Has anyone had any luck with getting samsung to work with OMNI-link plus or triax link for swiching channels in another room. I've got Triax link but cannot get the magic eye to work, I thought the samsung box might of been IRDA or RC5, which would explain why I cannot get it working, but samsung support say it is IR.

HI,

Last night I had various recorded programmes still to watch & now when I have booted the box there are no library contents, yet there is still space allocated for recordings I have done.

I have just recorded a part programme, and when it stopped recording that also does not appear in the library.

Can anyone advise how to fix this problem? I have switched off at the mains a couple of times but no luck so far...very disappointed.

Cheers,

Alan.

I don't know about multi room, but my Logitech Harmony remote has no problem controlling the SMT-S7800.

That sounds rather nasty, particularly as you've switched it off at the mains a couple of times. Unless anyone else has experienced this problem, it sounds like a faulty box which would need to be returned - that's disappointing. You could try a factory reset, but I don't know what else it resets:

To reset to the defaults, follow these steps:

1. Press the MENU button ( ) and Select [Setting].
2. Select [System] and [Reset to defaults].
3. Enter the PIN code.
- The default PIN code is 0000.
4. Select [Reset to defaults] using the Navigation buttons and press the OK button ( ).
5. When factory reset is completed the product will restart and the [User Settings] window will appear on the screen.

I have had that once but later on (under 2 hours) without me doing anything they were all back again and have remained so.

This was with the current release of firmware.

Me too a few times. Totally unexplained but not happened in ages now. Sometimes the list would load and then disappear again. Very odd.

I know off thread for Topic ...but theme is congruous..
My Panny USB drive with some 250 G of Films suddenly said 'Nothing stored on drive'
Very reliable for some 3 months.. then after Switch Off/On... the listing shows ONLY 2 TV recordings from July.. shaken my faith a little..Perhaps the latest download was to correct it .. We shall see..

Thanks to Bramble and all others who gave advice. The reset worked, and the only downside was to add back in the planned recordings.

Cheers,

Returned my original S7800 with the "frozen clock" problem to John Lewis for a full refund. Purchased another from Amazon, and all is ok. I still think this is the best Freesat PVR on the market, and will only get better with further software updates.

After carefully reading this thread I decided on the Samsung over the Humax. No real issues so far and nothing I didn't expect.

One thing is bugging me though. I tried to watch a movie (xvid) via USB and it plays fine. Only issue is that the move is in 2.35:1 aspect ratio and the Samsung does not respect this at all (no black bars top and bottom). It fill the screen on the TV. The WIDE button on the remote does nothing but a display comes up which cycles through AUTO / 4:3 Pillar Box / 14:9 Pillar Box and 16:9 Centre Cut Out, but nothing actually happens.

I have also tried to set the TV aspect ratio but I think its the freest box that is causing the issue. I had not noticed it before but this is the only 2.35:1 file I have at the minute. The rest are 16:9

Any ideas?

I've not experienced this particular issue, but, as I use a WDTV media centre for playing my own XVID videos, I've only had a little dabble using the SMT-S7800.

I did not have a problem with aspect ratio. However, I have experienced jerky sound and picture on maybe ten percent of the files I've tested. I also found, through the ethernet connection, there is a 40 file limitation per directory. I have reported both of these to Samsung through Product Registration Centre "My Enquiry". Samsung do respond using this method. You might consider notifying them of your problem so they will know to address it.

I have some DVDs that I've ripped to to disk too that do the same. There are a few niggles with the media player - hopefully will be resolved in the next update?

Good to know its not just me so. I've sent off a message to Samsung via their web site so lets see what they have to say.

I have just had the missing library too. Nothing was recording but the issue was exactly the same as automan. Only 3 folders were visible, went to timers and they were ok, went back to recordings and they had all gone. Turned it off for a bit and back on and they were all back.

Strange

I have a new box...only a month old. I lose the last minute or so of every recording. Is there an answer to this yet, please?

Is this with just some channels e.g. Chn5?

The makers of the box seemed to be under the impression that all channels broadcast the accurate start control signal in the guide data but this is not the case.

So for some channels it just starts recording at the scheduled time and stops recording at the time the next program is scheduled to start.

No option exist to add extra time other than by also recording the next program.

BTW, The only channels that do send the accurate start data are...

BBC channels and ITV channels (but not +1 version).

Indeed, with an optional USB Dongle.

Browsing the manual of the new Freeview box I note they have done away with the legacy scart connector.

Just bought the S7800 and so far so good. Does anyone know what model wireless dongle is needed to access wi-fi?

Hi, just picked up a Samsung SMT-S7800, and so far no real problems (I compared the Samsung and the Humax head-to-head at my local currys where they had both of them powered up instore, the usless idiots instore and uncompetitive prices meant I ended up buying online), The Samsung came out on top for me, the horror stories of early firmware seems to have been mostly cleared up.

My only remaining issue (coming from Sky), is that I used to have my remote controls volume up/down control my AV amp (Sony), using some remap hack I found online. Is there any way to do the same with the Samsung remote? I really don't want to go back to a 3x remote household. The only reason I was allowed to cancel Sky, was if it was "still as simple as it was before" according to the missus.

The only thing that seems to be missing is the ability to add padding to recordings. Anyone know if Samsung will be adding that? I really hope so, as it was the only -neg that I came up with against the Humax.

You could use a universal, multi-device remote from the like of One For All or Harmony / Logitech.

Never really been a fan of them, they are usually so generic, it makes the product had to use (compared to the manufacturer supplied original). I will take a look, as perhaps univeral remotes have moved on since I looked at the crap they were trying to pass off a few years back.

See http://skp.samsungcsportal.com/integ...=uk&seq=404143

On the SMT-S7800 set-top box these features are not available by design as the timing information provided by the channels are usually accurate to allow the programme to be recorded in its entirety.

Sounds like a cop-out answer. Should we take this as a no then?

Perhaps people should give Samsung that life in the real world is not like their test lab....

I would like to let everyone know that the Triax link does work with samsung in regards to my earlier post.

Is anyone having problems with the guide being blank and missing recordings because of this, I've regularly got to turn the box off at the plug to get the TV guide back to normal. Sometimes I've noticed it's because I've gone to non-freesat mode and gone back into freesat mode but other times is when the samsung smt s7800 has came out of standby.
I would like to be another person asking for padding on recordings as it only seems the first 3 channels have accurate information and is regularly cutting programmes short.
