I have decided to opt for the Foxsat HDR as the Samsung is so obviously a dog ! ( At the moment ) I think having seen both in action at my local Currys, the Humax is much more responsive and I can live with the EPG etc once I have get used to it .You would think they don't want to sell Freesat+ as I had to get the assistant to connect one after the other to their single feed and also set them up myself with a postcode !!

I have both and whilst I wouldn't recommend the Samsung, it is far more responsive than my Humax. The Iplayer on the Samsung is miles quicker than the Humax it's just unfortunate that it is so unreliable.

I set my one to record Family Guy on BBC HD (now 16:9 and 5.1 sound BTW).

Anyway, it started recording the first episode on time and recorded 16 minutes

The unit gives no explanation of any recording clashes or other issues

Don't know unless perhaps they use a different satellite transponder or something?

Product is now in stock at Amazon if anyone wants one

Just wondered if they'd abandoned the OTA update after seeing the download fixed so few of the issues...

I got my PB for total amount of recordings for one program last night. Eight for the rugby highlights on ITVHD.

On a (small) positive note. Both my Samsung and Humax were set to record the Tour of California on ITV4 last night via system link, but it was cancelled at the last minute due to snow. The Humax still recorded the two hours it was due to be on but the Samsung didn't.

Yes, but what is the Humax set to - accurate record or padding?

With a line speed of only 1.5 Megs the IPlayer on the Panny is fast and smooth..and reliable..
All of the NET facilities make that aspect of the Humax look and feel so antiquated.. Irritating to watch..
Not a single failure in the last week's recordings of everything we have never watched.. Films.. Dave ..etc etc to a USB drive..nearly 100 megs worth..
In passing..
The 'TWO Hours Forward' on the Humax Guide though is well worth having..

Just watched this episode on my HDR which recorded the full episode.

Humax says about it.

Actual Start Time 22:39~23:01
Scheduled Time 22:35~22:55

Thus the silly Samsung stopped at scheduled time losing the end of the episode recording only from 22:39~22:55 = 16 minutes.

Hi,

Can anyone tell me if this has Anynet+ HDMI-CEC support?

I have a Samsung TV, a Samsung DVD and an Onkyo AV reciever. All of these device play nice together however the HumaxHDR does not

Apart from the Humax's great reliability, the lack of HDMI-CEC support is really really anoying. I switch on all my units and let them fight out who is king, then switch the receiver to my Humax input. If I could controll the STB through my TV and it automatically took control of my receiver I would be happy.

When the firmware bugs are solved, the Anynet+ would sell it to me..

I would ask Samsung but I suspect it does not.

All other Samsung products: 0330 SAMSUNG (7267864)
Monday - Saturday: 9am - 6pm
Sunday: CLOSED

Or order one from Amazon and return it if it lets you down.

I can confirm that has Anynet+ HDMI-CEC support. My TV is also Samsung and it works ok.

I am too looking to get hold of a freesat box. ATM I have a humax fox-HDR-t2 but we have issues in our area with getting a good signal. I live at the bottom of a hill. The aerial is facing trees and cranes and can potentially pick up 2 regions.
I like the humax because of the networking and portal features but am disappointed by humaxs speed at updating it's software. It took way longer than advertised to get the portal and even now not everything that was advertised is their (namely sky player). I contacted them and apparently they have no set date for this being added.
Anyway, to me it seems that the Samsung has more potential and is more likely to get more features in the future looking at what they have to offer on their tvs. Obviously they need to get the basics right first! I just wish these companys would be more open and admit when they make mistakes and give honest time frames to rectify them. I would willingly buy a box today if I knew when they would fix it.

Do we know when they plan to release the next update?

Comparing the HDR and the S7800 the S7800 seems to indicate a weaker signal with less quality vs the HDR tuned to the same channel.

I suspect the S7800 has inferior tuners which matches the rest of it

Still no mention form Samsung about any new software updates.

My one is on the floor collecting dust as I have my 10 year old Tivo back online which actually records programs

The delay over the Sky Player may well be down to a well known broadcaster.

Make sure you insist on a refund under SOGA within 6 months of purchase. After that period it's down to you to prove that the goods were unfit for purpose before that the retailer has to the onus of proof. Simply based on this thread I can't see a problem.

Time to talk to your local trading standards maybe !

It might well be. I suppose they are just as slow at releasing new features.
If this site http://www.humaxtvportal.com/ is genuine, then it looks like Humax are well ahead with features to their portal for other countries.

Are their any other alternatives (excluding FOX-SAT) to the Samsung box which offer recording, networking and on-demand?

My last support query says...

09.05.2011 Waiting Reply (from Samsung that is).

Still, it is nearly a month since their last attempt so perhaps this week...

Still keep getting told that all known bugs whether reported or not have been fixed and to take it to a service centre where they will do full diagnostics and replace my unit for a working one
