what's going on. Tried to play with youtube again this morning and rebooted the box 3 times in a row... |

I think I have found another bug. When I press the red button on BBC channels and select Sport Multiscreen you cannot actually select which stream you want to want. I'm trying to watch the F1 practive session now in full screen, so I press 1 the box recognises this but then nothing happens. Can someone else check this please? Cheers

Thanks, I'll have to give it another bash.
Just noticed in my planner that my series link for Filthy Cities in HD has gone missing. This is the first time I've noticed a series link being deleted. |

Has anyone yet had any of these promised phone calls back, emails or support tickets from Samsung?

Curry's now have them in stock at some stores.
Their website claims my local one in Eastbourne has them. I wonder if any of them in operation? One could have such fun setting recordings on BBC1 or 2 with Series links or recording a couple of movies from any of the chn4 family of channels ![]() Automan. |

Filthy Cities has just popped back into my schedule, how strange.
Then if the box did not have the guide data yet for that program it would not show up. EDIT: I think this may be the case as I recorded "The Sky At Night" with a series link but it does not show up, not even the folder. I have also just had my third 29 second recording, Saw this one happen and it occurs when the recording on a non +1 channel ends. It then starts recording from the +1 version for 29 seconds and stops. This has happened with ITV1 HD -> ITV1+1 ITV3 -> ITV3+1 Film4 -> Film4+1 Automan. |

For ease I have put all the problems that I can think of together
![]() Not possible to record more than one movie from any of the chn4 family of channels (E4, More4, Film4, etc). An attempt to record another will tell you it is already scheduled to be recorded. Unit records series links from random BBC regions. E.g. set a series link on a BBC 1 SE program and it may record it on BBC 1 NI. The same occurs with BBC2 regions. When a BBC HD program is selected and highlighted to be recorded sometimes it will record BBC NI in SD. No protection for series link recordings. If two series link recordings are set for 21:00 it will let you select a third for the same time with no warning of a clash. One of the two series link recordings then does not take place. In guide view the symbol that a program has a Series Link appears to be random. Non series link planned recordings sometimes vanish from Library / Timers. Parental control changes to hide stations are not saved. Recording playback time bar starts at 1 hour rather than 0. YouTube operation can make box reboot. On channels that support accurate start signals, if the program runs late the unit seems to stop recording at the scheduled time rather than after it actually finishes. Sometimes after the unit stops recording it will make a 30 second recording of the stations +1 channel. Some recordings are saved with no program information. In Library view, no indication that a new Series Link recording has been made unless you open its folder first – Time consuming. If connected to your TV using HDMI and a A/V amp you may find you get no sound unless on the amplifier you set it to send HDMI audio to TV. When you try and set a recording that causes a clash with existing planned recordings it only offers to delete all clashes and not pick just one. Disc space display in Library mode would be useful. Having to go to Menu, Settings, Library / Media, HDD capacity is very long winded. Automan. |

I thought I would try non freesat mode to get CHN4 HD but I failed.
Tried the information in post http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/s...&postcount=233 but with no luck and that thread rambles on for ever ![]() Anyway non-freesat mode finds 800+ channels with basic now & next for some. System time was correct but the guide I think was an hour out? Recording options are no better and no manual add or edit. In Library / Timers non of my Freesat timers show up and just changing back only 3 are visible. However re-selecting library, 6 show up so I guess if no future episodes are found, future series links are hidden (like sky+). Checking library now I have seven so I guess they may all come back when the unit's epg data is fully reloaded. Automan. |

Something else I can confirm, when in non-freesat mode freesat recordings are not made.
I have the last half an episode of Ironside recorded. Unit does not indicate why I only got a partial recording. Also still no news from Samsung ![]() Automan. |

I'm starting to lose the will to live with this box. The sound issue with my amp has proved to be a major problem with me, setting the amp to send sound to TV/AMP via hdmi allows sound to be sent to the amp but only in Linear PCM. I think this is because the TV reports that it can't accept DD signals so it reverts to Linear PCM. Having the amp sound set to just 'AMP' results in no sound to either amp or TV and the added problem of a digital snowstorm every time the Samsung is switched on, power cycling the amp or switching inputs back and forth fixes it. I use it in this scenario so the amp works with my BD player and Revo otherwise they only appear on the amp as Linear PCM too, I use optical on the Samsung for sound.
I have also had all the recording issues Automan has discovered and on top of that is there any way of turning off that infernal blue light on the front, it's on all the time no matter if it's on or off or in power save mode or not. Now I mentioned earlier that I had it working with my Harmony 555 remote, and it's true I do but the power button is still a problem. Turning the box on it boots up and then says 'enjoy' it then goes back to sleep again unless I send yet another power signal, in effect it needs to be told twice to turn on, switching off is never a problem. The original remote works ok. I am fast running out of patience with it and just want something that can do the basics, if there is no positive feedback from Samsung by the end of this week then it's going back and either the Humax or Echostar will replace it. I expect there will be a lot returns if there hasn't been already. |

Remote does not control 3rd party TV
Quote:
@ Amarok Can the remote work your tv, ie volume / on off…
HOWEVER… either the manual's instructions for how to enter a code are incorrect, or the remote does not actually support this function. You're supposed to hold down the "TV" button for >5s until the LED blinks. Well, it never blinks and the unit never enters a code-setup mode. I went back to Comet and tried their remotes, and they don't work either, so it's not a faulty remote. Samsung remotes in the past have tended only to control their own brand devices, and this remote certainly controls Samsung TVs as delivered. But how do you persuade it to control a third-party TV? I called Samsung and got a helpful person (!) who went through some obvious things but never got it to work. He said he would call me back and indeed he did, about a day later (! again). We tried resetting the microprocessor in the unit (remove batteries, hold down power button for several seconds), again no result. He had no further info at this time but has reported it and promises to call back to let me know the status of the query in a few days. I should note that he also, without prompting, told me about the upcoming software update and when it would happen, and even gave me something close to an apology for the box having bugs, even though I hadn't mentioned it. He told me they were aware of a number of issues and that he hoped the update would address many of them. A pleasant surprise and I hope his hopes are realised. Can anyone tell me:

If this function actually exists on the remote or did they not quite get around to it;
If so, what key combination allows access to enter a code (I've tried all the combinations that might make sense, nothing seems to work).
Obviously this is not going to be fixed by a software upgrade, much-needed though it is. |

Someone on facebook also said on their remote the TV button does not start flashing after 5 seconds.
I tried it on my one and it worked and I found the code for my LG TV. So yes at least with some remote's it does work. EDIT: Press and hold the TV mode button next to STB, not the TV power button. Automan. |

Thanks for the comment, good to know that some units do this correctly. Sadly mine doesn't (and I am pressing the correct button!). I also have an LG TV as it happens…

Yes I can also confirm that my remote works correctly and flashes as it should.
Hello! Just noticed that some recent posts have been removed from this thread, mostly about the announcement for the forthcoming update, whats up with that? |

On the front it says "GL59-00117A" (below subtitle button) and on the battery cover stamped in ink "110226". Only thing on remote back is "Made In China". Batteries are "Rocket" brand. It would seem Samsung have made a real mess with this product and as you say only a replacement remote will fix this issue. Automan. |
