Pazza02,
I have observed such problems with older version of software, but not with the v300. If you go to standby for 1 minute and then back, is the guide fully populated?

I'll try that next time it happens, instead of turning it off.
Firmware is 039.143 and Software is 005.00.0300.

I do check every morning that the guide is up for the channels I record off to avoid issues

it used to happen most of the time when I went into non freesat (spent an hour watching music channels) and back into freesat so I have stopped using non freesat mode.

It's happened a few times in the morning so assuming it's because it goes into standby overnight

Is anyone having problems with the guide being blank and missing recordings because of this, I've regularly got to turn the box off at the plug to get the TV guide back to normal. Sometimes I've noticed it's because I've gone to non-freesat mode and gone back into freesat mode but other times is when the samsung smt s7800 has came out of standby.
I've not had the guide problem at all, although I hardly use non-freesat.

Through its ethernet connection, my SMT-S7800 can access and play DIVX and MPG videos off a 2TB USB drive attached to my computer via the Windows Media Player server. There are a couple of issues I've raised with Samsung including the limit of 40 entries per directory (I've had to reorganise the directory structure on the drive to accommodate this limitation), but my main bugbear is the use of Media Player as the DLNA server, meaning my computer has to be switched on to watch a video on the SMT-S7800 in another room.

I would much prefer to attach a NAS network drive (such as http://www.buffalotech.com/products/...ion-pro-ls-vl/) to my router directly. I am unclear what level of compatibility (if any) UPnP and DLNA suggest. Has anyone else played with the SMT-S7800 networking capabilities, as I'm not technically competent with networking?

UPnP - yes, samba - no. It seems that this one shall work.
"An integrated DLNA Certified™ server streams multimedia content to any DNLA or uPnP A/V media playback device such as PS3™, Xbox 360®, many network enabled TVs, digital photo frames, etc."

As I understand it the server side is not much more than sending the data as fast as network allows and the client wants. The client needs to understand and be able to decode the formats sent to it.

I have never had any luck with Serviio - samsung box sees the server and file structure but doesn't show any files... Works fine on other media players though.

I have tried it with two DNLA certified servers for music.

However, it only lists the first 100 matches and thus does not play all available tracks artists or genres

With Windows Media Player, I navigate through the directories on my media drive using the Folders option (within the SMT-S7800 Media/Network option) as I'm not really interested in genres or artists. I just want to play the videos, music etc which I've already organised as much as I need into the directory structure (now limited to forty files per directory because of, what I assume to be, an SMT-S7800 restriction).

Is an equivalent Folders view available using your DLNA servers? I would be interested to know what DLNA servers have you used? I would like to get a compatible DLNA/UPNP NAS drive in the hope that the SMT-S7800 could then replace my existing WDTV media centre.

Herein lies the problem I think.... It's not DLNA... uPnP maybe but not DLNA... Not sure if I'm correct but I think DLNA makes the standards a little firmer.

I'm very confused.

Maybe I'm mistaken, but the Samsung site doesn't seem to mention DLNA, but one of the reviews talks about a "poor DLNA implementation". http://www.techradar.com/reviews/aud...-958920/review and the Amazon SMT-S7800 technical spec includes "Home Network: DLNA" http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-SMT-...ata/B004S5ZUJ4

I am unclear about how close to a standard DLNA is. Since I bought my SMT-S7800 from Amazon, if I buy a DLNA compliant NAS drive from Amazon, perhaps, should they not work together, this could be grounds for returning the drive?

Just bought the S7800 and so far so good. Does anyone know what model wireless dongle is needed to access wi-fi?
I called them last week to ask about connecting wirelessly. The chap I spoke to told me that it isn't possible at the moment - the machine only supports wired conection to a hub or router, but a future firmware update will allow wireless connection - presumably using the 'n' wireless dongle that they sell for use with their tv's.

Samsung have no DLNA certified set top boxes. http://www.dlna.org/products/

I think DLNA enforces certain features that must be available for certain device types (i.e. server, media player etc.). uPnP is part of DLNA but DLNA includes more than just uPnP.

From DLNA web site:

How does DLNA differ from existing organizations like the UPnP™ Forum and the Internet Home Alliance, which have similar visions?

The UPnP Forum is an industry initiative aimed at connectivity between stand-alone devices and PCs from different vendors. UPnP technology is a key standard required for an interoperable network in the digital home. On the other hand, the Internet Home Alliance, a cross-industry network of leading companies advancing the home technology market, explores new uses and conducts field trials to validate consumer needs. Both organizations are complementary to the vision of DLNA, which is focused on developing and promoting an interoperable network through a specific framework.

I had also seen that these Samsung boxes are not listed on the DLNA website. However the user guide states:

This product contains NetFront Living Connect of ACCESS CO., LTD.
This product contains NetFront Media Player of ACCESS CO., LTD.
The Access website includes the DLNA logo and describes NetFront™ Living Connect as "Market-Leading DLNA Technology Component Solution for Consumer Electronics and Home Networks" http://www.access-company.com/produc...ect/index.html Maybe this is a pick and mix guideline and this box has only a very limited implementation restricted to the Windows Media Player server. Perhaps it may be wise to see if there are further developments in future software releases.

Lets hope so. Someone in this thread had said an update was out today. Unlikely I'm sure, but here's hoping!

I have tried my one with several music servers e.g. Pure FlowServer, Netgear Readynas DUO.

All with the same results, quite a limit on what is listed.

I have just been trying the FlowServer with my LG TV.

It also has limits listing only 200 albums out of about 700 and All tracks only show 1000 tracks.

The SMT-7800 lists the first 100 albums and also ONLY the first 100 out of All tracks.

Also the SMT-S7800 list album tracks sorted by their name rather than their correct track number.

Unrelated, I see the Cashback deal from Samsung gives you the payment on a prepaid credit card.

Also no software update

If I am understanding you correctly, that sounds rather hopeful for my proposed use. With Windows Media Player DLNA server I also have a limit of 100 tracks/albums etc and a limit of 40 files per folder. I have organised all my media into folders which means I can see all my media as files with WMP server.

I think, from what you're saying, that your Netgear Readynas DUO is behaving the same. If so, I may try a NAS drive for all my videos and music. I can understand that the limits are probably a problem for you (as you are probably using the technology properly), but it should be OK for my folder/file inventory so long as the SMT-S7800 can see the media on the NAS drive within the 40 files per directory limit.

Let's keep hoping about the next software release and that Samsung won't go the same way as Humax with excessively delayed releases.

One other question, Automan. I've made an assumption that the navigation and options are the same with your NAS drive server and with the Windows Media Player DLNA server.

Could you possibly tell me whether, with your NAS drive, Folders is an option along with Album Artists, Albums etc for Music media and Folders is an option along with All Vidoes, Series etc for Video media... or is the Folders option specific to the Windows Media Player server?

I don't think it lets me browse folders on the S7800 but will check in the morning.

Just checked and no option to browse folders

Songs should say Genre
http://i336.photobucket.com/albums/n...9-21085835.jpg

All seem to be limited to the first 100.

Looking at the Flowserver web interface on my PC I have 769 albums and 15,369 tracks but it also does not list the actual folders to browse so this my be a Flowserver twonky thing rather than the Samsung.

Thank you for checking this. What a pity. I certainly don't understand the differences. An equivalent option list accessing Music on the SMT-S7800 using Windows Media Player server is http://i984.photobucket.com/albums/a...e/DSCN0401.jpg

Folders also shows within a different options list for Videos. In both cases, it is then possible to browse through the directories and files.
