I'm happy I managed to buy one. I've also called Sky to cancel. Love it.
![]() Having seen that this was going to be a Black Friday offer in this thread (thanks for the heads up Automan) I browsed to Amazon at about 12.50 and waited for it to appear. When it said it was active I tried in vain to add one to my Basket, clicking on the link simply took me to the standard Amazon page for the Samsung SMT-S7800 at the usual price except that instead of the add to basket link there was one that informed me that it was a Black Friday offer. Clicking on this link simply took me back to the Black Friday offers page from where I had to find the offer again where the only option was to click on the link ... and round and round again ![]() After half an hour of occasionally attempting this in 2 different browsers in desperation I emailed Amazon as at this time there where still some units left. Eventually after the offer had been up over 45 minutes the wish list icon came active so I clicked on that, however as one never came available I do not know whether I would have then been able to order one! about an hour later I went back to the Black Friday pages and now I was able to correctly add items into my basket and watch the 15 minute countdown !! I did get an email response from Amazon and actually got to talk on the phone to a Customer Service Rep who listened patiently but said that there must have been a server problem and that there was nothing that could be done after the event, but they would pass on my reported problem. So my first attempt to buy something on Black Friday was my first experience of bad service from Amazon is this typical ? |

Automan,
Thanks for replying. Connected to a Samsung 3d plasma via hdmi. Connected to amp via optical. TV in standby, not on though. I hadn't considered the tv could be causing this. Will put the box in standby without being connected to the tv to see if that results in it behaving. Cheers |

Have now tried without the hdmi connected and it's still playing silly devils.
Have been on the phone to John Lewis this morning and because this was a price match nothing can be done on the weekend. Will attempt to get an exchange next week. Cheers |

Just got a call from one of my Aunt's who I got one for... Guess what? Yes all her recordings have vanished ![]() It is about time Samsung fixed the last remaining bugs let alone worrying about their "development team" adding new ones. EDIT: Emailed support... Quote:
The last update for this product was back in July. Automan.
When are you going to issue a fix for the remaining or new bugs added by that upgrade? 1. All recordings vanish from library. (priority) 2. BBC iplayer sound video synch. 3. Series link recordings are erratically numbered 4. Screen saver will cut in every five minutes during a recording playback if you load the library from a radio channel. 5. If you playback a recording still being made and stop playback the resume information is not saved but the unwatched/new status is cleared. Both of my boxes have these issues and are fed from different dishes and reading online reviews others also experience the same issues. Regards |

I've got favourite channels set up however unlike Sky pressing blue twice and then continuing to do so doesn't navigate through them and they can't be viewed on the guide either it seems.
Can either action be performed? Also when resuming live pause there's nothing on screen to state the duration you are behind the live broadcast. Is this freesat's design or box specific? I've also contacted Samsung about the bugs you mentioned above Automan as well as suggesting 7 day search, implementing the features available on other boxes (such as finding replay of programme when clash occurs etc) mentioned in my earlier post, implementing wi-fi adaptor functionality and enabling access to the epg/guide when playing a recorded show. (basic functionality I stated that should be present) I'll post the responses once I recieve them. |

On a foxsat-hdr the favourites situation is the same, the epg does not follow favourites.
Resuming after pause displays a timeline indicating where you are and how far behind real time you are. So clearly in this case a box issue. |

Thanks, I've contacted Samsung about it and suggested that it the remaining time display be implemented. Regarding the bugs Automan mentioned above I copied and pasted them in my message to Samsung even though I haven't come across them (I will be able to use iPlayer when I've moved the box and connect it via ethernet so can't even determine if the iPlayer bug is present) I got the following reply: Quote:
For the issues around the freesat box (not the BBC app) please follow Regarding my messages to Samsung suggesting implementing the features mentioned in my previous post I have received the same response to all the messages I sent which is:the instructions below to rectify those issues; Turn the unit off from the mains by turning off by the switch on the back of the unit. Leave the unit off for 10 mins, then turn on and the unit and it will reboot. This will take 20-25 seconds to do. press the MENU button on the remote. Select the SETTINGS menu. Select SYSTEM Select RESTORE TO DEFAULTS Enter your PIN, if you have not set one, the default is 0000. This will reset the box to the initial settings. The box will restart and present you with the initial setup screen. Complete the steps onscreen and you will have finished the reset procedure. Iplayer issues; We recognize that our customers are having issues with BBC iplayer and also lovefilm at present. Unfortunately it is up to the app developers in question to maintain compatibility with Samsung Products. I am certain they are tackling the issue at present, and as soon as these issues have been resolved and tested, a firmware update containing the relevant fixes will be made available via the firmware upgrade option on your TV set, and also on the Samsung website. I would recommend checking for updates every week or so. This can be done by pressing MENU=> SUPPORT => SOFTWARE UPGRADE, and selecting BY ONLINE. (Requires active internet connection) Thank you for contacting Samsung. Please provide further details as we cannot ascertain the full details of your inquiry from the email you sent. Kind regards, Quote:
At present there have been no plans to release these features. I will I've also read a comment in today's post on joinfreesat that this Samsung Boxforward your suggestions onto the relevant department to be looked at. Any updates to the system will be done via a firmware upgrade and you can use the steps below to keep checking for an update. I would recommend checking for updates every week or so. This can be done by pressing MENU=> SUPPORT => SOFTWARE UPGRADE, and selecting BY ONLINE. (Requires active internet connection) Thank you for contacting Samsung. Anyone know the kit I would need to enable me to pick up F1 next year on my SMT-S7800?
(by kit, I don't mean a sky box and lots of ££££) I don't mind manually switching LNB using a switchbox or something.. Do I just need a bigger dish and some "cranked" LNB arm? Can someone point me to some bits and bobs on ebay. Thanks. |

My box has crashed for the first time ever!
This morning I noted the display said 01:51 with the timer icon above the zero. The blue light was on as normal. Had to power cycle it to get it to work again... Perhaps a Lovefilm issue ![]() Automan. |

Does anyone have any reasonable small AVI files to hand that I could give to samsung that exhibit the media player lip sync issue? The steps I've given them to reproduce - they say don't happen (which I guess is feasible).
I've done a small news clip pulled from web iPlayer and converted to AVI but it seems ok - so not much use ![]() Other that it must be my box needing repair.... |

is it me or have the options to download firmware on the samsung site been removed?
Does this mean, new firmware is imminent or that they have stopped supporting this model. Or am i just looking into it too much :P |

I've finally got around to hooking up my S7800 to my home network. Almost everything works fine and I can see my shared local media, iPlayer works OK, and Youtube vids work OK, BUT, I seem to be unable to actually sign on to Youtube. I've checked that I'm entering the correct userID and password but I just keep getting the following message: Failed [Network communication Error] but the message seems to come back too quickly (2-3 seconds) as if it's not actually going anywhere. When I sign on to Youtube via web browser the delay before anything happens is about twice as long.
Anyone got any ideas? Thanks... Mark. |

Yes, you are correct it no longer works ![]() I bet YouTube have changed something on their security settings making it no longer compatible. My LG TV however still logs in okay. Automan. Quote:

I won't hold my breath for it getting fixed - unless of course it's cock-upon on the part of Youtube and other manufacturers kit is affected. Cheers, Mark. |

Screen Saver Bug...
I have had this problem again where the screen saver cuts in every five minutes playing back a recording ![]() I think I have found out how to replicate this should someone wish to confirm. 1. Select a radio channel e.g. 705 and listen to it. 2. Press library and select a recording and play it back. Does the screen saver cut in every five minutes? Automan. Did anyone find a workaround for this?
