Anyone else having this problem?

I emailed Freesat and they replied saying the EPG is working correctly and to call Samsung.

Automan.
Automan, I hadn't noticed it but you're right. The rest of the EPG is populated correctly, but only a couple of days for Channel 4 HD.

I have the same problem. Discovered it when half my series links were missing. Cos the 4hd data is missing. I have set them all on 4sd now. This box is starting to become a dissapointment, and it appears samsung have lost all interest in it.

I have noticed gaps in CH4 HD EPG on my Humax HDR so it may not be a fault with the Samsung.Just thought I'd let you know.

Fully populated on my Foxsat up to next Thursday, but haven't looked until your posting. What time slots are missing data on your hdr ? I might have missed an odd slot

I must admit when I emailed Freesat via their website about the issue I was hoping for a response like this...

"Dear Sir, we have have check the issue on our Samsung Freesat+ boxes and have been able to replicate the issue and have informed the appropriate parties to rectify the problem".

Thank you for contacting freesat. Ticket number 19066 has been answered below:

Your original question is below.

Subject:
EPG On Channel 4 HD

Question:
Hi, can you get those folks at Chn4 to check on the program guide data for Channel 4 HD?
It never seems to populate on my Samsung Freesat+ box only showing the next two programs on.
From other Samsung owners it would seem I am not alone with this problem which started about a week ago...

Automan.

I've now also contacted freesat and cited your ticket number to emphasise it's not just my problem. I'll let you know the response when it arrives.

i noticed that the box still records any previously set data for this program. Its just that they wont show up in the Library while the EPG data is missing.
Theres me ranting on blaming the Samsung when it seems to be the Platform.

Although it still seems Samsung have lost interest in this product. Think of how many they would sell, and what boost it would give to freesat, if Samsung added the Smart TV functionality to this STB.

It seems to remember to wake up for single recordings but not series linked ones.

I suspect because it does not see the series link data.

Mine remembered series link program's. I had set all series links on 4SD cos the Hd series links were missing from the library but when the program was on it was recording both Sd and Hd.

The STB hides any series link planned recording that hasn't got any foreseeable airings, then when it finds an airing it begins to record. I know this because it recently started recording a series which I didn't even realise was on.

Your original question is below.

Subject:
Channel 4 HD EPG Samsung SMT-S7800

Question:
The freesat EPG on the Samsung SMT-S7800 is not fully populating for Channel4 HD, only two days of programmes are shown. This is the only channel affected. Other channels are correct. Other users have reported the same problem - see Ticket number 19066. Can you please check carefully on your SMT-S7800 and contact the broadcaster or manufacturer to resolve the issue.

It was last week, a friend who has a Samsung asked if I was missing CH4 HD on my humax, it was most of Thursday's listings that was missing & was not there until two days later.

Has anyone else experienced lip sync issues using the iPlayer with the SMT-S7800? I reported it to BBC iPlayer feedback and then passed the BBC reply on to Samsung:

BBC Reference CAS-1078358-BLZDNL

The BBC has very strict technical guidelines on lip sync issues across its platforms including iPlayer, with most problems down to receiver issues which is why some manufacturers e.g. Humax, incorporate a feature within the main menu to increase/decrease the lip sync to get it right i.e. to correct what would normally be visible to the human eye and ear.

Some problems can usually be rectified by software upgrades. It's best to keep an eye on the DTG website, who incidentally do most of the testing and advise the manufacturer accordingly:
http://www.dtg.org.uk/industry/dow
Since this is the second SMT-S7800 I've had and both have suffered from lip sync issues with the BBC iPlayer, the Samsung response below seems rather irrelevant:
Thank you for contacting Samsung.
In regards to the next firmware update, We currently have no timeline available to us as to when this will be released. It would be at the discretion of our development team. I would however recommend trying a factory reset, as this tends to solve audio sync issues in general. To do this, Turn the unit off using the manual switch on the back of the unit. Turn it back on after 5 seconds. Once it has finished loading , press the MENU button, select settings, then system, and restore settings to default. Complete the initial setup of the box, and then try iplayer once again. If you require any further assistance, please contact Samsung again and we will be more than happy to help.
Kind regards,
Conall

Just got my S7800, not happy, the interface is slow and glitchy, recording freezes and records the wrong channel, rewinding is horrendous!! Live tv jumps, gay light on the front, no favourite channel guide, thinking of returning the box, sky hd+ was so easy to use!!

Based on my experience, I don't recognise these faults. Maybe you have a faulty box or it's not installed properly or you're on an out of date version of the software?

no favourite channel guide
That is correct. freesat boxes do not have favourites implemented in the electronic programme guide.

Does anyone know the location of the IR reviever? I have an IR repeater with stick on emiters. Usually you can look through the tinted plastic with a strong torch and see the sensor, but this is well hidden

Cut a hole about 0.5" in a piece of card. Use it to find the location by trial and error using the supplied remote.

Thanks for the info on the missing library problem and the C4HD problem. They'd been driving me mad. The reset worked for the moment!

I have raised a support query at Samsung for the issues - hopefully the more people who complain, the more likely they are to fix it. BTW I've been upgraded to the latest firmware since August.

Thanks,
eljay

"..apparently is a BBC issue.. "

A euphemism of course..Actually I guess that Samsung told they are not up to scratch..
In the old days.. when Standards meant something.. the BBC and the Post Office and the like were accepted by the world as having integrity..and it helped exports too.
A quirk of pressures of commercialism is that the BBC can now dictate who they let use their Iplayer and they are fussy as ITV have been .
However..
I enjoy the design of the ITV player best of the two on my Humax..

Just lately I have noticed that the EPG has been Patchy. Certain channels on days in the future have no info.
Its very unpredictable. For example info for C4 tomorrow may be missing but shows up on day after, but BBC2 may be ok tomorrow but missing day after.

Has anyone else had this?

When I contacted freesat about the missing 4HD guide data, they said its probably down to my dish alignment. I couldnt see how but now I am starting to wonder if it may be.

I notice on some channels (mainly hd channels or the CBS channels) that tuner 2 has low quality. Is this normal?

Unlikely to be lots of people's dished suddenly becoming misaligned. We have near perfect signal and are seeing issues - especially on 4HD...

I was interested in buying this Samsung model but after reading this marathon thread I don't think that I will bother!
I was a little puzzled as to why newish models were appearing on eBay,one only used for a week with a genuine reason for sale!No prizes for the real reason.
Anyway,a big thankyou to all that have contributed especially Automan who deserves a medal for the hours put into testing and answering all the queries, etc.
I'm sure that others have made the same decision as myself and this thread again warns of the pitfalls of buying new products before they are really sorted out. There are too many companies that use buyers as their free test agents and their brand names no longer carry the weight that they once did.
