HDD Upgrade success
Hi
I just successfully did a HDD upgrade for my box ! Screenshot I tried it few weeks ago with a 1Tb brand new disk, but it turned out the HDD was defective. So, after getting the HDD replaced by Seagate I tried it again today. It is as easy as replacing the disk, you don't need to do anything else. You will obviously loose all your recordings from the old HDD, but not the schedule recordings. It looks like they are not stored on the HDD. The original disk in the box is Seagate and so it happen that my 1Tb disk is Seagate as well. I haven't tried it with another make. The file system on the disk is Linux EXT2. I don't know what format are the recordings, but I didn't manage to play them with anything. To get to the HDD is a bit fiddly, but not impossible without breaking anything; you have to remove the card socket plastic guide before you can remove the case. Good luck, if anybody else wants to try it. |

Got one of these as need to get rid of Sky+HD
Nice looking box, good(ish) user interface. But like all these things, there are just some niggles! Anyone know if Sammy are still supporting this? would be great if they are, I guess Humax are the same? Back to niggles: 1st up that bloody blue light! wish there was an option to kill it, why Samsung WHY? and why must it be on when the machine is in standby? I know where it is ffs! No options to view guide, library whilst playing something. Bit complicated to get to a shared drive, surprised there isnt a shortcut or something. And during today's testing, it crashed a number of times after running a few short clips. Any one else? I remember the GREAT digifusion box, there was a community that managed to crack and produce new things for it, anything similar for this? |

I've got favourite channels set up however unlike Sky pressing blue twice and then continuing to do so doesn't navigate through them and they can't be viewed on the guide either it seems.

On a foxsat-hdr the favourites situation is the same, the epg does not follow favourites.

I've abandoned networking on the SMT-S7800 as it's such an unreliable XVID player and there doesn't seem to be any indication that a Samsung fix is imminent.
I'm probably tempting providence saying it, but my SMT-S7800 has never experienced the empty library issue that has plagued so many other users. |

as asked would be nice if samsung could show that they have a list of bugs and are working on fixing, or are they focussing on some other product abandoning this one...
(it always seems silly that for a couple of bug fixes and some more content this could be amazing!) |

I had, what I consider a major, problem 2 nights ago. I was watching a recording from the box. Part way through it started recording another program in the background. Then I tried skipping through adverts whilst watching my programme and the box became slow to respond. At first i though the batteries in the remote were getting low, but I then tried controlling the TV and it worked instantly.
Due to my frustration, a back log of commands from the remote were carried out which exited the program and went back to live tv. SO i resumed the recording I was watching, and noticed that the timeline banner didnt dissappear. I tried pressing info but nothing happened. So I tried several other commands and nothing happened. The program was plauying fine but the banner was stuck, the timeline didnt change and the box wasnt responding. I thought with the box recording I best leave it to play through the programme and wait until the end to turn it off at the mains. When I turned it back on, it had rescheduled the recording that was supposed to have happened when I was watching the recording. It looks like the box had completely locked up and couldnt record. I thought I had a similar problem again last night. I was watching a recording when all of a sudden the box was slow to respond (nothing was being recorded this time though). But after a few seconds all the commands went through. Seems a bit odd and worrying as this is the time of the year when it will be used the most. |

And it's done it again tonight! 1 programme recording (on NBC 1hd). Try and watch a record programme. The box didn't play the recording do I pressed exit. After 2 minutes I end up on live tv. Now and next banner stuck on with current programme playing behind it but no sound. Not sure if what I am recording will save properly or not.
I have not been annoyed to much before with all the little niggles but this is stupid. Can't watch programmes I want to. To me it is as bad as the original problem of not being able to record. Humax might be getting my custom. Or even god forbid, sky! |

Hi all,
We got a S7800 from Currys (store assistant told me they were on clearance!) on getting home, connecting up, updating software etc all went well. After an hour or so of using it, we noticed every now and then, a brief white flash with a very sudden glitch / pause. Sometimes the white is half screen, or a thin horizontal band, and there's also a click type sound. It doesn't seem to be consistant, havn't really had the box long enough to figure out when / why it's doing it..... Just wondered if anyone else on here had the same problem or not..... Cheers, JD |

Cheers, JD The tuners on this box are not as sensitive as those on the Humax box. When watching live tv if you press 'info' three times it will show the tuners Tuner 1 I have 92% strength 70% quality Tuner 2 68% 70% Automan. |

Ours is always locking up generally when playing a recorded program when recording more than one hd program. Generally locks for up to 30 seconds I reckon and recordings mess up a bit - get corrupt or skip a few seconds - at that point. Seems to be getting worse as the drive fills up or maybe just time of year recording more!
Saying that is still more reliable than our old Thomson sky hd box was! |

The problem is it is of responding at all. So I have to turn it off at the mains. I dont think Samsung are going to bother with this box any more. Problem is there are not many other boxes available on the freesat platform that offer the same as the Samsung.

Update on the flashing / pausing problem - thanks Automan - I checked the tuner stuff, saying signal strength is around 50%. Quality is around 70% though. I think problem is worse when unit is just switched on and gets better after a few hours on. Also seems worse on HD channels. Like I said thought on half this for a few days so not really had enough use out of it to get a good idea of when / why the problem occurs...... JD

I don't think so. What about "ITV player coming soon"? And I don't think samsung will not fix at least the vanishing-library-content problem. It's just too heavy.

Hi, Regarding http://www.itv.com/help/itvplayervid...s/default.html the Samsung+HD Freesat STB isn't part of the list. When viewing channel 903 on my Samsung Freesat+HD box a message states that this device isn't supported and to visit itv.com/itvplayer/freesat for more information. However on the freesat website the Samsung has a status of "TBC" for ITV Player compatibility. http://www.freesat.co.uk/what-you-ge...-for-on-demand yet a sticker on the front of the STB states that ITV Player as "coming soon". Is there an update on if/when ITV Player will be available on the Samsung STB? Thank you Regards Quote:
Hello,
At present only customers with a Humax HD or HD+ box will find the ITV player on channel 903. We will be rolling out the ITV Player to more Freesat devices in the future. Unfortunately we have no confirmed date for this. Please keep an eye on our Freesat FAQ web page for further information using the following link: http://www.itv.com/help/itvplayervideohelp/freesatfaqs/ Regards |

Lock/Protect record?
This might sound like an incredibly silly question, but here goes anyway.....
![]() What do the Lock and Protect options in the library actually do? All I can find in the manual is how to Lock and/or Protect a recording, but not what it actually means? Thanks in advance

Has anyone got any posetive feedback about this S7800.
My EPG is empty when looking 5 hours in advance, let alone 24hours! It has missed recordings. Sometimes slow to respond Really had high hopes for this box, however not sure I can live with the glitches! I keep scanning for software updates but I think Samsung has left us in the dark about this one! I may return it and go for the Humax.... |
