Looks like the next update is due in May!
http://skp.samsungcsportal.com/integ...=uk&seq=404129 Automan. Or that they have been working on major feature improvements for the box. Im glad to see that Samsung havent given up on us and I just hope the response you got Automan was not from a mis-informed customer service rep. |

I wonder if this has anything to do with the G2 spec?

The update info is from their website under FAQ's for the product rather than from a service rep. Perhaps a dig at Freesat is in hand? Automan. |

I emailed Samsung to ask them about what they are doing about the lip-synch problem with BBC iPlayer.
Here's their response; I am sorry to hear you are having trouble with your BBC iPlayer FreeSat service. The BBC are aware of the issue regarding audio synchronisation with the FreeSat iPlayer service and are working towards a solution. Your Samsung FreeSat box is only the medium of display for the iPlayer service. The FreeSat iPlayer service functions differently from that of the online and Smart television equivalents. This is why other versions of iPlayer function correctly. I am sorry I couldn't be of more help. Doesn't explain why it works fine on the Humax FoxSat. |

If I get this box, can the remote be programmed to operate a Panasonic TX-L42E30B TV? |

Gem123,
I got this unit last week and am generally very happy with it. It should work with 1 lnb. If I recall you are offered the option of 1 or 2 lnb leads when going through the set-up wizard. I played material from a USB last night and it was excellent quality. Much better than over a DNLA network. However, I did notice that during the course of the programme lip-synch was just ever so slightly out. Is this an issue just with this unit or playing from USBs generally? Also, I played a recording from a HD channel and the lip synch was seconds. I paused, resumed and it was OK. It is an issue with HD channels due to the different sound mix they have as I have no such problems with SD channel recordings? |

Will this STB work with a non-widescreen TV? ie. will the menu system display OK, without truncation, on a 4:3 aspect ratio TV?
Amazingly, I still have a 20 year old B&O TV that I'm not quite yet ready to scap, but am interested in swapping out an old Sky box for a Freesat PVR, and am wondering if the Samsung has a "picture format" setting similar to the Sky box's, so it can work with antique TVs. |

I was hoping it'd have a setting like that. I've now just had a look at the manual online, and I see it has a Screen Ratio setting, so maybe one of these is 4:3? Anyone able to confirm?
Also, my initial dish setup will be single cable, which in time I'm intending to change to a two cable setup via installation of a Stacker/De-Stacker. I'm assuming the box's "Antenna setup" setting can simply be switched over to "two cables" when I eventually get the Stacker installed. Is the Samsung STB OK using a Stacker/De-Stacker for a two cable input? The local satellite installation guy I spoke to mentioned using these:- http://multimediasystems.co.uk/acata...ACKER_D35.html Thanks for your help. |

Hi
I just rang up richer sounds to order one of these, and the guy told me that its only one of the lnb feeds that is connected to the recorder - ie, you can record one channel and watch another but you cant record two channels at once. Is this true because I've read loads on this box before deciding to return my humax box and get it instead (two failures inside 6 months on the humax for me) and that was the first I heard of it. Someone please confirm who has one, I know it says on the Samsung site that you can record two and watch a recorded program at the same time but they might be making it up

Any box should work with a stacker/destacker because it sees normal lnb connections. Good quality cable is required because the 2nd lnb connections are stacked at a higher frequency on the same cable by the stacker unit and downshifted to normal in the destacker.
This may be a problem for me as the cable is pretty old, and the reason for considering the Stacker option in the first place was because of awkward cable routing (underground) meaning running a 2nd cable (if using dual LNBs) was always going to be difficult. |

![]() "Twin Tuner (Watch 1 channel and record another) Fed up of having limited choice when you want to record a programme? With Samsung this is no longer a problem. Due to the built-in twin tuner, you can now record one channel and watch another at the same time. Samsung offers choice and flexibility to suit your needs." |

mred2000, do you have personal experience of that being the case though? I really want a samsung box owner to confirm one way or the other. thank you for the help though.
I just rang Comet and asked them, they say you can record two programmes at once. Also the richer sounds bloke told me Sony make a freesat+ box, which they dont (not that I can find anyway) so I just dont know what to beleive. |

The manual states clearly that you can record 2 programmes at once: page 35: "You can simultaneously record 2 programmes"
It also says: page 35: "Watching a 3rd channel - When 2 recordings are in progress from the 2 different transport streams you can watch another programme from them." I'm not quite sure how that would work, with there being 2 tuners... Manual download:- http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/co...110609_CMS.pdf |

I'm becoming an expert on this manual....
1. I can see that the aspect ratio can be toggled between 16:9 and 4:3 within "Settings->Picture->TV screen ratio", so that answers one of my questions above. 2. Re changing the "Antenna setup" from "SAT IN 1" to "Two cables":- the manual doesn't show this as being changeable within the Settings menu. Therefore, is the Installation Wizard the only possible time you can enter this setting? If so, does that mean some form of factory reset is required in order to switch from one to two cable input? Seems a bit harsh if that's the case! Thanks. |

Unlike the foxsat the Samsung has no way to feed the second tuner with only a single cable feed, nor the capability for the software to recognise what's possible dual recording wise with only one lnb.
If the tuners on the Samsung have the same capability as the Humax box only way to record two (or record 1 and watch another) is if they can demux two channels at the same time and they have to be on the same transponder. The Foxsat is a lot more versatile than this. If you can only ever get a single cable the Foxsat-hdr is the only one to go for. |

Manual download:- http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/co...110609_CMS.pdf If recording two from same transponder (only one tuner is needed) any third channel can be viewed (and probably time shifted). If recording two from different transponders any channel sharing a transponder with either recording can be viewed while recording two. Simple test, start recordings on BBC-HD and BBC1-HD. Any other channel should be viewable (try pausing the third channel) |

Post was aimed at the poster considering a stacker/destacker and others querying what you can do with only 1 cable and lnb.
So that's got me looking at this site, to see if I can figure out which channels are on the same transponder as each other:- http://en.kingofsat.net/freqs.php?&p...q&filtre=Clear Am I right in thinking that this page is showing channels grouped by transponder (e.g. the first group is 10714, containing Channel 4, Film4, Film4+1 & More4+1; the 2nd group being 10729 and containing E4+1, E4, C4+1 & More4, etc)? Thanks. |

So, if I could put up with (at least for a while) only being able to record & simultaneously watch channels that are on the same transponder, I could save myself a wodge of cash by going for a Humax Foxsat instead?

Thanks. For instance if you use a Northern postcode to get ITV1-HD Granada you can record any two of the HD channels and watch a third.
