Thank you for checking this. What a pity. I certainly don't understand the differences. An equivalent option list accessing Music on the SMT-S7800 using Windows Media Player server is http://i984.photobucket.com/albums/a...e/DSCN0401.jpg

Folders also shows within a different options list for Videos. In both cases, it is then possible to browse through the directories and files.
I think the FlowServer software by Twonky does not publish everything e.g. Folders.

And from what you have said if it did, it would only handle/display 40 items per folder.

I'm not familiar with FlowServer. Is it a server running on your computer through which you are accessing network attached storage or does it run on a NAS, meaning you can leave the computer out of the loop?

The description of the ReadyNAS Duo, which you also mentioned, says that it "Directly streams music, photos and video to existing network media players without a computer". http://www.readynas.com/?cat=3 I apologise for my lack of understanding and thank you for your help.

FlowServer is essentially commercial - you get a licence with Pure Flow radios... Works quite well, but doesn't support video as far as I know so I stopped using it.

I think (not definite) that the samsung box doesn't like it if extensions are removed from file names which some media servers seem to do. So far not found a media server that is both very good, and works with the samsung.

When I switch my TV off, the samsung freesat turns to standby (in sync).

But when I switch on my TV, the freesat box doesn't respond and so I have to manually switch it on (via control). It will say freesat HD on the main panel but to actually get a picture I have to press the on button again (twice in all) for it to produce a picture. I have it in power saving mode...could this explain the delay?

I don't think there's a fault. I just want it to be in sync with the TV so when I switch it on the freesat box comes on too. Strangely it has worked a couple of times but I don't what I need to do to keep it that way!

What do I do?!

I called them last week to ask about connecting wirelessly. The chap I spoke to told me that it isn't possible at the moment - the machine only supports wired conection to a hub or router, but a future firmware update will allow wireless connection - presumably using the 'n' wireless dongle that they sell for use with their tv's.
Thanks, yes I contacted Samsung and received the following response

I regret to inform you that at present we do not have a release date for
a wireless LAN adaptor. I apologise for any inconvenience this may
cause.

Pretty poor of them

I wonder how well one of these would work and it may even be possible to power by the USB on the Samsung thus only being on with the unit.

It does come with a power unit BTW.

It's possible that the Samsung Dongle will contain firmware which would mean that the Netgear Adapter will not work. I know that this Adapter will not work on my Sony Blu Ray player.

Another option may be to connect wirelessly via the Ethernet Port either using Homeplugs or an Ethernet Bridge:-

The Netgear device only uses the USB for power and has a standard Ethernet output.

It can use the USB for power to keep your device "green".

Homeplugs normally eat about 4 watts each so a pair will cost you about £9.00 a year.

The provided Netgear power adapter eats 2.1 watts.

The Netgear device once it sees your wireless network should work with most devices and even several if it feeds a small Ethernet switch.

The units web interface looks like this...

Sorry about this, I had wrongly assumed that the Netgear device was a USB dongle. I take your point about the Homeplugs

I still believe that the Buffalo Ethernet Bridge is a viable option as it can already accomodate up to 4 devices e.g.Freesat Box, Blu Ray Player, SMART tv etc. (Although this uses 9 watts of electricity I assume it would only need to be switched on when I am actually streaming content)

On second thoughts how many versions of iplayer do I really need? I can already access iplayer and much more (Lovefilm, Channel 5 On Demand etc) via my Sony Blu Ray player

Thanks for all the suggestions. Has anyone tried these options? Might just bide my time and wait until they decide to release their wireless adapter - whenever that might be????

Hi, I'm new here.

I was recently with the over priced Virgin Media using a HD box with HD recording. I thought it was a good idea to use the existing Satellite dish on the house to purchase Freesat & went with the Samsung as it was a similar option to what we used before. I wanted to be able to record one channels I purchased & installed a new LNB with quad output. I added two cables from the dish to the box but when I try to record one channel & watch another it won't let me. It either just lets me bounce to about two or three similar channels (i.e. ITV3 & ITV3+1) or just says "This service is not available whilst two recordings are in progress". I have check all through the channels & nothing else is recording.

Any help on this matter would be superb, many thanks.

I really should have listened to the earlier warnings on this forum as buying this freesat box has been a huge mistake. Like others the earlier firmware rendered the device utterly unreliable and the remote control it came with was didn't work so I had to get a replacement for that. Even after the firmware it was far from perfect but a couple of weeks ago it developed a new fault where it periodically crashed. This got worse and worse until it stopped working altogether. The item has already been off for repair for a repair and after just speaking to them they tell me the replacement part has only been ordered today. So it's going to be at least another week on top of that. Utterly terrible product. Avoid.

Is this still an issue?

If yes when you press the Info key it should in the top left corner display the channels currently being recorded.

Pressing info a two more times displays the "Tuners Info" showing Tuner 1 then press right arrow to show Tuner 2.

Are you getting signal strength and quality on both of them?

Also, did your box upgrade to the latest firmware during install (takes nearly 30 minutes to download).

This should be version 5.0.300

Hi, I am not sure what part they can be waiting for as I would have thought it would only have one board inside plus a hard drive.

If you can get it back from Samsung I would ask your retailer to replace under "The Sale Of Goods Act".

I have today being installing one for one of my Aunts.

All went well but the remote has the issue that it will no enter TV code learning mode (TV LED does not start to flash).

Samsung said all bad remote's had been replaced.

Called them and they said I would get a callback in under 2 hours.

They did not

Also I would not recommend trying to use this box to line up your dish, the signal level page is far too slow to respond.

Menu, settings, system, reset to defaults.

you'll get all your recording backs but will lose all the programs in your timer set to record, so you'll have t set these up again.

I've had this happen to me a couple of times, pretty annoying, but at least you won't have lost any recordings.

Or you could just wait...

Sometimes they come back all by themselves...

I also had this problem with my last box, didn't know resetting settings would fix the problem and after a couple of weeks of it sometimes working and sometimes not it decided to crash and would never boot up again after that.

Took the box back to Curry's and they happily replaced it. Now I have the same problem again with the new box where it has just started losing the listing in contents. I'll try a reset to factory settings again without delay this time.

I really hope they get a new firmware release out soon that fixes this issue as I have so many timers configured I'd rather not lose. I wonder if the issue is related to having too many recordings in the contents library as I have hundreds of episodes recorded of various children's programs for my son.

As I mentioned earlier I got a second box which has the infamous remote control issue.

Log a support call and this was the response....

Thank you for contacting Samsung.
In relation to the issue you have raised about the remote for your
player as you purchased it less than 28 Days it would be the retailer
which you bought it from who you would have to go to as all products are
covered by the retailer for the first 28 Days.
If you require any further assistance, please contact Samsung again and
we will be more than happy to help.
Kind regards,
Not impressed so have responded...

11. Some batches of remote controls have an issue and won't enter code entry mode.

Samsung: We recognise this issue with the remote controls and have isolated the batches which are faulty. We are checking all remotes coming out of production and will make sure the issue is resolved and does not occur again.

Please send me a replacement remote control.

Many other have had the same issue and I understand you have just sent them a replacement remote.

If I return the whole unit I will likely get another one with a duff remote control due to your companies poor quality control and thus will have the same issue.

Regards
Automan.
