My box is running fine no problems at all, I now prefer the Samsung to my Humax. I would like to be able to use the guide whilst playing back programs but then with the Humax I would like to be able to quickly delete programs or not have to be directly in front of the box for the remote to work. I find the guide and menus, red button service on BBC and BBC Iplayer to be 1000% times better on the Samsung. So much quicker and more responsive.

Could some of these issues be down to dish alignment?
Seems strange some have problems but others don't.

My Humax and Samsung are fed from the same octal LNB and I have even in earlier tests swapped the cables all over.

I would say the "bug level" is now at an acceptable level now and the product is now usable.

If the box had worked this well three months ago when it first went on sale I am sure everyone would have been a lot happier and we would not have a 27 page thread on it...

EDIT:
I will check HDMI operation via my AMP this morning to make sure they fixed that...

It has only happened the once and to clear the fault I had to quit library, return to live TV, back to library and resume playback again.

My unit is stuck recording again and now thinks it is recording the same channel twice - clever or what!

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n...6-26105824.jpg

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n...6-26105923.jpg

This again occurred on the second of two programs that follow each other with the same name. Last time Batman, this time Heartbeat.

Again, the program has no timeline

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n...6-26110015.jpg

And it thinks it ends at 01:00 in the morning...

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n...6-26110825.jpg

Someone else want to set a series link for two programs with the same name that follow each other?

If this is the case and it only happens in this circumstance I guess they don't have a very thorough test schedule.

EDIT:
Two epsisodes of "The Simpsons" are on later.

ANIMATION: The Simpsons
On: Channel 4 (104)
Date: Sunday 26th June 2011 (starting in 1 hour and 12 minutes)
Time: 12:40 to 13:10 (30 minutes long)

Brother From the Same Planet. Series 4, episode 14.
Animated comedy series following the hilarious adventures of a working class, semi-dysfunctional nuclear family in the misfit city of Springfield.
When Homer forgets to pick up Bart after his soccer practice, Bart gets revenge by getting a bigger brother named Tom to take care of him. When Homer finds out he decides two can play at the game, and he takes on a smaller brother named Pepi as well.
(Repeat, Subtitles, 1993, PG, 5 Star)

Director: Jeffrey Lynch
Starring: Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, Yeardley Smith, Hank Azaria, Harry Shearer

If anyone has the chance, please set your box to record with a series link to check.

Of course, the same problem may not occur as chn4 have no accurate start signals but still worth a try...

EDIT2:

Family Guy on BBC3 would be a good test also....

Just changed my HDMI wiring to feed it back via my Sony Amp.

And yes, the HDMI audio now works correctly with sound coming from amp and not being passed to the TV set.

Also video modes seem to be okay with it allowing me to set various video modes up to 1080p 50Hz.

Humax and Samsung both recorded both episodes correctly.

Perhaps it is just an issue with ITV series links so I have set it to record Mr Bean which has back to back episodes on today on ITV3.

Both Foxsat And FOX produced the same results

Zing-------

First episode (7/20) started 1 minute early and stopped at scheduled time (6 minutes).

Second episode (8/20) started and finished at scheduled times (5 minutes).

The schedule has not updated on either box (presumably next not yet in epg).

Just got in and my box is still recording "Mr Bean" which finished at 19:55

It is now 21:26

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n...6-26212800.jpg

So far the repeatable bug only has happened on ITV channel series links...

I will set for Family Guy on BBC3 to see how that goes.

EDIT:
I have updated my Amazon review and given the box 4 stars which I think is fair for anyone thinking of buying one now.

EDIT2:
I have logged the current bug at the Samsung support site.

I have since my last enquiry loaded the new software 4.0.296.

This has fixed all of the old bugs but has introduced two new ones that need fixing.

These problems are easy to replicate so your engineers should be able to fix them with ease...

1. If two episodes of the same series follow each other and are recorded by a series link e.g. Batman on ITV4 the unit will not stop recording one of them till hours later. So far this only seems to effect series links on ITV channels

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n...6-24180654.jpg

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n...6-26110825.jpg

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n...6-26212800.jpg

You will see it says it will not stop recording till the next day and the stop command is ignored.

2. If you playback a recording still being made and stop playback the resume information is not saved.

Regards

It will be interesting to see if during install it downloads the latest software.

Re my BBC3 test it looks like the bug effects this channel also.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n...6-26222651.jpg

You will see it thinks both tuners are recording the same program

Checked this morning and yes the bug does effect BBC series links also...

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n...6-27080403.jpg

As the second tuner was also free this time it seems to have recorded the second episode twice.

Once with the correct length and the other extended version at 2hr21mins long.

As this bug was apparent in under 24hrs of use I am a little surprised the pre-release testers of this software did not spot the issue?

It messed up again recording today's Batman much as I expected....

With the other tuner free the bug is different with the second episode being recorded twice but only one stops recording at the end.

During the scheduled recording time it says...

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n...6-27165749.jpg

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n...6-27165804.jpg

After the program end time one of them changes to an end time several hours later.

http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n...6-27170255.jpg

Any other Samsung owners replicated this yet?

Just about based on how I would score one now rather than with the last software release which only rated one or two stars.

It would be better if they let you give star rating for various factors.

Features 3/5
Performance 4/5
Design 4/5
Value 5/5
Customer Support 1/5
Standby Power Consumption 5/5

Doesnt seem very promising. Although it can now record, its no use if it records the same thing twice and doesnt stop recording 1 at all.

The unit could probably do with 4 or more tuners.

It almost seems as this is an experimental project. It seems a bit unfair that customers such as Automan should be doing this level of testing just to find out what the problems are.

The price is finally starting to reflect the quality of the product though, and if I was one of the initial customers I would ask for the difference to be refunded.

It seems daft, but I am annoyed with Samsung and I havent even purchased one yet.

Just a quick non samsung question. On the humax, can you hear live tv when you access the EPG?

I am starting to need good reasons as to why I shouldnt just get the Humax instead of the Samsung.

There is two ways of accessing the epg on the Foxsat-hdr.

The first one gives you a whole new epg from scratch. This approach requires tuner 1 so you lose the background video and the audio for about 40 sec until the data is delivered. The video and audio then returns. (The data comes from the Freesat home transponder on Eurobird 1). The transparency of the epg display can be altered in the setup menus.

The second loads the buffered epg direct from the HDD (virtually instantaneously), Because a tuner is not required you don't lose the video and audio at all.

This requires two actions, press schedule (displays the current recording schedule) and then press the red button to get the epg. If tuner 1 is recording then pressing guide does the same as this.

Before you ask the buffered epg is constantly updated by additional epg data transmitted along with the programmes so there's very little chance it's not up to date.

So by default if you press the Guide button on the remote you have to wait for it to load the data using tuner 1, but if you go to schedule, then access the guide it uses data stored on the HDD?

Is it not possible to have it access the stored data through the guide button?

Does anyone know how the Samsung handles the guide? e.g. does it fetch the data everytime or does it store it on the HDD?

I know my bush stb fetches the data every time so if I want to record something in the future I have to wait a few minutes before I can see what the info (mainly on the channel 4 channels).

Of course it's possible that's what happens if tuner 1 is currently recording.

Some have requested that the button functions are reversed. Humax have resisted this (it would confuse the hell out of me) and in any case I normally sometime in the day have a quick look at the schedule to check the evenings recordings, if somethings missing I just press red to add content. I do have a Harmony remote with Schedule and Red next to each other. I could add a button marked guide and attach a macro to it but don't really see the point as it takes milliseconds to push the two adjacent buttons. Having red buttons adjacent to schedule and media (red swaps the media source between the internal hdd and usb connected devices) is very handy.
