I'm trying to find channels to include, such as Sky News in non-freesat mode.

Can't find an easy way to do this:

1. How do I now which satellites to scan (for a dish previously used for Sky HD)?
2. When a 2nd satellite is scanned, it adds to the existing list with hundreds of channels mostly encrypted - making it difficult to find channels to add to favorites. Is there any way to replace the list instead with the channels found on the 2nd satellite (having first saved any channels needed as favorites)?
3. Is there any way to quickly remove encrypted channels from the All Channels list when in non-freesat mode?
4. Is there any way to completely remove all channels from the list in non-freesat mode (except deleting them all one at a time) - or would this require a full system reset?
5. Is there a better way than auto scan to add just the useful channels, or at least to find the useful channels?

I have been having problems with the front panel display being blank and not showing channel tuned or other information such as booting message. Having now set up a return to Amazon as faulty, they tell me I can only have a refund as they have no stock. Checking the web site shows this message -

"Item Under Review"
"This product is not currently offered by Amazon.co.uk because a customer recently told us that the item he or she received was not as described.

We are working to resolve this as quickly as possible. In the meantime, you may still find this product available from other sellers on this page."

What on earth is going on, anybody know? Meanwhile i have lost my Freesat recorder!

I have seen this before on Amazon even with a DVD disc.

Perhaps a customer got Freeview and Freesat mixed up

Many do...

EDIT:
I also note the last three reviewers gave it one star...

Joinfreesat today referenced a freesat table showing the status of BBC iPlayer and ITV Net Player http://www.freesat.co.uk/what-you-ge...-for-on-demand This shows the status for the Samsung as TBC (not Coming soon or Tick or Cross).

However Samsung's own website shows under features http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/t...0/XEU-features

Supports BBC iPlayer & ITV player

Have you ever missed your favourite soap or Sunday night drama? This is no longer a problem with the Samsung Freesat PVR you catch up on the latest programmes on BBC or ITV with access to the iPlayer.

Not only that but there's also a (hard to remove) sticker on the front of the box saying "ITVplayer coming soon" Its a bit worrying that someone else on here said there will be no more firmware updates to the box. I find that hard to believe, but I will be very annoyed if its true.

I put an enquiry to Samsung to see if they new when an update would be released to fix the 'disappearing library content' problem. There response was:

Thank you for contacting Samsung.
I can fully understand that this is now becoming frustrating and
annoying. Unfortunately we do not know the date of release of updated
firmware as of yet. As soon as this is released by the software
engineers, it will be made available via our website. Each piece of
updated software must go through satisfactory testing before it is
released.
I know that wasnt exactly the news you were hoping for, but we are as
eager as you are to hear of the release date.
My guess would be that they are no where near releasing an update based on the fact that earlier in the year when the failed recordings issue was solved, they gave people dates for the update.
However saying that, they did miss those dates quite a lot so maybe Samsung are refusing to give release dates to prevent people complaining when they miss them.

Smart idea - statistically complaints down - good job done

To add to the air of gloom surrounding the prospect of a corrective maintenance release, I received a similar response from Samsung yesterday (12th October).
Thank you for contacting Samsung and I am sorry to hear that you seem to having some issues with your FreeSat unit. While there are currently no scheduled Firmware updates currently planned we will take note of your comments and forward them to our senior engineer’s, who are continually working on and monitoring all customer feedback with regards to the Freesat’s functionality.
In the meantime I recommend you continue checking the Samsung website www.samsung.com for any information regarding future Firmware updates, as any new Firmware and information is regularly added here. If you require any further assistance, please contact Samsung again and we will be more than happy to help.

Anyone else have this problem - suddenly the guide has some massive gaps in listings, on most channels, and some channels have no listings at all. Sunday afternoon from about 12 until 7.30pm almost nothing is listed in the guide for the main channels. My series link for "Songs of Praise" has not set to record (should be at 5.25pm on Sunday), and its not in the guide so I can't set it manually.

Any advice how I might correct this?

Go to standby for 1 minute, then check again.

My series links had come back, but the above hasn't helped (left it in standby for 3 minutes). Any other ideas?

Is there a system reset (or is that what "reset to defautls" does? Maybe I should switch off / on?

Reset to factory would help for the EPG gaps, but you loose all your schedule. Also ensure you have the latest (5.0.300) software version.

Thanks some of the listings have come back (including Songs of Praise on BBC1 / HD), though many are still missing from for example ITV and Channel 4 / Channel 4 HD.

So I'll take your advice if the problem still persists tomorrow morning - I would have lots of series recordings to set up again. I do have the latest software version installed (that was installed when I first set up my box last week).

Even after a reboot overnight Channel 4 HD listings were still missing (I am on the latest software). As recommended, I reset to factory defaults, that corrected the problem - though of course I had to set all my recordings again.

For me generally the picture seems softer and less vibrant than Sky HD - I upped the sharpness, brightness and especially contrast on my TV and it now sees as good as before. I'm still not certain, but I feel the HD channels are now just as good as before. I wonder if the picture is deliberately toned down to better match the already vibrant output from Samsung LCD TVs.

Good questions apwood - I'm really interested in the answer to these questions too. Can anyone help?

Assuming we are talking about Humax boxes.

First delete all the non-freesat Radio and TV stations. Menu / Edit Channels while in non-freesat mode (You have to do both the Radio and TV seperately).

Using manual tune if you want to scan the lot but exclude encrypted set the Scrambled Type to FTA.

To add individual transponders find the channel you want here

http://en.kingofsat.net/freqs.php?&p...q&filtre=Clear

Where it says transponders all use the arrow key to select the appropriate transponder. If it's a new one not in the list use the blank entry at the end to add a new one.

Not a clue about other makes.

You can filter by FTA. To remove loads of channels at once, then select, then deselect the ones you want to keep.

Does that apply to the Samsung box? If so, how do you filter?

Apologies - I was thinking of the Humax that I had recently.

Hi
I need to get a freesat recorder for my mum's 2nd TV. It is a Loewe Vitros 36", 16.9 Widescreen. It's a CRT type TV. It has Component in and Scart sockets [which support RGB over scart].It is not HD or HD ready.
As the Samsung has scart sockets will it work?

I have seen a post that says the menus or EPG looks a bit fuzzy [assume as these are designed for HD TV's they have to downscale it] BUT is it legible and is the actual picture of the selected channel a good one?

I tried to call Samsung but he said I could chose a 420 or 480 or 720 resolution. I thought UK TV's has a 576i definition, so hence I am a little worried?
Anybody done this any advice would be much appreciated.
