I have been reading about this model on various forums but I have not been able to tell whether the latest firmware that came out on Friday 8th July fixed that issue where there were two back to back episodes of a tv program and that the second one kept recording 2 to 3 hours later.
Has this been fixed yet? as it is the only thing holding me up from buying this unit Thanks Casioman |

Picked mine up from John Lewis today, and first impressions are very good. The plus points compared to my Humax are the live TV picture within the guide, which can be used straight away. Also, the response of the remote control is so much better than the Humax.
I would say the Samsung has the edge regarding picture quality. Have set back to back recordings for tonight, so fingers crossed on that score. |

Non-Freesat mode
Have been messing around with this today. As I live in Scotland, and as a result don't get ITV1 HD etc, I've put in a different postcode to ensure that I do. The downside of this is that I lose my regional channel 3 station, stv. By messing around with non-freesat mode and scanning for the 100s of channels, I found that stvHD is on channel 3855 and the guide is populated. As a test, I scheduled it to record The Royal at 7pm. I then flicked back over to normal freesat mode and whilst I can't watch channel 3855 from there, the scheduled recording was in the normal place with all of the normal freesat scheduled recording. As soon as the recording started, I started to play it back and it works perfectly. I notice that it has also, rather cleverly, changed the channel number of the series link I'd previously set up for Corrie, which had been programmed yesterday, when channel 103 was still stv, changing it to 3855, which is stvHD over on non-freesat mode. I'm very impressed. Will stop rambling now.

I get ITV HD on my freesat through my tuner card in my PC, is there no method for adding additional channels to the ones in your region on that box? Thinking of buying one for the living room.

Back to back Heartbeat & Mr Bean recorded okay today...
But it seems not to number them any more. Before it was a little random but so far since the latest upgrade all episodes have the same name... e.g. Heartbeat Heartbeat rather than Heartbeat Heartbeat (1) Automan. |

Hi, I;m a new user of the SMT-S7800 as of yesterday. Long time user of Humax Foxsat HDR.
I upgraded the Sammy to 5.0.300 via USB. I would like to reduce the clutter of unwanted channels in the EPG, ideally by displaying my favorites but this doesn't seem possible. I tried the alternative of deleting unwanted channels (painful to do this!) but unlike the Humax they come back on a scan. So this isn't viable as a method of reducing the crud in the EPG. Has anyone any ideas? Thanks |

Automan thanks for this, so it appears that back to back recording may have been resolved. As with the naming of the recordings , not a major issue but do these not have a date and time stamp against them in the library ?
Thanks Casioman |

Yeah you can clearly see the date of each recording, much better this way, it was a bit messy with the numbering of recordings.
Yesterday Mr Bean Mr Bean today Ironside Ironside (2) All after a complete reset. Automan. |

If the only main issue now is the naming of the recording and the back to back recording is fixed, I will be buying this unit. I had to think on either this, the humax or the echostar. The echostar features were not really the top priority for me.
Thanks Casioman |

Just ordered one from petertyson.co.uk £199.90
I've got a feeling the price of this unit may start going back up now te major problems are fixed. Once word gets out that it is a good unit it will pick up in popularity. |

Tried back to back recordings last night, and all fared well. One was a double recording.
Anyone know when the next OTA software upgrade to 5.0.300 will be available? Have noticed that the display clock is hours wrong when in standby. Will this affect timer recordings in standby mode? Thanks for any help. |

Does anyone know whether this PVR will output on HDMI and an analogue output at the same time ? (scart or composite) . I kn ow the HUMAX does this, it is an advertised feature. The reason I ask is valid -- I would have the PVR connected to local TV via HDMI (for HD signal) -- but I also "pipe" my existing units (eg existing Sky box etc) to other TVs in the house via a distribution system -- which is where the analohue output would be used.
The manual refers to "Concurrent Outputs" (page 70) - but without explaining what that actually means. I called the Samsung support number, and they told me "no" - but I don't believe it ! If I look through the manual, I can see no option to select between HDMI/Scart, so surely it has to be outputting on both at the same time ? - appreciate it if anyone knows the answer !! Thanks |

Just got the box. Not bad first impressions. Some menus do seem a bit sluggish, but maybe thats just me being impatient.
Gutted that you cant find 4OD and Demand5 content on youtube (but thats not samsungs fault). Maybe Samsung will add other on demand features in the future to the Samsung WebTv portal (like what they have on their smart tv's)(obviously they wont for a while because the smart tv's are their flagship product and they dont want everyone going out buying a freesat box for £200 instead of a new tv for £1500) thanks to everyone on here that has helped inform me. I think really users like Automan need to be thanked by Samsung because if they were not patient enough to wait for the fixes, and they had returned their boxes, then probably many of the problems would still exist and the product would have been a complete fail. |
