Something I have just noticed and wonder if anyone can help I'm getting really bad lip sync on certain programs does anyone know how to rectify this as they speak before there lips move about a second delay

Thanks
I've not had lip sync problems with the broadcasts but I reported a similar problem on 9th August.
Playback using the ethernet connection always suffers significant lip synchronisation problems. Software version V5.0.300.
1. Playing AVI files (XVID) which play correctly on the computer are seriously out of synch when played using Media : Video : Network on the SMT-S7800
2. BBC iPlayer High Quality is seriously out of synch on the SMT-S7800. The same iPlayer progamme played using the same connection is perfectly in synch using a Huimax Foxsat HDR.
Can you please tell me when you will fix these errors.
Kind regards
xxxx xxxx

It might be worth your while to report your experience too so they can see it's maybe wider than I have described.

Probably thats why then, cos I entered the right postcode to start with. Does anyone know when they plan to start using astra 1n?
Hopefully within the next month or so, see this http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1506391

Changing channels I often get the message "This channel cannot be received" (or similar wording). Moving up and down the channel list usually sorts it out. It didn't happen when I got the box but is frequent now. It's actually rather annoying. I will check the inputs.
Hi Nickloman, Thanks for the information, I have now solved my problem. It seemed to be a combination of one badly connected F connector on the dish side and then both of the F connectors coming out of the back of the Samsung had a very tight radius on the immediate cable which was sporadically causing a message to appear to check your connection. Very glad to have found the answer and thanks for the info. Did you sort your problem. Maybe my tips could help.

After following Automan's trials and tribulations on this thread over the past few months I finally took the plunge and bought this box last weekend. I have initially set the box up on an old widescreen CRT tv in my dining room via Scart until I clear my Sky+ box and cancel my subscription.

Set up was an absolute breeze. Simply swapped the scart and lnb inputs on an old broken sky multiroom box. The Samsung updated automatically to the latest software and both myself and more importantly my wife are finding the box very easy to use, certainly no more difficult than Sky.

One problem I did note however was that the corners of the Guide were not fully visible e.g. only half of the red button was visible and the date and time was not very clear. Tried playing about with all the picture settings on the box and tv, including changing the horizontal hold but to no avail. I also tried a different Scart lead.

Fearing that the box may have been faulty I briefly swapped it over to my main tv via HDMI to discover that the Guide was now perfect. Not sure therefore whether the problem is with my tv or with the connection by Scart.

I have set numerous recordings over the past week and to date have had no problems. Am looking forward to switching the box over to my living room within the past weeks.

P.S- Picked the box up for £199 at Richer Sounds. Many thanks to Automan for bringing to my attention on a separate thread that Samsung are now offering £30 cashback on this box, my application to Samsung has already been e-mailed.

Any Samsung owners have any idea when the next software update will be released for the S7800,and what improvements/fixes it will contain.

According to Post # 715
Aye I rang them in the end. A new control is being sent out. I also asked about wifi support, they said a firmware upgrade will be released in late Aug/sept which will include support for wifi .

Got a question which is really bugging me my signal quality on channels like itv hd 4 hd and all BBC channels etc are about 90% signal quality and about 65% signal strength but on channels like movies for men and some of the music channels the signal quality is about 30% and strength is about 40% does anyone know why this could be ?

Dish alignment is the most likely reason. The BBC channels come from Astra 2D at 28.2E, lots of the other channels like the ones you mention are from Eurobird 1 at 28.5E. Your dish may need a tiny nudge East and/or the lnb skew needs a small correction.

A good read

Basically mark the existing adjustments. Tune to a channel with a poor signal, select the diagnostics mode of the box. Tune for best quality. Make minute adjustments and give the tuner time to respond to the change. Start with azimuth (direction) and optimise. Carefully lock off the adjustment. Repeat for elevation (up/down), repeat for lnb skew (twist in it's holder) and if possible focus (move the lnb back and forward in it's holder relative to the dish)

Have been more than happy with my Samsung since purchase, apart from the front panel clock freezing in standby mode.John Lewis have agreed to a full refund, and I have placed an order with Amazon for a new unit,at £50 less than JL.With cash back it will be £80 less than the original Samsung.Just hoping the clock display is ok on the replacement!

I've not had sky or a freesat box before so is this a good one or should I pay a bit more for a Humax, I've seen the Samsung for £200 and with £30 cashback it seems a good deal, But does it perform well?

I chose it as a more up to date replacement for the Foxsat-HDR and was willing, when I bought it, to pay more for the Samsung and I think it was worth it.

The Samsung has a much more elegant EPG than the Foxsat without the jerky navigation and the Foxsat's quirky 30 second silence when you press the guide button and initial inability to schedule a recording. The Samsung programme sound continues when you press guide and the picture continues in a small window.

The Foxsat allows recordings to be offloaded to a USB drive. The Samsung does not. However the Samsung will play recordings including XVID from a USB drive or from your computer drive through your network.

Personally, I prefer the Samsung because of its more up to date interface. However, the Humax is a great enthusiasts' box.

So Am I right in thinking that anything recorded on the Samsung cannot be taken off and saved elsewhere or recorded onto a dvd?

At the moment the only way you can archive recordings is by connecting to either a blu ray or DVD recorder, however the recording will be done in real time,

Being able to record/playback via a USB memory stick is a couple of updates away yet, one of the options you will have will be the ability to choose recording to HDD or EXT USB DRIVE as well as full archive backup etc

Don't forget you read it here first

Samsung have redesigned their website - perhaps apple were gone to take them to court for using a web page?

http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/t.../SMT-S7800/XEU

Anyway it has left it now showing two reviews saying "terrible" and the other "Unreliable".

Not the best thing to say on a product page (well not now anyway).

EDIT:
Also now when you go to support the colour scheme is terrible with grey text on a blue background...

Automan.

Do we know when the next update is due and what that will bring / fix? I know there's not many bugs left - main ones are occasional hanging along with pixelisation/skipping at that point of any recordings in progress, and also media file playback and iPlayer issues with sound sync.
