well only 9 days left for samsung to keep their word about the update being in June.

I noticed also that the price has dropped considerably.

I am tempted by this box over the Humax due to price but really need to know it will work ok. I'm watching this thread closely.

Thats exactly what I am doing. I think whether the product will ever do well all depends on if the update is released on time and if it fixes at least the recording problems. i'm sure many of the boxes will be going back or not even leaving retailers shelves if Samsung dont get this right.

My box is now back from the repair centre

I have just been reading the detailed report of all the test they did

Just kidding no paperwork with box at all

Operating system version is the same and they have made some recordings including a 30 second one it seems to have made from BBC 2 NI after recording the program from BBC HD (Queen - Days of Our Lives). and the same thing on another recording on ITV4 which made a 29 second recording from ITV4+1

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n...6-22110957.jpg

So as I suspected, sending the box off for repair was a complete waste of time as most of the products issues are obviously software related.

I have just seen the beta testing for the software upgrade that will be made available soon, and I must admit it is amazing and makes the Samsung Freesat PVR the best on the market by a mile,

However a date is still unknown as to when this will be available,

This is a disgrace that a leading electronics manufacturer can release a product on to the Market place that is not suitable for the purpose it was intended, and I believe that all those that have purchased this unit should have there warranty dated from when the software update is available.

Update only shows some basic fixes.. Are we to expect some new features then?

I still only get the old one on their site so I guess they have pulled it

Interesting it said "Improved the compatibility with HDMI audio AMP" as they seemed to think no such issues even existed...

So far so good...

Software Version now 004.000.0296

I cannot see any new options but you now get audio in media if you load it from a Dolby Digital channel.

Only time will tell if other issues are fixed and I now have the HDMI direct to TV so I can't see if the HDMI issues are fixed yet.

I have set lots of single recordings and now for standby

if i were you i would be happy with the basic fixes for now after whats gone on, i think new features will be a long way off yet, if ever. most people will just be happy with a box that actually works, lets just hope the new software works ok for now.

I got a Failed message when I first tried this.

Retried having returned the box to factory settings and it went in fine.

Few days ago I tried to add a review on for SMT-S7800, which I might say was not positive, but I definitely stayed in their review guidelines.
What a surprise, it was not approved...
This is their answer:
Your opinion is very important to us and the Samsung community. We appreciate you taking the time to write a review on S7800 Freesat HD PVR. Unfortunately your review did not meet our guidelines for posting on our site.

We encourage you to review our guidelines and resubmit your review on S7800 Freesat HD PVR.

Thanks for being an active member of the Samsung community.

Sincerely,
The Samsung Team
On a more positive note, after the update, single recording schedule seems not to dissapear any more.
But the problem about not seeing all media files is still there.
Anyone noticed if it still does those few short recordings after the update ?

So is this box worth buying? It's a good price at the moment but if it doesn't work properly then maybe it's not such a good buy. I don't mind waiting for the updates if they actually come.

If its a no go can anyone suggest a similar box with similar specs, I'm a bit of a noob to this. We need the dual tuner, HD, it must record to HDD and have the iplayer function.

@martziniuk:
give us time to check the new software. So far it looks promising. I've also noticed, that the new USB image is 6-7 MB less than the previous one. Maybe they just got rid of the bugs
