I have updated my support call (1000 characters is the limit)

Quote:
“Hi, New firmware fixes the issue that you cannot record items from chn4 family of channels but a MAJOR issues still exist.

Last night when I went to bed I had 52 items in the Library to be recorded.

This morning the list only had 21 items with every single (non series link) recording had vanished.

HDMI also now seems to be worse via my Sony STR-DH810 and I now have to power cycle a couple of times before I can get a picture which sometimes is the wrong mode 576p rather than 1080p.

Then, with the S7800 set in Auto for video mode it plays the BBC HD channels in 1080p but CHN4 HD in 576p (either live TV or recordings).

Still no HDMI audio either on any channel unless I set the AMP to pass audio to TV which then means I do not get DTS HD from Blu-Rays as the TV does not support the format.

It is also still making short recordings after the main item finshes, these recordings are 1 sec.

In Library view can it also please indicate new recordings have been made in series link folders.”

Was thinking of getting one of these to go with my Samsung TV when I cancel my Sky subscription, May just hang on for a while after reading through this thread

Is it still missing the last minutes of recordings by not waiting for the next start signal? That should be the default to there being no stop signal or at least to run for the full number of minutes originally programmed, not to defaul to stopping at the advertised time!

Did they publish a list of what the update was supposed to have fixed?

They don't seem very interested in themselves answering the questions posted in the Q&A section. I do wonder if they read them.

Have not missed the end of a recording yet but it still seems to still stop at schedule time +20 seconds and not when the next program starts (Test on ITV 3).

No readme file with the firmware and all my single recordings vanished again while the unit was in standby.

Another odd one...

18:40, just watching BBC1 SE local news and box suddenly changed to CHN 102.

Pressed chn down and got freesat info channel.

Checked the guide and 101 had gone and then it came back!

Very oddbox?

In one way the box seems worse...

When it used to make all its 1 second recordings the all have the item name incremented by one e.g. The Searchers (1), The Searchers (2).

Now they all have the same name and for this film it never actually recorded the it, just a load of very short recordings.

I also think the box is more sluggish to respond than it used to be, not that it was that fast before.

I have seen it reboot a few times since the update playing media files, which I never saw before too...

Also - anyone tried logging onto samsungs support site?? Just going in a continuous loop - IE or Chrome...

It also seems recording failures have increased with more recordings just made out of a few single second recording (SD or HD).

From the image you will see it recorded the first two parts of Exile but last night all it made was a few stupid short recordings up to 10 seconds long....

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n...5-04101933.jpg

What a pile of junk

EDIT: Holby City, made the recording with several short specials....

Automan - very odd that your exile recording was a different length to ours.

Not sure if ours recorded last night's ok, but past two nights if did record ok, but both recordings were a few seconds under an hour.

Anyone heard anything from Samsung or Freesat with regards a new and lets hope a complete fix?

They have two more guides with the firmware...

One relates to issues with firmware update with single LNB feed.

The other is a readme of the new firmware.

Quote:
“Release notes
Improved the speed of updating program guide
Resolved the issue with recording wrong regional channels
Resolved the issue with incorrect pop-up when recording on CH4, E4, Film4.
Resolved the issue that adult channel hiding is not remembered after low-power standby
Resolved the issue that channel editing is not remembered after low-power standby
Improved the stability of playing back YouTube
Resolved the issue that program guide doesn't always scroll down to show all info available.
Resolved the issue that no series-link icon is shown for programs.
Resolved the issue that HD alternative icon is shown only if at the same time
Resolved the issue with recording multiple instances of the same program on different regions
when series link selected.
Improved so that when recording clashes are detected, user can select which recording will be
stopped
Support for single LNB connection
Improved the SSU download support
Note : Some users may experience schedule conflicts when recording some regional programs in
series because of broadcast information.
Samsung is working with Freesat to resolve this issue.”

Just done some more recording start / stop tests on ITV3

Recording two programs that follow each other...

Unit started to record George & Mildred when program started.

Program End - 17:48:07
Recording End - 17:50:21
Scheduled End Time - 17:50:00

Heartbeat started at 17:53:45 as did the recording.
Scheduled start time was 17:50

George & Mildred recording length was 31:43

Thus it can be seen the unit does not stop recording when the next program starts nor does it record for program scheduled length.

So it would seem it still stops recording at scheduled stop time plus about 20 seconds.

Sounds like the bug fixed some issues but not others, I am still looking at Humax and Samsung , saw both in Curry's and amazing they were actually working ! I like the Samsung's display with mini TV but can't risk until fit for purpose which it obviously is not at the moment, any ideas when further software will be updated ?

I've made my own test, and it seems that unit stops the recording when present/following programme signalization changes rather then at scheduled stop time:
1. schedule the recording
2. set the service information timeout option to "off", and a few minutes before the recording ends press info key.
3. Observe programme info. When present programme changes to the following one, STB stops the recording.

Summary:
1. Recordings seem to be started on running status changed from "not-running" to "running".
2. Recordings seem to be stopped on present/following programme signalization change.

That could well be the case...
But do the broadcasters always changed that information at the correct time between programs or does it just run to a set schedule?

This morning as usual all my single timers had gone - All except for one....

Perhaps it is the films name that saved it

Or perhaps the box only remembers recordings from certain channels?

To test, I have set some more recordings from that channel along with the normal BBC, Film4, etc which always vanish.

BTW, Sometimes now when you press the "Guide" button, it can be 3 seconds or more before anything happens....

Has anyone had any recent replies on support issues? I had some, all saying my faults had all been fixed, and to take it to a service centre. Mmmm..

Some of the faults I reported were new ones, since the update. Interesting!

Any evidence of the over-the-air update? Not showing on the DTT schedule.

I have the same problem. My issue was:

This happents on all the folders with more than 50 photos. I also cannot see all my music.
Tried this from another PC connected to the same network and I can see everything shared throught WMP12, so I am confident the problem is not on the streaming PC setup. Anybody else having this problem ?
Cheers”

And they told me that my problem should have been fixed with this new firmware and told me to call the service dept.

Silly question but given the choice would you opt for Samsung or Humax if buying this month ( My Sky Subscription ends on 30th May ? ) I do like the Samsung but will the software get fixed next upgrade in June or go on for a while more ?

Impossible question to answer, but based on probabilty.

The Samsung is way more buggy than ever the Foxsat-hdr was, sure there were bugs to sort out, None ever comprimised the basic functions as a twin tuner pvr.

The hdr is way more mature trhan the Samsung and the latest firmware appears to be very stable unlike the new Samsumg update.

Up to you but for me the Foixsat-hdr currently wins by a massive margin.

It's looking like a repeat of the Panny freeview twin tuner pvr, dropped eventually as a right dog .

Ask Automan he has both ?

Other than Youtube (which has been known to crash) and some limited network media playback features, The Samsung does nothing more than the Humax can.

And of course the Humax lets you copy recordings off of it.

Given time, I guess the Samsung will catch up but I have no idea when...

Just brought my box out of standby to check planned recordings.

All BBC, CHN4 & Film4 ones have gone

However

137 CBS Action
True Movies
True Movies 2
Movies4men

single recordings are still scheduled.

So perhaps this bug does indeed only effect some channels?

flyboy13 - I was going through the same dilemna and eventually bought the Humax and haven't regretted it al all. It may be a couple of years old (but so what) - it does everything it says on the tin pretty much perfectly.

For DNLA features and reading other formats off USB I bought a cheap(ish) Bluray player.

'Er indoors would have gone mental had I bought the Samsung with it's current reliability!

I returned my Samsung and got a Grade A Humax and to be honest it was like brand new, came in full retail packaging and the unit looked brand new with all brand new accessories. The only thing that gave it away that it was graded was that there was a sticker on the outer box saying so.
