Hi
I need to get a freesat recorder for my mum's 2nd TV. It is a Loewe Vitros 36", 16.9 Widescreen. It's a CRT type TV. It has Component in and Scart sockets [which support RGB over scart].It is not HD or HD ready.
As the Samsung has scart sockets will it work?

I have seen a post that says the menus or EPG looks a bit fuzzy [assume as these are designed for HD TV's they have to downscale it] BUT is it legible and is the actual picture of the selected channel a good one?

I tried to call Samsung but he said I could chose a 420 or 480 or 720 resolution. I thought UK TV's has a 576i definition, so hence I am a little worried?
Anybody done this any advice would be much appreciated.
There's no options for the scart socket it outputs 576i (RGB is best if the TV supports it) . The options only apply to the hdmi output.

Hi Graham
Not sure what you meant. Are you saying it outputs 576i on the Scart Socket [using RGB].
IYO is the EPG picture fuzzy doing this?

Yes to question 1, I don't have a Samsung but all HD and SD boxes (Freeview, Freesat, Sky, Generic fta kit etc). output 576i over scart (the resolution will vary with the channel, BBC 720 x 576, ITV 704 x 576 and the crap ones 544 x 576). Only games consoles like the wii output 480i natively. I can't answer as to the epg but the Foxsat-hdr epg is noticeably worse over a scart connection.

Component can output 1080i but in general Freesat boxes either don't have component or it's crippled for HD transmissions.

Help required please.

My library is showing empty on the box.

If I go in to the settings and look at the disk usage it says the disk is half full.

However the library option shows no recordings.

Anyone know how to get them back to view?

Any help really appreciated.

Two options....
1. Wait, they sometimes come back by themselves.

2. Make a note of all planned future recordings and Menu, Settings, System, Restore To Defaults, then after entering post code etc re-plan your recordings.

Automan.

Thanks mate. The reset worked a treat.

What causes them to go missing or is this just random?

Problem seems random.
Only happened to me once in 3 months...

BTW, Anyone tried 14:9 picture mode for 4:3 programs?

For me it seems to give the same picture as 16:9 centrecut rather than leaving black bars at the side.

Automan.

http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/t...nsumer-reviews

click top right of page "my samsung" ....

you'll need to create an account first THEN you can contact the samsung support team.

As far as I'm aware this is the only way to make contact.

Got the usual standard reply of telling me to update the box to the latest firmware which would solve the disappearing library problem even though i told them that all recordings had been wiped and that the disc capacity showed this. The box was also updated at the time when the latest firmware came out.Lets see if i get another reply.

1. Ensure you have the 5.0.300 software version.
2. http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/t...ask-and-answer - Problem with library list.

Good informative advice from Amorok and is a given that we all must be using the latest Firmware.
However I've been using the "5.0.300" since day of release and last week I lost all my library entries. Following the advice on previous posts this was easily repairs a by a factory reset of the S7800 box. Of course all upcoming timer recordings had to be re-added after reset.
So I feel the latest has NOT fixed this problem which is a real shame because for me this box has been a real SKY+ beater up until this point.
I't my be helpful if you guys on here repost if you have lost your library after the latest 5.0.300 upgrade otherwise it would seem according to the help and answers page Samsung feel the problem has been rectified with the latest firmware.
I really want this sorted as after being a SKY customer for 17 years I would hate to have to go back to them a with my tail between my legs and admit they are the only ones that can provide a service that can at least do the basic service of RECORDING a program and KEEPING it for us ..... at the moment I feel it's a bit of a lottery whether when I come home my recorded program may or not be there for me to watch and this is fundamentally not good enough
Come on Samsung fix it and let me finally recommend you to my friends and family.

I've not actually had the library problem, but clearly quite a few people have. My main issue is over problems with XVID playback. Have you raised the issue with Samsung? I have posted quite a few problems with the box under My Samsung: My Enquiry. They do always answer but I think they need cajoling into putting some resources into developing a corrective release to the firmware for this box.

Several people have had problems with OTA software upgrade (not to the latest version), that's why I mentioned about 5.0.300. I have also had the same library problem and that's why I share how to solve it, because not everyone read >1000 posts to find the workaround.
And yes, I also wait for the new software upgrade, although I have experienced the library issue only once.

i have a problem with this box, not sure if its been touched on as ive not been able to read all the pages on this thread.

whenever i record a bbc or itv channel either by planner or just the record button it also records the same program on the local channels in the 900's channels and therefore i can not change the channel as it comes up saying that 2 recordings are in progress, when i look at the libary after their is just one program.
ive tried recording the program on the 900somthing channel and it automatically recordings the bbc1 or 2 etc etc so i cant get around it.

hope someone can advise me on this as right now it defeats the whole point of a pvr.

thank you

Susan, 2 questions:
1. What software version do you have?
2. Do you have one or two cables installation?

we have
firmware: 0.39/1.43
software: 005.000.0300

and we only have one cable coming into the box from the dish

would be simple if i could delete the local variants of the channels outside my area in the 900's but i cant see a way too.

You have one tuner installation, you can change channels only from the same transponder - your receiver use one tuner only, it's busy with recording, so it just cannot tune to another channel. To get the best from your receiver (record 2 and watch 3rd channel at the same time), upgrade your antenna installation (key words: dual lnb, quad lnb).
BTW, splitter doesn't work.
