As Automan said a lot of the difference is in the software, I know that most of the hardware is the same, it just depends on when Samsung want to utilise these features on the s7800,

This unit is already 3d ready, but all the enhancements this will bring won't be realised until Samsung switch them on,

I know I am boring some people now, but this is the machine for the future and is only at th start of it's evolution, I should know I have seen what's in store,

Does this box have a series-link reminder feature? I can see series-recording as it provides an option when you set it to record. I always need a reminder for my C4 news to the kids tell me when it is on

Alas no, you can only set it to remind you that a single program is to start.

I must admit to not even testing that, only ever selected it by mistake.

Thanks Automan. The single instance reminder does work indeed.

Should this box switch to "Low Power Standby Mode" after 5 minutes of "Active Standby Mode" when the "Power-save mode" option is set to off in the System settings? I am not sure I understand how the two should interact.

The option in system setting puts the box into standby from normal mode if no button is pressed on the remote control for I think 3 hours during the early AM hours only.

Basically if enabled, if you forget to turn it off when you go to bed it will do it for you.

Great and thanks. So there is no way to prevent the box from going into "Low Power Standby Mode"?

If you just leave the box on and leave the advanced power saving option off the box should stay on all the time.

Of course it will use about 30 times the power it uses when in standby mode.

Does anyone know if it is possible to change the itv regional channel? I think I have the wrong one.

Just run 1st time setup again and put in the postcode for the area you want.
Bear in mind that not all ITV1 sub-regions are available on Freesat, at present, due to a lack of spot-beam capacity on Astra 2D.
For example Anglia East is available, whereas Anglia West is on Astra 2A widebeam, and therefore encrypted by Sky.
Expect that to change very shortly once Astra 1N, currently testing in a different orbital position, gets moved into place at 28.2 east and provides much more narrow beam capacity.

Just got my new box last night from Richer Sounds after telling Sky to bugger off.

So far so good. Just quick couple of questions.

I have my box in my bedroom and when its on standby the blue light is way to bright, woke up with a headache. Is there any way to turn the light off without pressing the switch botton at the back of the box?

Second question which is related to the first one. When the box is on standby the clock displays but after 10 mins or so it goes off and just leaves the blue annoying blue light. Is there anyway to have the clock permanently on in standby mode?

Cheers

No option to turn off blue light

Only way to get the clock on all the time is to leave it on rather than switching to low power standby.

I have a Humax HDR in my bedroom and it has a piece of cardboard over the display which is not really needed.

Damn, i was looking forward to using it as a night clock. Seems i might have to turn off the switch from the back or use something similar to your cardboard trick

Probably thats why then, cos I entered the right postcode to start with. Does anyone know when they plan to start using astra 1n?

On the Samsung, do timers update if the programme set to record changes time after the timer has been set?
For example I set X Factor earlier in the week on my freeview recorder and since ITV have changed the end time and the freeview is still set to finish at the original end time.

On the main channels they can auto update to any late changes in the schedule but a lot relies on them updating the data in the guide.

So yes, with luck it should record the correct timeslot

The signal strength and quality showing on mine varies between 100/90 and 100/100, but I live in Winchester and have a 60cm dish which is bigger than needed so far South.

I agree with you. I liked the Foxsat-HDR, but it had too many idiosyncrasies and always seemed like an enthusiasts' box. I prefer the Samsung.

So overall do you think my signal strength and quality will be ok or is it worth trying to realign the dish

Something has gone wrong!

Loaded Library and it only showed a few recordings.

Went to timers and all seem to be okay.

Went back to recordings which is now empty

Unit is recording at the moment but so it will not power off completely to see if that helps.
