Stuck now, I only have a foxsat-hdr so comments have to be specific to that. From your description it sounds pretty sure that the first explanation is correct. On a foxsat-hdr you would use manual tune to check the freesat home transponder signal. On your box you need an owner to explain how to do this.

Yay got it working, I had to press the green button to use the on screen keyboard, it wouldn't let me do it with the keys. I got one more channel, ITV +1.

Although a factory reset should reset all values, if you haven't already done so, it may be worth power cycling, ie switching the power off using the little switch at the back of the unit, leaving it off for half a minute then turning it on again. If it doesn't work then, it does sound unfortunately as if you've got a faulty unit.

Still think you may have dish alignment problems you should have a total of around 173 TV and Radio Channels depending on postcode.

Interesting! I didn't know that the ITV1HDs were in different resolutions! I've fiddled my system to a Scottish borders post code. How can I find out the resolution? It does mention 'Upscaled HD' in the guide for some shows.

Cheers

Try M2 4JA (Manchester Town Hall ) that definetely works. If you are feeling posh you could try Buckingham Palace but that will give you lower resolution ITV1-HD at 1440 x 1080 rather than 1920 x 1080. Who said the Royals were priviledged ”

That's OK then that will be the lot for your postcode. For instance a London one gives you an extra Radio station (Radio London)

I have an observation / annoyance. Not sure how to raise it as an idea. Within the Timer section of the Library List, it would be nice to be able to bring up the synopsis of a scheduled recording, by pressing the Info button. I've not managed to find a way to do it, except by going into the guide and finding the show in question. Not a huge issue, but a niggle, just the same.

Tried your idea of a power cycle, but the clock problem still exists. What I have discovered this evening, is when I put the Samsung in standby, the clock keeps the right time for approx' five minutes before 'freezing'. I take it this coincides with when the clock should be going to sleep, and just the blue light shows. Have emailed Samsung for help with this problem.

I made my first ever radio recording which I see also can have series links.

These also cannot be copied to a USB device.

One other thing, when playing the radio recording back you get a light blue screen with a music note in the middle and no screen saver.

Hi there,

Can any of the owners of the Samsung SMT S7800 HDR tell me what sort of signal strength and quality you get on any of the HD channels.

I'll post mine when I get home later tonight but yesterday whilst watching the golf on BBC one HD I lost the signal during heavy rain, and also channel 4 HD went at the same time.

I'm sure I never lost them like that whilst I had a Sky subscription. Maybe I need to adjust the dish & LNB alignment?

I've had the box for just under a week and no major faults with it, apart from one synopsis of Torchwood that I had recorded came up with something completely different.

Also, I would like the folder that a single series linked programme sits in to be deleted if there are no programmes held in the folder. To me if I see a folder there is some content to watch but it remains even if you delete the last programme it contains. Any new programmes of the same series that get recorded it can create the folder at that time. Anyone agree?

Regards,

Alan.

Screen Saver Bug...

I have had this problem again where the screen saver cuts in every five minutes playing back a recording

I think I have found out how to replicate this should someone wish to confirm.

1. Select a radio channel e.g. 705 and listen to it.
2. Press library and select a recording and play it back.

Does the screen saver cut in every five minutes?

Automan, your list of bugs/enhancements is still quite long but Samsung seem to be getting there with their last update!!!!

As an experienced user of the Samsung would you now recommend it? It is now under £200 and as I am not interested in the slingshot feature of the Echostar the Samsung is what I am leaning towards.

All input gratefully received.

Yeah I've had this bug previously, very minor but annoying none the less.

At the price and as long as you don't want the facility to backup recordings I would not hesitate to buy one.

Only bugs left are minor.

I have a question for other users. If you select to record something in the guide to record and choose NOT to series link, can you then set series link in the lib?

I can't find a way of doing this.

Also do thumbnails only show up next to recordings after it has been watched?

Thanks

I have changed the skew of the LNB with vast improvements but I won't bore you to tears with the results. Worth checking yourself if you have weak signals. It also explains why on 999 the music in the background was breaking up before but doesn't now.

I don't think you can alter the library entry to change to or from series link. You either have to press record again in the guide which takes off the record option then press it again to get the option of single programme or series.

Yes, it appears thumbnails only appear after you have pressed OK to play the programme within the library, and the first image of the recording will show, even if it doesn't look relevant to the programme recorded.

What I don't like about the way it displays planned recordings for series linked programmes, is that because they sit in a folder you have to individually go into each folder to review when they are set to record.

It would be nice if you could view them in date order but in one location, rather than in the individual folders.

Before messing about with the skew of my LNB earlier tonight, just so that I would not mess up any planned recordings I had to individually check each folder..or am I just being lazy?

Indeed, the planned recordings list has room for improvement.

1. No detailed program information is available.
2. No option to just have just one list in scheduled recording time & date order.

I had time this morning just to quickly switch the box on to check what programmes were on and noticed that the EPG hadn't fully populated. There seemed to be a gap of about 6 hours on at least the first 6 programmes (from 101).

I had to switch it off at the back & then on & reboot and it fixed it. Anyone had similar issues?

Alan.
